River City Rocker 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 Metal-Sludge did a nice little rant about this list if you're interested. Metal Sludge also seems to think that sales is a much more important factor in determining a band's greatness. In that case, why wasn't Pink Floyd on that list at number one? HOW many copies of Dark Side of the Moon got sold in 30 years? Although I do agree with Sludge that Motley Crue and Def Leppard are better bands than Radiohead or Phish. (ducks thrown projectiles) -Ben
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 I agree that Motley Crue and Def Leppard are better than Radiohead and Phish, and also agreed with that rant that Thom Yorke can shit gold, and still be called a genius. though metal sludge sucks, and so does this list
Guest Random Hero Report post Posted September 7, 2003 Who the fuck are Phish??? They always seem to get mentioned here (whether it's for fiddling with 9 year olds or not). Is this the American MTV era??? Because Phish have never had a video or any press whatsoever in England.

Is this the American MTV era??? Because Phish have never had a video or any press whatsoever in England. Phish is a stoner band that plays long drawn-out crappy jams, while people stand in fields doing drugs and calling the music "genius." Think Grateful Dead but worse. I'm not pissed about this list in the slightest, it's MTV.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 Pink Floyd had three albums in the MTV era. Just saying. Here's 22 top bands: 1: Pink Floyd 2: The Beatles 3: Led Zeppelin 4: The Who 5: The Rolling Stones 6: The Clash 7: Jethro Tull 8: The Police 9: Metallica 10: Van Halen 11: Aerosmith 12: Pearl Jam 13: Chicago 14: The Jimi Hendrix Experience 15: Nirvana 16: Electric Light Orchestra 17: The Kinks 18: Wings 19: Dave Matthews Band 20: Cheap Trick 21: Guns n Roses 22: Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young Are those my opinions? Not completely. Is that the order they should be in? Doubtably. But is it a better list of 22 bands than MTV's? Clearly.

Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2003 @CR: What does your list have to do with anything? Many of the bands in your list weren't even present after 83, or aren't associated with MTV whatsoever.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2003 hilarious, def leopard and motley crue better than phish and radiohead? you guys are crazy its just not only that, but radiohead is really over-rated and like nirvana, they get massive head from almost every one for being "creative". Radiohead is far more creative than the four mentioned, but that isn't saying much. Phish are better than the Grateful Dead, but that isn't sayin much. Def Leppard is fun pop and can't go wrong. Motley Crue in the 80's had great songs. Nikki sucked at bass, but if you listen to Tommy Lee he was different from most other drummers of the era, and so is Mick Mars, who had a unique sound from the other guitarists as well. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted September 8, 2003 Oh please, Radiohead is far and away better than any cheesepop band from the 80's. Their music is more involved, and follows formulas that range outside of lead-in/verse/chorus/verse/solo/chorus. Neat layering, and they aren't in a hurry to do things. Hair metal is rushed, overproduced garbage. Def Leppard was the worst band on earth until Saliva claimed their crown, making nothing but the same song over and over again. Shitting shit and having it called genius. At least Radiohead can shit gold. I'd also say Phish is better than Def Leppard. Anastasio is definitely a better guitarist, and their meaningless stuff is better than Def Leppard's meaningless stuff, and I can't STAND Phish.

Bored 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 Every MTV list is taken with a grain of salt especially when its voted by its viewers, just see how high Linkin Park is. The only thing that I can't figure out is how is it that Rage Against the Machine wasn't even on the list to vote from? Shit they put NSYNC and the Backtreet Boys on a list of BANDS! Guest El Satanico Report post Posted September 14, 2003 Well, the list wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. Of course I don't like some of those bands, but I have no problems with most of them making the list. Limp bizkit and linkin park are the only ones that I have a problem with being on that list.
