Mr. S£im Citrus Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Detroit Shock defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 83-78, becoming only the third different franchise in the league's history to win the WNBA championship. They also become the first team in American major pro sports to go from dead last in the league to the championship the following season. Ruth Riley is the Finals MVP. I'm a Monarchs fan myself, but an LA loss is the next best thing to a Monarchs win!
ISportsFan Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Does anyone besides me care? No, I believe you are actually the only one that watched it. I didn't even know that their championship was going on. And it's only a 3-game series? Bah. Jason
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted September 17, 2003 Author Report Posted September 17, 2003 Meh. There's more going on than football and baseball. And, seeing as how there were 22000 in the house, I doubt very much that I was the only one watching.
Justice Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Actually, WC, I kinda care because I'm a Laimbeer Mark and I'm from Detroit. Whoo @ Having a Championship, even though it's a minor one.
Guest Choken One Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 wonder if Det. will riot for this one?
Der Kommissar Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 After having to put up with the Lions and Tigers, it's nice to know one Detroit team is winning this time of year.
starvenger Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Another month or two, and Detroit will once again have a winning team to cheer for. As for the Shock winning... eh, it's still the WNBA.
ant_7000 Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Finally, a team not named LA or Houston won the WNBA title.

Guest Flyboy Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 It Diana Taurasi was playing, I would care.

Whoo @ Having a Championship, even though it's a minor one. I don't give a crap about the WNBA, but if one team has to win it, let it be the one that Bill coaches. (Isn't Karl Malone's daughter on his team?) I still have my Pistons jersey #40 from back when I was in 7th grade...
Guest Sykotic2002 Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 I wonder if Karl Malone ever thought his daughter would beat him to the Championship.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted September 17, 2003 Report Posted September 17, 2003 Nah, I watched the game. It was a nailbiter for sure..... Just seeing a Detroit team win a championship is good enough for me. Anyways, congrats to the girls, they played hard....they got coached hard and they got rewarded for it. Wonder if they are going to get a parade, have it go on right in front of Comerica Park while the Tigers are playing. BTW, its a damn shame that the Sparks cried less than the Lakers.
