Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 18, 2003 So we've got Undertaker and APA vs FBI at Vengence. Yowza! At least the crap is contained in one match. Ya forgot... Mr. America and A-Train are still lurking around... Man...13 years ago...A-TRAIN would've been the biggest heel of all time...Ya guys realize that?
Bored 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Here are detailed spoilers but doesn't sound like they announced any other matches in the tournament. DARK MATCHES (1) Gail Kim def. Dawn Marie. Bland women's match, the soon-to-be Raw ladies contender wins with a victory roll. (2) Ultimo Dragon def. Michael Shane. THIS IS A DARK MATCH?!?!?! Awesome way to light up the crowd. Dragon looked as good as ever, sticking in his usual repertoire of stiff kicks. His opener looked awesome as well, lots of fire to simulate dragonfire. Dragon took the win with by taking a front face lock variation, jumping all the way over the top, and dropping down with a reverse DDT like move. VELOCITY MATCHES (1) A-Train def. Orlando Jordan. A-Train came out MAD for some reason. I'm assuming it will be explained more on the show. Jordan got in some moves, but A-Train eventually took the win with the Derailer. (2) John Cena def. Funaki. Funaki and Cena get a rematch from last week's Smackdown, and although Funaki got some more time and moves in, Cena proved too much for him. Cena connected with the F-U for the pinfall win. (3) Matt Hardy def. Paul Logan. No Crash or Shannon Moore with Hardy. Average match, when Logan missed a shooting star press, Matt dropped two Twists Of Fate on him to take the pinfall. (4) Basham Brothers (w/ Shaneiqua) def. Shannon Moore & Crash. I'm not sure if this is new or not, but Moore and Crash came out to an opener that was a parody of Matt Hardy's opener. The computer graphic starts to load up, but had a "system failure" at 30% loaded. I thought it was hilarious. The Bashams got the pin on Shannon Moore when they connected with a combination running forearm into a Russian leg sweep. SMACKDOWN MATCHES The show opens with a replay of the superplex that imploded the ring last week between Big Show and Brock Lesnar. It is announced that Show and Lesnar will have a rematch for the title tonight. (1) Undertaker def. Nunzio (w/ FBI). Taker quickly opened up a couple of cans on Nunzio, including an awesome chokeslam over the top rope onto the other members of FBI at ringside. Nunzio was quickly dropped by the Last Ride for the pinfall for Undertaker. After the match, Stamboli and Palumbo start to beat up on Undertaker, and as the FBI starts to gain an advantage, the surprise is dropped -- THE APA RETURNS! Bradshaw and Simmons run out and manage to chase out FBI with Taker's help. Zack Gowen is shown getting condolences from some of the other wrestlers in the back. He makes his way to Stephanie's office, but finds only Sable there instead. Sable invites Zack into the office alone, making sure that no one has followed him. We also see a "Brock Lesnar Timeline" clip, highlighting the feud between Show and Lesnar. These timelines were spaced in various parts of the show. (2) Chris Benoit def. Rhyno. Benoit and Rhyno came out together for what looked like a tag team match, when Stephanie McMahon came out, carrying the newly redesigned United States Title Belt. She announces that this match will not be a tag match, but instead Benoit and Rhyno will go one-on-one in a first round match for the U.S. Title, which will be decided at the next pay-per-view. The match started off with some decent scientific moves, but got SLOW from there on through. Lots of rest holds were used, and the crowd started getting restless, chanting "GO SPURS GO" instead of anything related to the match. Benoit finally turned the match into his favor and got the win with the Crippler Crossface. After the match, Benoit extended his hand to Rhyno, but they did not shake hands. Back in Stephanie's office, Sable is coming on to Zack Gowen. She mentions that last week, Zack got to see Sable's puppies, but this week, she would like him to feel them. Sable directs Zack's hands to the lower parts of her body, off camera of course. (3) Rey Mysterio def. Kanyon. As the match was about to open, it was announced that Ultimo Dragon would make his Smackdown debut on next week's episode, which would be taped at Madison Square Garden. The match was a typical match of Kanyon's size against Rey's speed. Rey's speed finally won out, as he connected with the 619 followed by the West Coast Pop for the win. (4) Kurt Angle def. Charlie Haas. Haas and Benjamin came out to ringside in new outfits and new music, but the crowd still chanted "You Suck" for them. Haas and Benjamin challenge Kurt Angle to a match next week, but Angle comes out and says that next week is for wimps. He's ready to get it on tonight. Charlie Haas decides to take Angle's challenge and hooks it up. Shelton Benjamin got in a cheap shot against the post while Angle was outside, but the ref heard it and ejected Benjamin from ringside for the rest of the match. After some nice back-and-forth action, Angle took the pinfall win with the Angle Slam. Benjamin came running back out to double-team Angle, and as they beat up on Kurt, Brock Lesnar came out to make the save for Kurt. In Stephanie's office, Sable is continuing to make out with Zack Gowen. She makes Zack beg for her, then tells him that there is no way he would ever get to be with Sable. As Sable starts to put him down, Vince McMahon comes in the office and kicks Zack out of the office. He then laughs with Sable, revealing that the whole thing was a setup to be able to make fun of Zack. (5) Billy Gunn (w/ Torrie Wilson) def. Jamie Noble (w/ Nidia). Squash match for Gunn. Nidia and Torrie managed to get in a little catfight, but it was broken up by Gunn. Gunn took the pinfall win with his Fameasser. (6) Sean O'Haire (w/ Roddy Piper) def. Eddie Guerrero (w/ Tajiri). Piper comes out with a bottle of tequila for Eddie to drink, making fun of Eddie during the match. Tajiri tried to keep Piper from interfering, but Piper instead took a swig of the tequila and spit it in Tajiri's face, paying him back from last week. The actions at ringside distracted Eddie long enough for O'Haire to get the win with his fireman's carry slam variation. Back in the office, Sable and Vince continue to gloat over how they got one over on Zack. Sable gives a small kiss to Vince, and then mounts him on top of a desk. Just as they are starting to have some fun, Stephanie McMahon comes in and kicks out Sable. Stephanie RIPS INTO Vince with a MAJOR fit. She was getting so emotional, I had trouble understanding what all she was saying. I caught that she definitely wanted Zack Gowen to get a contract with WWE, and that she didn't care if Vince fired her or not. Vince was left speechless for once. It is announced that on next week's Smackdown, Undertaker and the APA will take on all three members of the FBI in a six-man match. (7) Brock Lesnar def. Big Show by disqualification to retain the WWE Championship. Lesnar climbed up on the top rope to start the match, and dared Big Show to follow him. Instead, the start of the match had a lot of fighting on the outside. Lesnar started to gain control, and as he lifted up Show for the F-5, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin ran in for the DQ. Show, Haas, and Benjamin all triple-teamed Lesnar until Kurt Angle came in to try and even the odds. Show finally dropped Angle with a chokeslam, and as the beating continued, Mr. America ran in to even the odds some more. Mr. America got some shots in on Show, but as he tried to slam Show, Haas and Benjamin broke it up. Mr. America wound up eating a chokeslam, and Show, Haas, and Benjamin left Angle, Lesnar, and Mr. America lying out cold to end the show. POST MATCH ACTIVITIES After the camera stopped rolling, Mr. America popped up and no-sold the chokeslam. He "Americad Out" and clotheslined Big Show out of the ring. Brock Lesnar drilled Shelton Benjamin with the F-5, and then let Kurt Angle clamp on the Angle Lock. Charlie Haas also ate an F-5 courtesy of Lesnar. Angle left the ring first, followed by Lesnar. Mr. America stayed behind for the last posedown for the crowd, lifting up his mask at times to show that he was indeed Hulk Hogan, and giving the "hush-hush" sign to the crowd. All in all, a decent Smackdown, but I really expected more considering this was the 200th episode of the show. No one even mentioned the San Antonio Spurs, which could have easily gotten either some cheap heel heat or a face pop if used right. I'm hoping the Benoit-Rhyno match sounds better when seen with color commentary, because in person, the match was one of the biggest snore-fests I've seen in some time. Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 18, 2003 HA! BENOIT/RHYNO SUCKED! Good...What it deserves for having Smarks cream for match for weeks... Eh decent looking ra...I mean Smackdown.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Paul Logan? *Laughs* It's London, though. Shooting star press gives it away.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 18, 2003 ^Fuck his Ass. Logan and London sound fucking identical as shit dumb ass.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Gunn squashes a cruiserweight. APA come back. Brock vs. Big Show again. Two Losers in match for Losers (Benoit vs. Rhyno). (HEY! Wuddya know, two guys who have been buried for the last 2/3 months get no crowd interest... HOWD THAT HAPPEN!) Rey, the Cruiserweight Champion, faces a heavyweight. More McMahon and Sable (making fun of a cripple, no less). Taker squashing another cruiserweight. This is supposed to be our saviour?
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Isn't it funny how that Orlando guy beats every cruiserweight, but then he can't be A-train. Why does Vince have such a hardon for big guys beating cruiserweights? While Raw has been getting better, Smackdown continues on its descent week by week down the shitter. Will Kanyon ever win a match? When is the last time Noble has won one? I think it has been like 4 or 5 months.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 So...... New US belt = BOOOO! Heel Rhyno = YAY! Face Stephanie = BOOOO! That was the chave Smackdown review.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 18, 2003 ummmm...Stephanie been the face since she came back if I am correct...
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Report post Posted June 18, 2003 In theory, yes she is a face. But I can't think of anything very facelike she's done. And no, signing Mr. America doesn't count because she had no idea who she was signing.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Two Losers in match for Losers (Benoit vs. Rhyno). (HEY! Wuddya know, two guys who have been buried for the last 2/3 months get no crowd interest... HOWD THAT HAPPEN!) It happened because there match was, and I quote, 'a snozefest'. Benoit may be awesome, but his match didn't suck cause he's being held down. His match sucked cause it sucked. Guest bravesfan Report post Posted June 18, 2003 In theory, yes she is a face. But I can't think of anything very facelike she's done. And no, signing Mr. America doesn't count because she had no idea who she was signing. She's been a face by default, due to her feuds with Bischoff and her father. In terms of face-like actions, she basically "caters to the fans"; by setting up the recent title tournaments and being the on-air spokeswomen for announcing exciting matches (any combination of the Smackdown Six's battles in the fall, as well as the HIAC). EDIT: She did help 'Taker in having "Tracy", the girl who accused 'Taker of taking advantage of her (?), confess to lying about it all along.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 (2) Chris Benoit def. Rhyno. Lots of rest holds were used GREAT, WWE has turned both Rhyno and Chris Benoit into the new Christians(the wrestler). This sucks. Benoit might as well just wrestle for Ring of Honor, MLW, or somewhere where he can actually be able to WRESTLE again instead of being WWE-ized every week by WWE. Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted June 18, 2003 4 Sable / McMahon / Zach / McMahon segments. For fucks sake.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Isn't it funny how that Orlando guy beats every cruiserweight, but then he can't be A-train. Why does Vince have such a hardon for big guys beating cruiserweights Not true. Crash beat Orlando. The issue that might be of interest is: Orlando is 2-2 since his call up. 2 wins against WCW buy-out guys, and 2 losses against WWE guys. Hmmm... Fuck Taker. And fuck the APA returning. I bet they get to squash the FBI, too. They portray the FBI as threats, then job them out the last 3 weeks to Taker, and then will most likely job them next week to Taker/APA. Gunn squashes Knoble? Fuck Steph. And why do Benoit/Rhyno in the 1st round? Wouldn't this be better for a later round, or possibly the finals? Rey/Kanyon looks like a good match, as does Mattitude/London and Bashams/MF'ers on Velocity.

Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted June 18, 2003 What it deserves for having Smarks cream for match for weeks... I read this five times and I still can't understand what you're trying to convey. "Lots of rest holds were used, and the crowd started getting restless, chanting "GO SPURS GO" instead of anything related to the match. Benoit finally turned the match into his favor........." Hm. Guess that means the rest holds were coming from one person. Always knew that Rhyno was overhyped.
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Its quite possible the match did NOT suck and this guy just didn't enjoy it also. But assuming that would not allow everyone to complain. niko

Guess that means the rest holds were coming from one person. Always knew that Rhyno was overhyped. Well now that I think about it, from what I've seen of Rhyno since he came back when he used his face offense, it's just been diving shoulder block, spinebuster, and The Gore. Now that he's a heel, I guess it'll be chinlocks.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted June 18, 2003 I'm looking forward to London/Hardy, despite Paul losing. And you can't really say it's a "fuck you" to TNA (though it very well could be) because London is not a contracted WWE worker. However, if he does win tomorrow against Sabin, it makes the WWE look "better" than their rival.
Guest mach7 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Last time I checked, wasn't Bradshaw on Raw? And weren't the rosters "frozen" by Vince? Wait. Forget about all of that. Why is he even back? Why is Faarooq back? When did the APA ever draw? Last time I checked it was, oh, right about.. oh, NEVER.

So I guess his match at Armageddon was boring because Eddie Guerrero is over-hyped. And the same for his Summerslam match with RVD. 4 Sable / McMahon / Zach / McMahon segments. For fucks sake. 4 segments to 7 matches...you know what, for some reason i don't feel like bitching about that.
Guest INXS Report post Posted June 18, 2003 That is one Hell of a push Matt Hardy is getting to the "heavyweights." Show looks pretty decent.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Bishoff is God: If you found Benoit/Guerrrero boring, you shouldn't be watching wrestling. Benoit/RVD wasn't as good but it certainly wasn't boring. Let's reserve judgement for the Benoit/Rhyno match. I bet anything it'll be better than what's reported.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Remember that Benot/Haas was reported as having lots of "rest holds". When the match came on I noticed there weren't rest holds at all and it was the best match Haas ever had in singles.

Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Why is Matt and Cena on Velocity? Why isn't Rey facing cruisers like Noble instead on Kanyon? Why is Billy Gunn...forget it. I think I'll pass on Smackdown this week.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Why is it WWE's fault that Rhyno-Benoit sucked? Go away and masturbate to the Royal Rumble.
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted June 18, 2003 See...it CAN'T be Benoit's fault. So I guess his match at Armageddon was boring because Eddie Guerrero is over-hyped. And the same for his Summerslam match with RVD. Eddy's match with Benoit was around ****, so it was anything but boring. RVD's SummerSlam match with Benoit was waiting to be a ****1/4 classic until all the smarks forgot that RVD can't sell for his life. Benoit tried his darndest, and he succeeded. RVD didn't try at all, and he succeeded at sucking in that match. I contend that if RVD tried to sell in that match and made it epic (like it could have been), RVD would not be in the spot he's in right now. Of course, HHH would have still moved him down the card. But, I don't think he would be near the level he's at now if that match worked. And that was all RVD's fault. Jason
