teke184 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Vengeance, promoted mainly around Vince McMahon vs. Zach Gowan, drew what's expected to be a 0.42 buyrate, the lowest for the WWE since In Your House: It's Time, headlined by Psycho Sid vs. Bret Hart in late 1996. teke184 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Going in, it looked like a total POS card. It's not what happens on the show that affects the buyrate as much as what you THINK is going to happen. The next SD-only PPV will probably do better since the show was so good despite Vince and Steph.
Kurt Angle Mark 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I had a feeling this was going to happen. Smackdown may have the better wrestlers but they don't have the star power that Raw does.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 You mean Bad Blood had more buy rates than Vengeance?!! O_O
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Vince: Well, it's a shame that poor Gowan kid dragged down the buyrate like that Hogan chap. I know what will work, Me vs. Angle! SUMMERSLAM~! Steph: I told you daddy! Sable is bad news! Let's bring back Sunny! I think we could do some BIG business! HHH: Yeah, and put me and Kev on Smackdown too. We're the real deal Dad. Not like that Brock Lesnar.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I'm sure since Vengeance was overall great, profit will be made from VHS / DVD purchases next month. I would mark out for a Sunny return.
The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Bob Barron could draw a bigger buyrate than Vince McMahon at this point... ...oh yes...yes he could...
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Vince won't accept the blame, niether will Steph, and the ME had some McMahon Golden Boys in it. Someone strange will be blamed. Somehow this is Jericho's fault.

Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I had a feeling this was going to happen. Smackdown may have the better wrestlers but they don't have the star power that Raw does. Raw has star power? Hey, they had Foley refereeing the main event, and Mick has a very loyal fanbase. Also, while it may not be anywhere close to 1998 levels, Goldberg has one too. Hey, they had Foley refereeing the main event, and Mick has a very loyal fanbase. Also, while it may not be anywhere close to 1998 levels, Goldberg has one too. Not a fanbase devoted enough to buy a PPV because of him, according to Backlash's buyrate. And Foley being brought in for Bad Blood was a desperation move. Even WWE knew how much the show would suck. Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Of course it was a desparation move. That's why they did it. It's not a huge logic stretch.

The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I was waiting for this...because I have long suspected that no one really cares about Smackdown. I don't even care about Smackdown and most of the people I like are on it.
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I didn't see it but wasn't the main, Angle/Show/Lesnar?
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 If you mean...was that the last match...then yes. But a majority of the buildup on TV and in ads was for McMAhon/Gowen. I mean...a HUGE majority
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Its the better show, but nobody cares? That doesn't make any sense!
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Somehow this is Jericho's fault. No, I'm guessing it's going to be Angle's fault.
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 All the July main events involved Show, Lesnar, and Angle. It really is an odd thing considering ratings. Sometimes who ever goes on last gets blamed for the bad buyrate/ratings but sometimes it's who gets the most hype. I know Vince/Gowen was hyped alot but people still knew of the main event of Lesnar/Show/Angle. It's odd because WM and Vengeance both had considerably worse buyrates and they had Brock and Angle in the main event yet a good number of advertising went towards the McMahon match. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Given that the vast majority of the television time was given to the McMahons, the "fault" of the suspected low buyrate falls on them.
ANKLELOCK 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 I dont believe this. It is all Vince's fault.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Most of th eTV time leading up to it was for Hogan/Gowan/Steph and Vince. hogan quit and the rest put on a terrible buyrate. Hurrah! Seriously though...I've been certain for some time that people will not pay to watch Brock Lesnar be a face. Nothing he did during his face run changes that beleif for me. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 Sable / Steph and McMahon / Gowen were not worth part of paying $35 for the overall, good PPV. Although props to Vince for the sick blade job.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 This also seems to be backing up the better ratings that Raw has been getting recently, showing it is the most popular show. Remember kids, Vince and HHH were right. We were wrong.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2003 It's the writers/promoters fault, period. It's a shame that such a good PPV got such a horrible buyrate. Then again, it had a shit buildup for basicly everything.
