RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2003 As late as this morning I was questioning whether or not to get this PPV. I really wanted to see Tito vs. Randy, but it was a 1 fight card (oh was that ever wrong!). Needless to say it was bought...Before the main event, I could feel it. I could feel the hype. "Oh shit, Oh shit, Oh shit" - like reaching the apex of a rollercoaster. I never get that feeling with wrestling. It was pure energy man and I'm still fuckin feelin it right now. I feel like runnin around the block shouting at the top of my lungs "OH FUCK YES!!!!". I really need to organize my thoughts better... I'm all over the place. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2003 (edited) UFC 44: Undisputed Review Part One: The Introduction WHOOOO HOOOO!!! Boy whatta show! It’s a fuckin great time to be an MMA fan: Pride 25, UFC 43, Pride GP, and now UFC 44 – all excellent PPV’s and the year ain’t over yet! Totally worth the money spent and I can’t wait for Pride: Final Conflict, Pride: Bushido, and UFC 45. I’m starting to think with the level of fighters out there today, it’s impossible to have a bad card. Gotta give props out to Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, they did a great job tonight and are probably the best announce team out there today now that Quadros is out of Pride. I have this rule of thumb: If I can do a better job, then it's bad. Watching the show, nearly everything I thought (aside from the missed body shots which Bas would have picked up on immediately) Joe Rogan said. Goldberg wasn't his regular annoying self with his used car salesman approach and they have some really good chemistry. My only major problems in terms of out-of-the-ring content is that there were many production errors – be it sound problems or just bad camera angles at the wrong time – they need to polish that up a bit. Plus I don’t care what celebrities think. Nor do I really care about fighters giving shout-outs to their endless lists of sponsors. With that said, I’d like to thank Viewers Choice PPV for carrying this show, I’d like to thank IBM computers for making this swank lap-top I’m typing on, I’d also like to thank Lays Potato chips for some great snakin action, and God, I’d like to thank God, he fought real hard tonight against Tito and continues to prove everyone wrong. I really liked the graphics tonight, very pretty. I prefer the slick fonts to the scratchy kind, and the look is very nice. The entrances I’m not digging. I like glitz and glamour, I like the cool sets (it’s the only reason I ever watch Sunday Night Heat on PPV day), and Pride does it so well and successfully that I don’t understand why the UFC have gone with this bare-bones style (well, I understand why THEY have done it, but I don’t understand why any sane company would). At least have SOMETHING - lights, a video display; no matter how small, as long as it looks good it will add something to the shows. You can still keep the small enclosure, but fill it up! Bringing in wrestling fans isn’t the worst thing you can do Zuffa. Pride does it and they get 40,000+ fans at their shows. Speaking of Pride, was anyone else marking the fuck out for Takada?? That was totally unexpected! Sakuraba and Fujita in the UFC? OH DADDY! Sure, they’re not Fedor, or Cro Cop, or Wanderlei, or Nog, but fuck, they got my $ already. Sakuraba vs. Hughes?? Frankin?? Fujita vs. Sylvia? Cabbage??! That’s some good lovin right there. Chuck and Rampage one-on-one with Rogan was a sight to be seen as well. Jackson is such a superstar man; I don’t know if it was the novelty of a Pride guy talking right next to the octagon, or just Jackson workin the stick, but there was an aura around him tonight and I was feelin it. Do Dat Thang! I am so digging this Pride vs. UFC feud and I can’t wait for it to blow up. Just hearing the UFC guys talk about Pride, and showing Pride footage; it’s like the Monday Night Wars, it’s like the Hall and Nash taking over WCW, it’s like the InVasion…. Oh wait, scratch that last one. "Are they really doing this? Can they do this?" It's so fresh and new and taboo, I love it. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2003 I think I'm going to have to order a replay just to see that little bitch cry.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2003 The whole Tito/Couture fight was amazing. The crowd just going nuts for everything with chants of "Tito" and "Randy" filling the air. The first round was dynamic, and the rest was Couture takin control and showing Tito how it's done. The electricity in the air is indescribable. It wasn't the Fight of the Year, but dammit, it had the packaging of one.

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 It's weird how Arlovski had like a 4-3 record yet just obliterated Vladimir who was coming in at 12-2. Just a little thing I noticed. I'm officially jumping on the Jim Carrey bandwagon now.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 Yeah, that Rizzo lost really put Arlovski down the ladder. Rizzo, who is a good/great fighter depending on how he feels that day, isn't the name that he used to be. It's hard to remember that most of the fighters today are young and have time to improve and that one loss is just one loss. Andre was VERY impressive against Vlady, and dominated. He's not the #1 contender that Rogan made him out to be (but I'm ok with that, that's hype, I dig), but he certainly is a player in the division now.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 So should I buy this DVD for $14.96 only for the main event or should I get UFC 43 instead?

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Well, Arlovski has been facing a rather high calibre of opposition early into his career, thus his 6-3 record to Vladdy's 12-2. Also, stylistically, he matched up very well with the Janitor. however, it kind of burns me that one loss to ana animal like Andrei has made people instantly forget Vladdy. No, he's not a very exciting fighter, but it was a breath of fresh air to see the clinics he put on agaisnt Rogerio, Rizzo & Wiuff.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 Get BOTH, they were top-to-bottom great shows. If I had to pick one, it would be UFC 43.
Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 43 is Belfort v. Eastman correct? If so, then getting to see the cut over Eastman's eye is worth the price of the DVD.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 It also has a really good Freeman vs. White match, another really good Yves Edwards match, Sims/Mir I, and a "technically" better fight than Couture/Ortiz in Couture/Liddell.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2004 I shall get UFC 43 then.

razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 It would be funny listening to Jackson doing commentary. I could imagine such potential quotes "I bitch tried some bruce lee shit on me so I had to drop him on his head...........that's the ghetto drivahhhhhhhhhhhhh fuckers"
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2004 Apparently, Satake kneed him in the nuts a bunch of times which really pissed him off. That, alone, is worth the price... then there's 2 awesome fights to cap it off.
Styles 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2004 Well since this was bumped first a month ago, I don't feel as bad for bumping it again. I picked up the UFC 44 DVD and just watched it, and wow was that a great show. Not one bad fight on the show. It's nice that I could see Sylvia and Arlovsky fight so I could put the names in perspective and get pumped for their upcoming match. What can I say about the main event that hasn't already been said? Tito was just dominated. Randy must have taken him down 6 or 7 times, mounted him, took his back I think 2 or 3 times (nearly choking him out), it was just total domination. Oh and the only thing better than Randy's spanking was one of the bonus features of Randy entering his lockeroom postmatch and having his team laughing and saying "you spanked him?" and Randy answering "I dont know" and then bursting out laughing. Great, great show and it makes me want to see Randy get his rematch with Vitor as soon as possible because he deserves it. I've seen 43, 44 and 46 and really liked all of them (even though 46 had the bullshit main event), and I can't wait for 47!
