Guest TheGame2705 Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 It'll be a grueling match on Thursday but I think it'll be more grueling for the audience than the wrestlers unless Brock pulls out another goodie. Maybe all the fans in attendance will love watching the same match for an hour. One involving Brock Lesnar. Who knows. I just know when I think Ironman I think Bret/Shawn which was good but boring as hell.
Guest Choken One Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Watch Rock/HHH keep those fans in RABID FRENZY for 60 minutes...Anaheim (SHAWN/BRET SITE) is never a good crowd but they were hot for the last 20 minutes... They are smart to have the match in WRESTLING country in Carolina...and not like San Jose or something...
Damaramu Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I usually think Flair/Bret or Rock/HHH which were both much better than Bret/Shawn. And I don't know why everyone says "it was good but boring..." the match was not good at all. This one will probably be like Rock/HHH.
Guest Choken One Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 The last 20 minutes good-great with good intensity...but that's about it...

Well I've never seen Flair/Bret and I don't like Rock/HHH for the fact that you watch a match for 60 mins. and it ends in a run-in more or less.
Jesse Badass Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I thought HBK and Bret was the best of them all. The only reason people might find it boring is because they had only one fall in the match. It depends how they do the the Kurt and Brock Iron Man Match. If they go wrestling for 60 minutes then you will see seats empty during the match.
Guest Choken One Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 God No...Bret/Flair OWNS all of them. HHH/Rock was more entertaining match and in hindsight watching the WMXII ironman match it doesn't live up to the test of time...
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 All I know is that it better be the ***** match promised on TV 10 months ago by Kurt, and especially after all the sacrificial lambs used to get there. And this is also attempt #3.
Guest JRE Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 ...They best be releasing this uncut on DVD
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 It depends on how they pace the show before hand. They have to get the fans accustomed to a slow(er) pace so the Ironman match won't seem out of place.
Guest Mulatto Heat Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 JESUS! Brock Lesnar suffers possible leg injury at house show. Odd thing is, Brock not crying like a baby for the fans is an indicator that it may be legit.
Damaramu Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I thought HBK and Bret was the best of them all. The only reason people might find it boring is because they had only one fall in the match. Umm...no....the match was boring because most of the match meant nothing at all. It was Bret and Shawn working sumbissions FOR NO REASON because it didn't lead to a fall and nobody sold much anyways...that is why the match sucked.
Guest BionicRedneck Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 (edited) The fans can go for 60 minutes. It's the wrestlers that you need to worry about. Edited September 15, 2003 by BionicRedneck

Just because you work a submission, doesn't mean you automatically get a fall from it, even in an iron man match. Bret-Flar > Bret-Shawn > Rock-HHH
Guest OnlyMe Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 The biggest problem I have with Bret / HBK is that it was hyped as "who can get the most falls in an hour?" Even if the match HADN'T been "Iron Man", it would still have gone for an hour, because nobody got a decision within that hour. Of course, it could be argued that if they weren't wrestling for an hour, then they would have changed the pace they wrestled at, but whatever. The only real difference would be that Bret would probably have won with the sharpshooter he got on the 59:30 mark, since he was forced to release it. They could have taken that somewhere, but for whatever reason, didn't.
JustJoe2k5 Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Hopefully Brock Lesnar isn't too injured, but if he is I wonder if WWE would put a replacement in the match.
Guest Choken One Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 If it were serious enough...they would have a Taker and Eddy take place for a 4 Way match...
cynicalprofit Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 there is only 3 men at this point that I believe can go ironman, Benoit, Angle, and Lesnar. They hit 2 of 3. If ones hurt, sub in the other.
SamoaRowe Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Rock/HHH was a boring Iron Man match for the sole reason that we'd been seeing those two brawl for months at that point. The Undertaker run-in was bullshit too. If Lesnar and Angle both bring their best, I have few doubts that this could become the best Iron Man match of all time, i'm just going to be pissed at the commercial breaks.
godthedog Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 bret/hbk was the better match, but angle & lesnar NEED to take rock/trips as their model, because a) it fits the current wwf style better, and b) neither of them is half as snug a worker as shawn or bret. i'm not saying they're bad workers, but they're sloppy. they're better off playing to their strengths (i.e., brawling and trademark big spots, with some mat wrestling thrown in) than trying to emulate something that just isn't going to happen. the booking needs to keep the fans into it, neither one of them has the moveset or the experience to think of ways to keep the crowd interested for 60 minutes. hell, even bret & shawn were blanking out--shawn was doing powerbombs & shit, and bret went back to the camel clutch one time too many. come to think of it, even bret and flair blanked out more than once. there's a double KO spot from a shoulder block like 55 minutes in that's really out of place, & i think there's a couple other spots like that. shit, i'm rambling. anyway: booking will save this thing. neither guy has the kind of grasp for fundamentals to have an interesting pure match for 60 minutes.

Your post made me think... This match might be great if they go at it legit greco-roman style.
godthedog Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 a little bit of that is fine, but it would get old pretty quick. fans would rightfully start nodding off, and i don't think either guy has that kind of endurance anyway. incidentally: i predict a sharpshooter spot. if angle gets a fall from it, i'll mark the fuck out.
Guest The Old Me Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 I think this match will easily top Bret vs HBK. I think the crowd WILL remain interested.

Guest RickyB Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 If Brock seriously is injured i'd say switch him with Benoit or Eddie. Benoit-Angle Iron Man = Wrestling goodness .
Internet Warfare Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 They are smart to have the match in WRESTLING country in Carolina...and not like San Jose or something... Are you bashing San Jose?
Austin3164life Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Commercials could actually help keep this match interesting (to the television audience at least). If you think about it, because of Brock's leg and Angle having to be careful with his neck, there are definitely going to be at least a few rest spots, so if they cue in commercials during those spots (chokeholds, facelock, headlock) it won't seem as boring. I'm hoping that Angle and Lesnar bust out an amazing match, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.
Guest The Old Me Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 Unless Brock's injury is really bad, they can make this match work easily.
RavishingRickRudo Posted September 15, 2003 Report Posted September 15, 2003 But they didn't really make their last two matches "work" "easily".
