DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 On WOL, Konnan mentioned that he taught Bret Hart the Sharpshooter when he was there as Max Moon. Unless Bret Hart is a time traveller, this makes little sense considering he used it prior to 1992 (SummerSlam 91 off the top of my head as a show where it was used a finisher). However Meltzer agreed with Konnan and cited it as a story not many people know. Is Dave just being polite or is he as confused as Konnan? Or am I the one that's wrong? King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 What was the deal with the 'car chase' at Wrestlemania 12 with Goldust and Piper. The references went over my British head, but it was re-used footage, right? Also, was it true Backlund only won the belt at Survivor Series because a similiar 'veteran legend shocks the world and wins the title' story has occured in boxing and McMahon was trying to re-create it, WWF style? The only reason Bret dropped the belt was because he wanted some time off. It did help that George Foreman recently regained the heavyweight title; it gave Vince something to talk about when it came to selling Bret / Backlund. I actually e-mailed Meltzer (prior to HTQ's answer to my question) after the show to get some more info about Konnan's story... he said Konnan just told it wrong on the air. Whose initials are those? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think its the brand name, since IIRC his boots at the time also had the same intials on them. and "the kliq" was shawns name for his fans in 96, "the clique" was hbk/nash, hall, hhh, waltman. BUTT 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Who was Ric Flair's valet/"maid", Fifi, in 1993? She doesn't appear to have done anything else in wrestling since then, so I'm guessing she was just a model they hired.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Another question: when did Brutus Beefcake start cutting hair? I noticed on obsessedwithwrestling.com, there is a picture of him with Valentine, when they were teaming (so it was obviously before he turned face) and he is holding the hedge clippers. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Another question: when did Brutus Beefcake start cutting hair? I noticed on obsessedwithwrestling.com, there is a picture of him with Valentine, when they were teaming (so it was obviously before he turned face) and he is holding the hedge clippers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was early 1987. The barber gimmick took on full steam after a six man tag team match with Beefcake/Valentine/Adonis (i think). Late in the match a groggy Beefcake was whipped into his own corner and Adonis, ever the fat retard (God bless him), thought he was the opponent and, never bothering to take his eyes off the audience, cut some of Beefcakes hair. This led to Wrestlemania 3 somehow where Beefcake left the Dream Team and interfered in the Piper-Adonis hair match. After Pipers sleeperhold win Beefcake shaved Adrians head and kept the gimmick for the next few years. At least, I think this is what happened. Im going by memory alone here, Ive been awake for at least 20 hours on self-prescribed painkillers, so I might just be hallucinating history again.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 At WM 3, The Dream Team beat The Rougeus after Dino Bravo interfered, however right before the finish, Beefcake accidentally hit Greg. After the match, Valentine, Johnny V and Bravo left Beefcake in the ring alone, I guess they were pissed he hit greg. Later on During Piper vs Adonis, Adrian had Piper out with his sleeper, but let go before the arm dropped the third time and stupidly tried to cut his hair during the match, but Beefcake ran in and woke up Piper, who put Adonis in a sleeper and won. Beefcake helped Piper cut off Adonis' hair, and after the show Beefacke got the nickname of The Barber (I dont know all of these details cuz I wasnt even watching wrestling at this time)
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2005 Didn't the Xpress turn face due to fueding with Tully/Arn? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sure that played a part, depending on the city. I just recently saw a fancam of their title win in Philadelphia and that crowd popped huge for the finish. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cornette put that huge pop down to the fact that the fans sensed that the title change wasn't supposed to happen - which it wasn't untill Arn and Tully told JCP that they were joining the WWF prior to the match. From that match onwards they were always faces in Philadelphia as the fans knew that'd got something special from them.
Tony149 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2005 (edited) Why did the NWA balk at Rick Rude winning the NWA Title from Flair at Fall Brawl? Was it something against Rude or did they just want to keep the belt on Flair? Or some other factor? Edited July 16, 2005 by Tony149
Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 What was the story behind Savage and Elizabeth teaming back up in the nWo, and how was it played out on TV?
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 What was the story behind Savage and Elizabeth teaming back up in the nWo, and how was it played out on TV? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't recall there being a story. It was just 1) Hogan / Savage feud, 2) Savage is gone 5 months, 3) he comes back and randomly helps Hogan beat Piper.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 Actually Liz joined up with nWo for protection or something I forget why., she din't want to be there though, she always looked sad. But when Savage joined, she was happy again and managed him.
Mr. S£im Citrus 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 .... That's interesting... was there ever any public/on-air comment about the extent of their post-marriage relationship? Did they actually get along off-camera?
The Decemberists 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2005 Why did the NWA balk at Rick Rude winning the NWA Title from Flair at Fall Brawl? Was it something against Rude or did they just want to keep the belt on Flair? Or some other factor? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The NWA had no problem with Rude being the Champ, what they had the problem with was that WCW didn't bother to tell them it was going to happen. This was when title changes still had to be voted on by the board of directors, even though this was by then little more than a formallity, but in protest of WCW not asking about the change they refused to allow it. The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Here's a question... What was the original purpose of the camera crew following Bret Hart around before SurSer 97? Of course, we all know that the footage ended up being used for "Wrestling With Shadows", but the crew could not have known about the screwjob beforehand (CONSPIRACY~!), so what were they doing? snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I figured they were jsut filming a doc on Bret Hart... Strange that Vince would allow it on such an important evening though.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 The camera crew were just doing a documentary on Bret. They weren't even originally set to be there, but once Bret decided he was leaving the WWF, it was decided to keep them on to document Bret's last days with the company. As for why Vince allowed it, he was still #2 at the time, and when you're in second place, you become more friendly to people who, in your mind, can do something to help you get back to #1. Fökai 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Actually Liz joined up with nWo for protection or something I forget why., she din't want to be there though, she always looked sad. But when Savage joined, she was happy again and managed him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> She joined the nWo so that they wouldn't attack Randy anymore. Savage, like a total idiot, would attack them for weeks on end and just get murdered by the entire stable. This even carried on to the pay-per-views (Fall Brawl 1996, after the Wargames match). Liz joined shortly afterward, essentially the same time as the Nasty Boys "joined", after a series of LONG 'nWo propaganda' vignettes over the course of a Nitro episode, where it was basically taped footage of the nWo celebrating in a nearby hotel room by the arena. Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I remember that for Knobbs standing on a table, and pulling apart his asscheeks, saying he was impersonating Eric Bischoff. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Im watching the Greatest Stars of the 80s dvd and wondering...why was Junk Yard Dog never given a title run in the WWF? He clearly wasnt much of a worker but he was pretty over with the audience. Was there some sort of reason why he never got an IC or tag title run? (Wrestling Classic tourny win doesnt count)

He clearly wasnt much of a worker but he was pretty over with the audience. Was there some sort of reason why he never got an IC or tag title run? (Wrestling Classic tourny win doesnt count) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even before going into the WWF, he was heavily into cocaine. In Mid-South, Bill Watts had to start booking him in short, five-minute matches because of it, as JYD was in such bad shape. Once he came to the WWF, it got worse, and he was never considered reliable enough to give any kind of real push to. He even did the virtually clean job to Harley Race at WM III, which he for sure wouldn't have done had he been in any kind of decent shape, both mentally and physically. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I kinda thought it was the coke thing... Im guessing thats the reason his face/nose seemed so fucked at his Wrestlepalooza 98 appearance as well.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Not really old school, but what was Kevin Nash's last appearance in WWE? I want to say the Elimination Chamber at Summerslam 03, but I'm not sure. Yeah, that was the last appearance of Nash, in-ring or otherwise. -------- Here's a question I've been meaning to ask: there was this Sting tribute video that's been circulating around the IWC since WCW folded. In one of the scenes, Crow Sting is shown celebrating in the ring with a huge trophy in his hands, complete with the whole she-bang - confetti, fans cheering, pyro. I have no idea what this is, unless it's a foreign pay-per-view that the WCW did in the late 90's. I'm not too much of a WCW expert, but I have no conceivable timeline that fits in with this. Where is this footage from?
