Guest Ecto Cooler Report post Posted August 29, 2003 being black and saying repetitive lyrics that you didn't even write = talent But not knowing anything about what you are talking about and making generalizations on single=being stupid. Ripper - you're just like all the other kids I know who listen to rap/hip-hop. You defend the genre to no end without any reasoning, and when someone says ONE thing negative about it you come back with "Dude, you're not down with it, you wouldn't know". I think the market is oversaturated with rap/hip-hop, and the only reason Missy performed last night was to appease the African American demographic. Is rap/hip-hop popular? Yes. Does it sell? Yes. Does that make it good music? No.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Funniest part of the night: my friend thought that the random black guy that ran on stage when Snoop was out there was that high school basketball player that's skipping college. He's just like "why the fuck is that basketball player so wasted". I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wasn't him. That was a weird moment, but for some reason it seemed staged. Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 See, here is how I like to argue. I wait for someone to come up with a point that doesn't sound like they pulled it from their ass and then I come up with reasons I believe that that point it wrong. "She is a fat, non-talented bitch" is not a real argument. It holds no water. It is just plain ignorant and there is nothing to argue except the intellegence of the person that spewed this shit. You make a point about why Hip-hop is bad music and I will couterpoint. Until then you are just saying "Hip-hop sucks because it sucks." and I really don't give a shit about your opinion. Missy is a song writer with Jodeci, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah and others being on the long list of those she has written for. Even longer is the list of artist she has produced songs with. Then you add her 3 multiplatnium albums, yet your arguement is what, that her song used samples therefore she has no talent? Yeah..thats a great point there.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted August 29, 2003 If the market is oversaturated with hip-hop, then Missy's appearance last night wasn't just to appease the black demographic. Obviously, black people aren't the only ones buying her records. It has nothing to do with "not being down" or not "understanding" the music. You just have yet to point out why she "sucks" and the music you happen to like is so much better. For everything your favorite band has to do or accomplish to make a hit song, so does Missy. To generalize, stereotypify and talk out of your ass about the three seconds of one of her songs you may have heard just makes you sound more ignorant than you already are and doesn't give me high hopes for an intelligent or coherent rebuttal. Is rock music popluar? Yes. Does it sell? Yes. Does that make it good music? No. Btw, Obie Trice is not in G-Unit, for whomever felt qualified to speak up on that issue. Obie is a friend of Em's. G-Unit is Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 29, 2003 People defending trash like 50 Cent...why? If you're such a fan of that genre, you shouldn't be defending someone like him. You don't see the "everything but rock sucks" fans defending or supporting trash like Good Charlotte or Linkin Park. rap or rock...it all sucked this year. Metallica blew just as much ass as 50 cent last night.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I also would like to add to that dumbass that called Missy a "talentless, fat bitch" that she has more talent in a drop of her piss than anyone on this board and half of YOUR favorite artist have. Hey, if I would've known that you could get big wearing a giant garbage bag and repeating the phrase "batatata" for 20 seconds, then I would've been Workin' It too. No...the writer, singer, producer, grammy winner did alot more than that. But of course, ignorance is bliss around here so what d fuck ever. Yeah she gets the great beats and ideas from Timbaland. Of course Timberland telling people that he gets credit for a lot of her stuff unfairly and her changeing her style so that people to lazy to look at who produced the song would stop saying that makes that statement completely false. You don't see the "everything but rock sucks" fans defending or supporting trash like Good Charlotte or Linkin Park. rap or rock...it all sucked this year. Metallica blew just as much ass as 50 cent last night. Except the Rock fans say that Good Charlotte aren't Rock and Linkin Park isn't rock. They put them in another genre so they can continue to say that Rock is the perfect genre. There is good hip-hop and there is lazy uncreative hip-hop...the EXACT same way that there is lazy uncreative rock. And while everyone is calling 50 Cent crap, I would challenge them to name more than 3 songs that he has had. His music catalog is at least 150 tracks that I own...yet with these 3 he must suck. It gets frustrating that everything about hip-hop in this folder is over generalized and stereotyped. If someone starts a thread about it, some jack ass will run in, his post will contain "bling bling" "g-dawg" or "bitch" at least 4-5 times, and leave to go and suck the same 4 rock bands dicks forever. Metallica hasn't done shit worth listening to since the Black Album (I know...my opinion) but they get this constant blow job from this thread despite putting out uncreative, un inspired music. But do you see one of the hip-hop fans come in and say" Rock SUCKS!! All they do is yell and break shit and yell somemore...They are stupid little white boyz FUCK ROCK~~!!!" No. If you want to discuss the pros and cons of the genre, do it, but coming in with uninformed, unintellegent, stereotypical insults is going to do nothing but make people look like the jackass they are. Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 As we all know, if you disagree with someone, you're stupid. I don't like rap. I don't like it in the least. I don't understand why there are so many people out there who absolutely love it, but hey, to each their own. I think all rappers are talentless fucks, but then again, there's a lot of rock & metal musicians that are talentless fucks too. So I'll end this argument with a timeless adage: To each, their own. Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I have a few questions regarding the VMA's Did Avril just vanish before my very eyes? Who said it was okay for Duran Duran to get an award? Are you sure that Cash was the oldest person there? Since when did James Hetfield start looking older than Cash? Why does Christina Auguilera look like my mother? Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted August 29, 2003 What he said. I'm too tired to continue arguing with these stupid fucks. You were defending Missy Elliott Did you think you could come out ahead? No, I was arguing with idiots who don't really have a point or a clue, OF COURSE I can't come out ahead. I can defend Missy and the entire genre just fine. You're the one that can't come up with one logical point other than "she's black and fat and sUxx OMG LOL~!" if that even counts as a "point." But what is good is my defense anyway when I'm presenting it to a close-minded, backwoods, redneck internet geek who probably thinks fucking his cousin is okay? You can't win in that situation. To answer a question, Yayo is incarcerated (or either *just* came home) and Young Buck and Banks performed last night with 50. I think the point that everyone is missing is that the VMA's are supposed to provide something for everyone. When they do, people act as if it's a bad thing; Like the show should be all rock or whatever. The VMA's celebrates and awards popular music. Like it or not, rap is popular regardless of whether you personally like it or not or think the artists have "talent." MTV did a good job of giving everyone a little something last night. Bitching about them including other genres is fucking dumb. If you want ALL ROCK, ALL THE TIME leave your basement and go to a concert or turn on the radio. Until then, please...shut the fuck up. There are unworthy talentless fucks in EVERY genre of music. That means ROCK, too.

Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2003 And just as a general comment: just because you personally don't like a certain type of music does not make the performers untalented. I don't like Prince in the slightest, but to deny that the man is incredibly talented would be very stupid. I also despise almost all rap and hip-hop, but there are definitely some talented folks performing in those genres. It's just a shame a lot of them are dead. Guest JumpinJackFlash Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Can we all just realize that MTV sucks? I only watch it at 3 in the morning, when they actually play music videos. The sad thing is, they have a tape filled with three hours of music videos, and plays them every night from 1 to 4, or around there. The videos are in the same order, so if you watch MTV at that time every night, for a week, you'll know which video comes next. I found this out in late June, when I saw Metallica, Beyonce, and White Stripes all in a row for three days straight. Don't watch the VMAs. Those idiots may think you like that shit. MTV's Fall Schedule: Pissy Missy: A reality TV show about Missy Elliot, where the cameras film here throughout here house, so us poor folk can see how rich snobs take advantage of their wealth. You will be able to see Missy happy, Missy sad, Missy mad, and Missy glad. You will also be able to meet her family, which will bore the hell out of you, but they don't care, as long as you're watching. And because MTV knows its viewers are very horny little teenagers with raging hormones, Missy Elliot will have sex on every episode of her show. Its all about her, its all about Pissy Missy. Ugh! Someone get me a surplus amount of great programming. Switch it to RAW....No! Wait! NOt Raw! Where's the remote? Oh no! HHH is confronting Goldberg! Ahhhhh! Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 29, 2003 Can't we all just agree that MTV horribly represented each Genre... 50 cent didn't do anything that showed why he was so huge since all he did was walk and mumble... Metallica refuses to realize they are a fucking shell of even The Black Album. Amazing to think that Coldplay comes out the band that makes a decent impression... Although Yeah...The music wasn't great but people will remember the Madonna/Spears kiss for years...at least thats what Mtv told me today.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I have another question: Since when did Metallica create Heavy Metal? That's something one of the Stinkin Fart jackasses said.
Guest stardust Report post Posted August 29, 2003 I think everyone should be able to agree that for the most part, popular music this past year just sucked, except for a few gems here and there. And MTV is all about popular music, so of course the VMAs were going to be lackluster. I'm not particularly surprised that some of the people who won won, and it irritates me that some artists didn't win anything when I felt they deserved it more. But then again, it's the VMAs and not the Grammy's. And while the Grammy's are definitely the more prestigious and important awards show of the two, I'm almost willing to bet that the majority of people who buy CDs don't tune into the Grammy's, but rather the VMAs, because the majority of people who buy CDs are 14-year-old girls who think Benji and Joel are "sooooooo hot!!" or that Justin is "the most adorable thing ever" and don't really listen to anything outside of what TRL says they should. So the VMAs, in a way, are highly disappointing in the fact that they're helping to create a generation of mindless music fans who really don't know what truly good music is. And on another note, but something that I thought was interesting while reading some of the arguments above...60 Minutes (yes, I watch 60 Minutes) had a segment about Jay Z about three weeks ago, and I must say it was quite interesting to see his creative process and how he writes, and also to see that about 80% of the people in the audience at his concerts are white kids around the age of 20. It was also pretty funny when the 40-something-year-old white guy interviewing him said "I hear you have the best flow in the business. What exactly is flow?" Just an interesting little anecdote...
