Does any one go to wrestling shows alone?

Recommended Posts

I noticed Smackdown is coming here to Philly in a few weeks and that got me thinking...does anyone here ever go to show alone?

The two Smackdown's I've gone to (in 2000 and 2001) I went by myself...wasn't terrible but it obviously *NOT* as fun as going with friends...that and it was a little weird being surrounded by goths at the second show.

Anyway...answer please.

I've never been by myself, but I don't like to go anywhere, really. BUT, I don't think it is really necessary to have someone familiar sitting beside you. All you're really doing is just sitting in a chair, watching a hosserific match, and possibly drinking an over-iced cup of watered down Sprite that you paid $2.50 for.

I think that's the problems with crowds, not just at wrestling, but at sporting events in general. Young people never pay attention or gives two bits worth of cattle dung about what they are watching. People are always busy just yapping with their friends about the way cool pair of slacks they just scored at Abercrombie and Fitch on the way over, or about ::insert friend's name here:: and WHAT THEY SAID about ::insert other friend's name here::.

Having 15,000(or 1,500 in the WWE's case) fans who don't know each other can only improve crowd response and reaction, because they will be forced to actually pay a bit of attention to the show they paid $50 to come to.

I always feel self-conscious when I go ANYWHERE on my own. Even if it is 5:00 and I am at :insert restaurant here, because I can't cook and don't want to try: getting even just a burger. It feels really strange. Wrestling shows are a little different, because personally I can enjoy being rowdy with my friends, and I can enjoy being quiet and focusing on the match.

If I'm dropping money to goto a wrestling show, I wanna watch and try to enjoy the matches. I don't wanna have to filter out useless rambling of other people who just talk to hear themselves. If I wanted to interact, I'd go someplace more condusive(is that a word) to interacting. That's just me. Doesn't make it right or wrong.

I dont really like to go anywhere alone.....movies, try to avoid malls alone....shit like that for some reason i just feel stupid and lonely...........to be honest when i go to a wrestling even i go with a friend or the last few times i've dragged my girl with me but she watches a little wrestling now so it was good........when i go its easy to interact with strangers , the thing is with any sporting event you can easily mingle and hang out with people next to you or in your area. I always end up meeting new people at sporting events ESPECIALLY wrestling.

I went to two indy shows alone, one of which I met an old classmate, but it was dreadfully dull

Sounds like you have some wonderful friends

Hey! Are you saying I don't have friends?

I did queue to get tickets alone a couple of years ago when WWA was in town and Bret Hart was there doing an autograph signing. I talked to the girl in front of me and she was going to the show to see Bret because she thought he was hot.

The actual show was pretty harsh. Jerry Lawler came out and said Bret couldn't come because his mom died. The crowd booed. Pretty harsh.

They kept chanting RVD for some reason.

I've always went with somebody, probably because I also would rather not go by myself. For instance, this last house show I went to we had all these really weird and fucked up people sitting around us to laugh out. Now if I went alone I probably wouldn't have found the whole scenario as funny.

I spend most of my free time alone. I went to Judgment Day in North Carolina and the next night's Raw in Greenville, SC by myself. I had a great time. Sure, it's better if you can go to a show with friends. However, most of my friends/acquaintances do not like wrestling.

I almost always go with the same few friends..

But I did go to one alone once and though the show was good, It didn't enjoy it that much without having my friends to exchange comments with and so on, It took away from the whole experience.

Oddly enough, I only seem to enjoy watching wrestling Tapes without distraction.

i would hate going alone.....im going to Wrestlemania XX and if i went alone it would probably cost me about 1,500 to go alone but since im not gonna be stupid im also inviting some of my friends and its gonna be 5,000$ and its totally worth it. I like having someone to talk to when something cool happens and say "DAMN DID YOU SEE THAT"

I went to the June 1st taping of SD here in Rochester alone, and I had a great time. I got to start a "Let's go Cena" chant during his match with Billy Gunn, and people laughed and I had a good time with the crowd around me.

It's probably better to go with friends, but due to WWE raping Australians for money, I went to Ruthless Aggression alone. Of course, I was in the front row, so I didn't give a damn. Living in Australia, I've always met and talked with the people around me and gotten along great. If it was a movie or something, I wouldn't go alone, but it's wrestling and I've always been lucky enough to meet half-way smark fans near me.

I would claim that the majority of Australia is smarks(although maybe not as cynical), but I can't get that guy at the door for Global Warning out of my mind who thought Undertaker would make a surprise appearance because they were selling his shirt and gave a lengthy speech about how Rock and HHH would have to team up to stop Brock Lesnar...

That's basically what happened to me when I went on my WWE trip on the 24-26 last month. However, I had a great time. Its up to you though. You could either:

1.) Enjoy the show, but keep to yourself

2.) Enjoy the show and bullshit with the people next to you / people at the arena.

3.) Enjoy the showand bash a wrestler you-don't-like's fans.

4.) # 2 & 3

I have to go alone since nobody I know enjoys wrestling anymore. I have no problem with that. Going to live events is a blast no matter if you are with somebody or not. Plus if you are by yourself you can roam easily and take some nice pictures.

I never have gone to an event alone, but if I had to go alone I definately would. Why not? Good wrestling is good wrestling no matter who is there watching with you.

I have no problem going to "real" sporting events alone (e.g. hockey games) and concerts alone. I have no problems eating at restaurants alone or going to bars alone. But I just cannot imagine myself going to a pro wrestling event alone. Not condeming those that do, it just wouldn't be as much fun for me.

I usually am concentrating on taking pics at the local shows and I have a couple people I talk to at intermission so going alone doesn't bother me at all. My brother was going with me last year but he seems to have lost interest in the local scene. (He likes the tapes but won't go to free live shows...won't go see the hardcore stuff he prefers.....it's weird) He made an inquiry about going to Smackdown in St Louis recently but didn't even make that big a push for that.

I will say that it's funner to go with people though. The night that two friends and I turned heel on Brian Pillman is still probably the funnest time I've had at a show. That one and the XWF show in Dearborn,Michigan that YNA and I went to.

Simon Diamond "You know,I could come out here and I could talk for probably about 30 minutes......."

YNA ..."DO IT!"

I went to a Raw alone last November, and it sucked.

I got stuck next to these fat 15-year-olds, who would make a "jacking off" gesture every time a diva came on screen. They obviously hadn't been fans for very long, because they knew jack shit about any of the wrestlers.

Guys they said "who's that?" to:

Lance Storm

Tommy Dreamer

William Regal

Al Snow

Maven

When an "ECW" chant started up, I think for either RVD or Dreamer, they tried to chant "WWE" and sounded like douchebags.

The crowd in general was horrible, didn't pop for ANYTHING except a small one for HBK when he came out at the end of the show.

The ROH show I went to two months before, which had maybe 450 people in attendance, was lounder than the Fleetcenter at 15,000 strong, I shit you not.

I also went to the June 1st taping with my friend and we pretty much got stalked when we were walking back to my car so, no, I'd never go alone. Not to mention I probably wouldn't have a good time by myself.

I've gone to three shows alone in the past year because I don't know anyone at college into wrestler. I still enjoyed my self and got into it, but it's alot more fun to go with some friends.
