Guest permagrinning Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 I must say, spanky is one of the best reasons lately to be watching wwe for myself. He comes in with enthusiasm and seems to have a guinine love for what he's doing and the fans. Anyone else have any opinion on him? Or any comments on some of the recent positives in the WWE currently? Better than just bemoaning the state of things, that so many have taken to.

Other than last week, which had the Angle return and the cruiserweight title main eventing, whether or not I watch Smackdown depends on how much Spanky is on the show. I'm glad they let him keep the gimmick. If you want to see old Spanky stuff from ROH, his matches against Jay Briscoe and Jody Fleisch are on Kazaa.

Plus, along with the ring skills he brings in a lot of charisma which draws me in more than some big oaf grunting (ie Big Show) on a side note, I got him to sign my access magazine from WM this year. Short little guy but cool as hell.

Have you seen any of his stuff? Besides the small amount of time they have given him on Smackdown anyways? I don't think it's fair for you to say that he sucks, if you haven't seen any of his work. How many matches has he worked in the WWE? Give him some time...
Guest art_vandelay Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 When Spanky wrestles, he shows the same spark that a guy like Jamie Noble had when he first made it to the WWE. Now look at Noble jobbing on Velocity. Though he still puts out a lot of effort, when compared to his earlier matches against Hurricane and Kidman, the wear and cynicism in his current offerings start to show. The level of talent Spanky has will forever be hindered by his size. I love watching him work but at the same time I hate it because I know he'll never have another match the calibre of his debut (against Kurt Angle).

I mean, I know Rey got a push earlier, but I'm just saying that just because he's not a big man doesn't mean he won't have great matches. They have to come around. The crowds are speaking...

Brian Kendrick's Spanky ROH gimmick was that of a cocky heel like Chris Jericho/Shawn Michaels who flaunted himself to piss the crowd off. His gimmick in WWE is...well...all he does is just run to the ring really fast and wear generic green shorts.

He asked the valet to park his pogo stick for him and gave the guy a dollar tip - the guy said he couldnt park it and spanky said "Looks like someone just lost there tip" and walked away. spanky rules.

I mean a feud where he tags with HBK and they do a mentor/protegee team and then he turns on him and calls himself the new Heartbreak Kid. It would culminate in him defeating HBK and coming into his own. That would rule. And I'm dreaming b/c Shawn would never do that.

It's funny you mentioned that- his main program during the entire duration of his ROH stint was that Michael Shane (HBK's nephew) was pissed that Spanky was going around calling himself "the new Showstopper." This eventually went to a 3way dance between Shane, Spanky and Paul London for the rights to the "Showstopper" name. Shane won, only because it was pretty well known by that time that Spanky was WWE-bound. If you guys want Spanky merch, RF is still selling his ROH shirt.

Really good match...Shane has one of the best diving elbow drops ever. Anyway, Spanky is in fact the man. His work in Japan can prove that he is a good face as well. The main reason why he was a good face was because he was still really cocky, but he did more faceish things, yah know? Like, he was SPANKY, but more SPbriankendrickANKY...I guess. Definitely buy the tape, too

That match made me cry, because it could have been SO MUCH MORE if O'Hare was allowed to do his thing instead of be HHH Jr. EDIT: I thought I read somewhere that Shawn said he'd job for the kid if he couldn't get over by himself. I guess it means he's the first clique member who doesn't suck? =b
