Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 Bloody hell. If I want to order this on CD AND pay by using a money order, this is going to cost me an extra 15 bucks. Actually 16 if you factor in the cost of the money order. As much as I want this game, I hadn't intended on paying $51 for it. Anyone know what the size of TEW is going to wind up being? Because the whole reason I want to get a CD is because I'm afraid that my pissant little 56k connection won't be able to handle the download.

Where're you located? I wonder if it's shipping from the UK or is it from a distributor in NA.

I've been trying to restart an EWR campaign for the past month or so because I lost my old one.. but with TEW's impending arrival, I just haven't been able to put my heart into it. ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 I downloaded it a while ago and I'm still just setting up my own fed to play with but goddamn does it look amazing. Too bad I can't afford to buy it until the 25th.
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Yeah, I don't know what the deal is with the flimsy 24 hour trial thing. I mean, why not have it as a cumulative 24 hours of gameplay? Or even a seven day trial. Most software even give you 30 days.. it's just... wierd. But still. Hopefully I can make a proper judgement of whether I'm buying or not in these short 24 hours.. TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 I dont know if i'm alone in saying this, but from what i've seen.... EWR > TEW.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Yeah, they really should to more than 24 hours. With them releasing it on a week day, how many people will really have that much time to play it?
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 I dont know if i'm alone in saying this, but from what i've seen.... EWR > TEW. I think I may have been a little overzealous with my "this is fucking awesome" comment. I'd only scratched the surface and now that I've played it for a little while.. I'm not so sure I'll be purchasing. It's almost... too detailed, if that's possible.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 The trial overwhelmed me... I have a 3 1/2 year old computer with very little ram, so it was taking forever to go the 2nd day. I don't know who anyone is, or where I can talk to someone who should be yelling at me to do things to the roster or get sponsors (I miss Sophie). My resolution is normally 800x600, so I wasn't used to the higher resolution and had a difficult time seeing. However, it seemed really indepth, and if/when RaveX or someone posts a hack or whatever you want to call it to revert everyone and everything to real people and companies, I may just order it. Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 When is the Rave X update coming out? Because I think that a lot of the hesitant feelings towards TEW will diminish once people have actual wrestlers / feds to work with. The early criticism surrounding the game does center around its detail being confusing, but a lot of that stems from having to work with totally original feds & rosters. Adam's posted a lot about the system specs over the last few days. If you have anything less than 128 MB of RAM, you're pretty much screwed. My laptop is about 256 (half the optimal) but I think I should be okay. It does run in 1024 resolution, though. You may have to adjust.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Well, another problem is you go from EWR to this monster. It's going to take a bit more than a 1 day trial to pick up all the nuances of this game. From the very little I tried before realzing that with 64MB of ram, I need to start a new game with no other countries but North America, almost nothing was EWR-familiar. It's a whole new learnign curve. I think once people learn it, they'll love it. Unless they don't want something with depth, then I don't know.

Well I suppose this is as good an excuse as any to FINALLY buy some Ram. My monitor is about to die any day now (repeatedly wacking it to get rid of the pink/purple haze it covers the screen with isn't cutting it these days) so perhaps I can get a bigger one where 1024 won't be a big deal. Sadly, I had read "Average .400 program requirements" above as "TEW Requirements", and assumed I'd get by. Then the game tells me it needs 500-something MB of Ram to run optimally and recommends removing some of the countries. Oh well.
dubq 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Personally I love teh details of certain aspects. The actual booking, hiring, stuff like that. The other stuff that grates on my nerves though - and yes, I know this is essential for a real sim - is the markets and having to worry about how over you are in Kamloops or Kelowna, etc. I could've sworn Adam said he'd put in an auto-handler feature so that we could just skip all of the BUSINESS-business stuff and get to the meat of booking and pushing wrestlers. But I don't see it.. I guess that's what I was expecting.. something based more on the wrestlers and less on the business aspect. =\

dubq 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 It's severely incomplete. Only some workers, pics and logos. No titles, feds, networks, etc...
Vyce 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2004 Venkman - you might be okay with 64 RAM, but then again, you'd pretty much have to run with only one game area open, and the load times might be quite long (a minute or so for the first couple weeks, slightly less than a minute after that as the game sets itself). And the Rave X updates should become more detailed as time goes on, but as you can imagine, TEW is a huge game and thus it's going to take them some time to get all of the main promotions / feds from around the entire WORLD done.
