Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 1, 2003 (edited) www.whedonesque.com has a link to the supposed full first act of the premiere episode script. General consensus over there is that it's not real, and judging by the brief excerpts I've seen, I tend to agree. And that post not showing up thing is so odd. Freakish. Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 2, 2003 The old rumor--not sure if there's any merit to it--was that Whistler was supposed to fulfill Doyle's function on Angel, but that Max Perlich was interested in the offer. Interesting little tidbit my sister pointed out to me a few weeks ago about Max. His name, along with Tony's (of course), was included in the cast listing for Ripper over at IMDB. I know that site is far from being reliable, but I found it kind of weird he would be listed. I just did a search but Ripper no longer ever exists in the database, so who knows. Why did they get rid of him? There was quite a bit of heat surrounding that. One of the main rumors was that the WB was sold on the show, except that they wanted Glenn off of it (similar to how they objected to the original Willow in the Buffy pilot). Joss has always said this was not the case though, and that he had the Doyle storyarc planned from the beginning. Spoilers regarding that... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): He said that he killed him off because he wanted to drive home the fact that anything could happen at anytime, and how precious life truly is. Guest Mole Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Hmm, that makes sense. It is something Joss has proven many times. Cavi, that banner is AWESOME. I love it.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Almost cooler than mine... I was bored, so I watched "Innocence." It is just a touching episode and it makes you really feel for Buffy.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted June 2, 2003 Cavi...Niiiiiiiiiice. THat's your best one yet
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 2, 2003 I watched "Innocence" yesterday with the Joss commentary. Funny and delightful stuff. The Buffy commentaries are a mixed bag--this one, for example, and the one Doug Petrie does for "Bad Girls" are superb. But then there are some really dull ones, like on "Consequences"...yick. Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Joss does a commentary for "Innocence?" Damn!
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Yes, I recommend it highly. You can really sense the appreciation he has for the show, and he's wonderful at undercutting huge moments of drama by saying "And Tony Head's not wearing pants right now, by the way." Can't wait to hear his commentary on "Hush" and "Restless." That's one thing I wish the Buffy DVDs had in greater quantity. The featurettes on the season, the monsters, and everything like that are all great, but I could use more commentaries. The Season 4 set looks like it's going to have maybe 6 or 7, though, and all on good episodes, so that should be a welcome change...
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 "Hush" BETTER have a commentary.
Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Can't wait to hear his commentary on "Hush" and "Restless." I've watched "Restless" on my UK DVD. The commentary is good. Quite cool to hear about what influenced him in regards to particular scenes.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Do you have a region free DVD player Cavi? If so, what kind do you have and how much did it cost? I want to get one sometime in the fall, when I get some extra cash. EDIT: I noticed I passed Youth for the most posts in this thread. You disappoint me Youth... Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 3, 2003 "Hush" does, Mole. All the specs I've seen have stated that it will. "Wild At Heart" is going to be another great one to hear about. Pretty cool that they actually got Seth Green for it as well.
Guest fazzle Report post Posted June 3, 2003 That'll be weird to have Hush with commentary. It'll have like twice as much speaking as the actual episode. On a side note: Damn, it's been too long since I've posted in this thread.

Pretty cool that they actually got Seth Green for it as well. I haven't seen "Wild at Heart" so that should be good. I know fazzle, the thread hasn't been the same. Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Do you have a region free DVD player Cavi? If so, what kind do you have and how much did it cost? I want to get one sometime in the fall, when I get some extra cash. Yeah, I do. I have the Daewoo DVG-3000N. Got it for around $100.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Damn, that's pretty good. So do you have seaons 1-6 on DVD for Buffy?
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 I watched the commentary for "Bad Girls" and Douglas Petrie did a great job. He actually knew what he was talking about, one of the better commentaries on Buffy. On the other hand, I'm watching "Earshot" now and Jane Espenson does a TERRIBLE job. She doesn't know which season "Band Candy" is in, and she wrote it! She makes a few other mistakes and just tells us what is going on. If we want to know what is going on, we'll just watch the episode itself.
Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 3, 2003 So do you have seaons 1-6 on DVD for Buffy? Indeed I do. Same with the first three Angel sets, as well.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Lucky bastard. When I was in Ireland, I noticed that cost more money, is that true?
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 3, 2003 Another thought, FUCK UPN! They are showing American's Top Model, again. No one watches it UPN, so get over it!!
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 4, 2003 My third post in a row because I have some stuff to say. Anyway, I watched "Welcome to the Hellmouth" and "Harvest" tonight with Joss's commentary, and it was quite interesting. What other commentaries are good ones? Not shitty ones like "Earshot." Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted June 4, 2003 Avoid Michael Gershman on "Consequences." He's the director, and while it's neat to hear that perspective, it gets dull very quickly when you realize it's the writers that drove this show. I actually haven't listened to most of the commentaries, though I imagine David Fury on "Helpless" might be fun.
Guest Mole Report post Posted June 4, 2003 I didn't like that episode much, so I'll save it if I'm really bored. I'm watching "City Of" from Angel with the commentary from Joss and David.
Guest BorneAgain Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I just saw Restless for the first time in a while and man its still one of my favorites. Besides an appearance by the first Slayer I've had so many dreams that resemble the ones in the episode. Oh, and I still mark for the sliced cheese guy. Guest Mole Report post Posted June 5, 2003 I watched it too, and it is an awesome episode. I can't wait for Joss's commentary on it and "Hush." I also watched "Innocence" with Joss' comentary today, and Joss has the best commentary out of everyone for the show. He gives the best insight, which makes sense because it is his show. Marti Noxon does a pretty good job too. Man, I need to get out of the house.
Guest Cavi Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Oh, and I still mark for the sliced cheese guy. His two split second shots in "Storyteller" from this past season were a nice touch.
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted June 5, 2003 Wow, I haven't posted in here for a while. Anyways, I have a question for you guys. Someone told me that, if Buffy was going to end in Season 5, the season finale would have been like this: Season 5 Spoilers: Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Buffy would have permanently died, Willow would have done her Evil Willow schtik and died, Glory would jump into Xander and Giles would smother him instead of Ben, and Sunnydale would have imploded (a la season 7). Any of this known to be true? Would it have been better to end the show then in that manner?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 5, 2003 But that ending didn't have the ending that this seasons had with Dawn and Rona dying. Cause Dawn and Rona died, ya know? They did. THEY DID. ...Greatest ending ever. (Those spoilers sound too gloomy to be true)
