What was the reason for Vince putting the gold on Flair? Not that I'm complaining about it, but I still think its weird Vince would make the top star of his opposing company his champion.

I'm watching SSeries 1990, what the fuck happened to Jake Roberts' eye?!!

Vince, even as jaded as he is, knew that Flair was a top star, which was the reason why he jumped at the opportunity to steal him from WCW. From the moment he entered the company in the summer of 1991, he was pushed as a main eventer. Vince would have been stupid to not give him the title, and he did it about as perfectly as one could have hoped for with the rumble win.

The angle was that Rick Martel had attempted to kill Damien by shooting his "Arrogance" perfume at the snake during the Brother Love Show. Jake was out of action for a few months (don't know the real reason behind this) and when he returned (during a Martel/Santana match on SNME I believe) he acted as if he was blind in one eye. That is what led to the blindfold match at WM7, and that is why he was wearing those crazy contacts.

At the end of the show, Bobby Heenan suddenly blurted out "The Ultimate Warrior won't be appearing at Survivor Series" or something like that.

It was a little more subtle than that. More like "Macho Man and the Warrior won't be coming to the ring together."

Then 2 days later during Prime Time is when Perfect was asked to be Savage's new partner.

I think he said "One of the Ultimate Maniacs won't be at Survior Series"

Vince: "What?!?"

Bobby (to phone) : "Which one?"

I seem to remember him wrestling at least one jobber match (and definitely an interview or two) following WM with them hyping his feud with Warrior. Soon after that though, he disappeared, and the focus switched to Papa Shango.

I vaguely remember him having one more match and I do somewhat remember and interview or two so I am guessing that is he did after WWF WrestleMania VIII. Might I add that his destruction of jobbers and Virgil before WWF WrestleMania VIII was actually pretty awesome if you ask me. He just seemed crazy like when he would send guys into the ring posts of stretchers and such I just found it to be such a great build up to his match against Hulk Hogan at WWF WrestleMania VIII!!!

Thanks.

I was watching the "It's Time" PPV from December 1996 tonight. I loved the setup for the main event, with HBK slowly turning into a cocky SOB of a heel who hated Bret Hart. I know the original plan was to have HBK win the title back from Sid (at the Rumble as happened, I'm guessing) and then lose to Bret at WM. When did the decision come to turn HBK back babyface? I know the Rumble was in San Antonio, so did they decide to keep him face before the "I lost my smile" speech? It's just really clear by watching this show that they were setting HBK up for a heel run.

Just been watching WCW Classics today in the UK (another fantastic show with Austin vs Steamboat in a 10-minute draw, todays show was 1/18/92) and I was wondering if anyone could post the locations for all the tapings of World Wide Wrestling from July 91 until say March 1992. I think they used to be printed in a magazine with the WWF TV taping results but I don't know. I could write up a list of matches if they don't specify which taping is for World Wide and whatever the other WCW shows were. Thanks to anyone who can help!

I think that's just an opinion. Just because Shawn trash talked Bret doesn't mean he was turning heel ... hell, Bret was trash talking Shawn at the same time.

Had the Mania match happened, would one of them have turned heel? Maybe. Would it have been Shawn? ... Doubt it.

I don't have an exact time and date, down to the second, of when the whole double switch with Austin was planned, but I think it was set up pretty soon after Bret returned.

I've heard that the original plan was to turn Shawn heel and have Bret beat him at Mania, but they backed off because of the Rumble being in San Antonio...or something silly like that.

I know I've heard that Bret and Cornette had planned Bret's turn before the end of 96. Whether or not it was before or after the show, I'm not sure.

I have heard Jim Ross talk about several times how he was fired twice in the WWF. Anyone know exactly when this happened (eg about what month and year) and also if known why he was fired?

1.) What led to the Piper / Goldust match at WM 12?

2.) If Vince was so concentrated on using younger talent by phasing out Hogan and Savage, why did he bring back the Ultimate Warrior in 96?

3.) How did Nash came back after being "retired" at Road Wild 1999?

4.) Did Sting turn heel in 1999 on a Nitro or was it Fall Brawl? How did he turn heel?

IIRC, JR's contract ran out in February 1994, which just happened to coincide with JR's first bout of Bell's Palsy. He was brought back when Vince McMahon's steroid trial was getting underway and disappeared as soon as Vince came back, so I'd assume that was the second firing (that would have been July 1994).

1.) What led to the Piper / Goldust match at WM 12?

It was originally scheduled to be Goldust-Razor Ramon, but Scott Hall was suspended for six weeks about six weeks prior to the sho (I think he'd failed a drug test). The WWF basically did a lot of careful editing to build to the fact that Goldust was making advances to Piper, and interim president Piper finally got fed up and made the match for Mania.

3.) How did Nash came back after being "retired" at Road Wild 1999?

Didn't Vince Russo just kind of bring him back one night? I know he was back by the end of October but can't remember the specifics.

Lucky me, I think I was there for Nash's first match back.

He and Hall were on hand in Phoenix the day after Havoc 99 and were told they had to wrestle. Nash "But I'm retired!" Then the two had a little play argument where Nash threatened to kick Hall in the shin and Hall responded with "Man, I'll pinch you so hard!"

As it turned out, they had to "wrestle" a bunch of top heavy porn star chicks...

Because Nash and Hall had just gave notice that they were heading to WCW and Vince was after any big name guy he could get.

That could be one factor but Vince has made it well known that he'll hire / re-hire anyone if he thinks they can make money for him.

Another Nash shoot comment : He and Hall were sitting ast ringside during the fall of 99 and Tenay or somebody came up to them and said "When will we see the Outsiders in the ring again!???!!" Hall: "Since Kev's working the retirement angle, I think we'll just chill for a while"

Was Steve Austin really booked to win the title at the Final Four match, but the end had to be changed when he got hurt?

Yeah. The version I heard was that he was supposed to win it that night, and job to Sid the next night off of interference from Bret.

Who were Terry, Tyrell and Jade that Jesse Ventura referred to at the first 6 (or at least five of the first 6) WrestleManias?

There was also a Jeremiah mentioned at 5, but not at 6.

WHO WERE THEY?

Does anyone know of a wrestler in the 70's known as Turk the Terrible or The Terrible Turk? I think he was based in Florida, and wrestled Hogan before he was Hogan.

Here's one...

When did Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo start referring to themselves collectively as The U.S. Express?

The seeds had been planted by WrestleMania I (with them coming to the ring to "Born in the USA"), but the official name came sometime between WrestleMania and Windham/Rotundo regaining the titles in June. I don't know if anybody here can narrow it down further than that.

Was Sid added as the ref at SSlam just in case Warrior pulled a no show, so that Sid could step right into the lead role?

Going through Cawthon's site, I saw a tag team named Double Trouble who faced High Energy and I believe the Nasty Boys on the tag team circuit in 1992. Anyone know who they were?

The Harris Brothers. They never made it to TV under the gimmick.

Nah. Double Trouble were OBSCENELY fat twins. Fatter than the Disasters at the time. Fatter than the Headhunters. I'm talking Abdullah the Butcher fat --- TIMES TWO.

...Who had a match of theirs on tape and, well, it's obvious why they never made it to TV

I remember reading about them on Madison Carter's old "Weird World of Wrestling" site (he writes stuff for WrestleCrap now). They were a tag team in the indies called the Undertakers, that's pretty much all I remember.
