IWD 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I haven't seen much of them, but does anyone think they can make an impact - either as a tag team or as single stars? OK.
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 "OK" what? Both Bashams are horribly boring and will make no impact in WWE ever.

rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I've heard good things from their OVW days, but they've not shown much of that in WWE so far.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Right now, I would say they are the most average wrestlers I have ever seen. Nothing about them makes me not like them, just as nothing about them makes me like them. Hopefully the blandness is due to their current characters, and not their own charisma. Maybe they will get actual character development soon so we can see, but I doubt it.
notJames 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Right now, I would say they are the most average wrestlers I have ever seen... You must not be watching Heat and the ton of suck that is Jindrak and Cade.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 A lot of the rave reviews Doug Basham and Damaja (Danny Basham) got were when they worked each other. However, I think a lot is due to the fact that they're playing second fiddle to their valet and the wretched "Shelton Benjamin in drag" storyline. Don't make the Eric Bischoff mistake of saying "A guy in black tights and black boots won't draw money", heh.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 ton of suck =/= average They just seem to be utterly average. Like if you put them in a tag match with Angle and Benoit, 9 times out of 10 you would get a *** match. But right now, though, average is better than 80% of the roster. Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Well, I don't trust rave reviews of developmental people after the Gail Kim debacle. I am comfortably uncaring about the Basham Brothers.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I think Doug is better than Danny, but the WWE have done a lot to make them seem boring, unimportant, and nothing mroe than JTTS.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Well, I don't trust rave reviews of developmental people after the Gail Kim debacle. I am comfortably uncaring about the Basham Brothers. Gail Kim was developmental. She did a few house shows, and then got stuck on TV. No time spent in OVW.
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted September 17, 2003 In their current state now, I don’t think much of them. In fact I don’t think about most of the crappy tag teams that are on both shows now. The Bashams, Frenchies, Cade/Jundrak, SHIT, Mack/Henry…they all suck. However, I do like the idea that someone on this board mentioned about the Bashams wearing S&M masks and using the old Killer Bees gimmick.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Doug Basham > Danny Basham I enjoyed Doug's couple of Velocity matches a while ago (before he came back in his current gimmick). Had 1 match against Shannon Moore, and drew good heel heat for a guy the crowd had probably never seen before. Used some nice moves, and showed some decent charisma. He seems to bump very well. I have no idea how he is on the mic, though. I would have preferred Doug to have come in as a single. On a personal note, I'd love to see a Doug/Kanyon match. I think that would be extremely fun. Not only would that fit with the idea that Shaniqua is a dominatrix, but Doug's character in OVW was the masked "Machine", based off the characters from 8MM and Pulp Fiction. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted September 17, 2003 That would be funny if their post match celebration involved, tying people up and putting a muzzle with a ball on their fallen opponents mouths. That would certainly get them over.
notJames 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I hate their half-assed approach to the S&M gimmick right now. Sure, Shaniqua gives them a few whacks with her riding crop, and she makes them lick her boots, and wow, their lame-ass finisher is called the "ball-and-gag". I better go buy my tickets now! (sigh) If they were serious about the gimmick, there are so many ways they could do it. Make them masochists in the ring. Have them absorb a ton of punishment from their opponents and come up smiling. Do the Gimp mask-Killer Bee switcheroo to the fullest. Have them do beatdowns after every match, each one more "sadistic" than the last. That kind of stuff will get a reaction from the crowd. The watered-down B&D bullshit they're doing now will only serve to keep them on Velocity once Shaniqua finally breaks away from them. And I like Polish's idea of "marking" their victims with a ball gag after every win. That shit would go over like gangbusters, especially in a video montage like the FBI's "Whacked" segment. Guest Jack Potts Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I think Doug Basham looks pretty crisp out there and has a deeper moveset than they are letting him demonstrate. I saw at least one of his Velocity matches and was very impressed. I have a gut feeling that if they let him cut loose in the ring, gave him a decent character to work with, and some mic time, he could get over fairly easily. The main problem with many of the new wrestlers is that the audience is never given a reason to care about them, which is very unfortunate. BTW, the Shaniqua=Shelton Benjamin crap is utterly ridiculous and degrading. Linda Miles has an athletic, lean, yet powerful look, but I don't find her face particularly masculine. The whole thing also seems borderline racist, playing on the they-all-look-alike belief. Linda Miles has much sharper features than Shelton Benjamin. If I were Ron Simmons, I'd slap the spit out of the writers for dragging me into the storyline, and then do the same to Bradshaw for seeming spewing this tripe with such enthusiasm. Silence 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 In the case of the Basham Brothers, it's the fourth time that I've actually seen the frontman of a tag team as the more talented wrestler of the team (Doug Basham. Booker T, Benoit, and Eddie Guerrero were the other wrestlers), rather than the sidekick partner being more talented (Matt Hardy, James Storm, Marty Jannety, Shelton Benjamin, Scott Steiner in his prime, etc.). Still, Doug should be allowed to do more and break off into a singles wrestler.
Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Shelton Benjamin may be called "Shaniqua" but he is not Charlie Haas's sidekick. Also in the 90s, Scott Steiner was never sidekick to Rick Steiner.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Bashams are okay, but they could be something special down the line. Sad Shaniqua is getting pushed though.
Silence 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Shelton Benjamin may be called "Shaniqua" but he is not Charlie Haas's sidekick. Also in the 90s, Scott Steiner was never sidekick to Rick Steiner. I'm basing this on which wrestler is in the ring first most of the time (and the majority of the time, Charlie Haas is in the ring first I think, just like Rick Steiner was when the Steiners were tagging). Guest thrall585 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 Who the fans care about means much more than who comes in first in the match in who is the sidekick of the team. So that isn't good to base it on.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2003 I like the Bashams, but then again, I'm biased because I've seen a little of their OVW stuff when Doug was The Machine and Danny was Damaja however they're working the WWE style so they're not at their best. And in their defense, they're were hella nice to fans *proudly has his picture hung up with himself with Doug and Danny And I'd rather see them the WWE tag title champs than fucking APA. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted September 18, 2003 Cornette released some OVW stuff on DVD called Superstars of the Future. You can now watch a bunch of OVW matches featuring Cena, Batista, Lesnar, Rico, Orton, Benjamin, Basham, and Damaja (Danny). I found it at Suncoast, but I haven't bought it yet. Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted September 18, 2003 They should just consolidate the 2 tag divisions into one because at this point with Shelton being injured, all the tag teams suck.
