tpww7 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Grabbing these from the ROH Board: BJ whitmer over Jimmy Rave in a solid opener with a top rope powerbomb... Next up is also a FOH match with Walters vs Xavier. Lollipop made her way to ringside before the match started. Xavier over Walters with a sloppy rollup... Xavier refused to shake hands and left with Lollipop... Walters grabbed the mic. And told Xavier that the handshake is about respect and that he doesn't respect him, the fans don't respect him, and he@ls not even sure if he respects himself and that things will be different the next time they get in the ring... Next up, special attraction match w/ TJ Wilson vs Teddy Hart... Teddy Hart over TJ wilson with a shooting star press... Decent match, but didn't seem to totally click. Wilson had most of the offense, with Hart countering with some nice submissions. Next up is the Punk/Raven Challenge... Steve Corino w/Veronica Stevens (Simply Luscious) & Guillotine LeGrande vs Raven... Introductions done by the official Zero One USA announcer, putting everybody over... In listing all the people Corino has beaten (including greats like Doink, Scotty Riggs, Razor Ramon) the announcer had to pause and get a drink of water. And ended it saying that if Jesus ever put on tights he'd beat him too. LOL great stuff! Raven doesn't look bad bald... Raven hit the DDT, but Punk pulled the ref out. Raven chased Punk thru the ring, only to get superkicked and pinned by Corino. Corino and Punk had words, which led to Corino smacking Punk and Punk leaving. Raven & Corino shook hands. Sabin vs Cabana vs Stryker vs styles up next... Great match... The interaction between Colt & Styles definitely made the fans want to see these guys against each other... Colt gets the win with a Colt 45 on Stryker. Cabana has great charisma... Deserves the push as he was the overall star of the match IMO. AJ is over huge. Intermission time... Return date to Philly is Dec. 27th. First match back is the tag team gauntlet series... Starting with the six-man with special K vs Carnage Crew. Special K over the Carnage Crew... CC had the win with razor's edge, neckbreaker combo, but Justin broke it up... To attempt a 2nd rope tombstone... The 2nd Special K team split it up and CC whipped them all with belts, causing the DQ. Briscoes are next. Briscoes win with a spiked Jay Driller... Good, short match... Ring Crew Express up next! Briscoes over Dunn & Marcos with a springboard doomsday device... Izzy & Dixie over the Briscoes with a springboard diamond dust type move. And the backseat noys are the new ROH Tag champions via the T Gimmick. After the match special K laid out the Backseats until the Briscoes made the save... Including Mark Briscoe doing a shooting star to the floor... Which brought out teddy hart who did a springboard twisting corkscrew somersault plancha (I don't think that did the move justice... Awesome spot!). Hart and the Briscoes all shook the backseats hands...

Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 The Backseat Boyz are now officially the kings of Philadelphia tag wrestling, and I for one am quite happy about that.
Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 The Backseat Boyz are rather an awesome Tag Team and I hope they go far as the Tag Team Champs. As for Colt Cabana winning, he NEEDED that win. He was against some top notch competition and took the match. Well done.
tpww7 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Alexis Laree farewell up next... As it's wrapping up, the lights go out and out comes Special K... They're about to do a number on alexis until Joey Matthews makes the save. Mathews puts her over and Alexis kisses him. Joey lays her out with a clothesline and invites Special K back in... They get ready to lay Alexis out with a chair until Slugga comes out. He gets into the ring and starts to clear house with the Rottweilers (Julius and some other guy). Leads to Alexis vs a member of Special K, which Alexis wins with a reverse DDT. The Rottweilers put over Alexis... Part 2 of the Raven/Punk challenge is up next. tpww7 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Funk over Punk by DQ???? During the match Punk took it to the outside and announced it was now a hardcore match and then gets DQ'd for not releasing a figure four after a 5 count?? Cabana came down to get Punk to release the hold and shoved Punk for beating up an old man... He then locked Funk in the figure four himself until Raven made the save... Punk and Cabana ran for it, with Punk escaping and Cabana getting stopped by TOMMY DREAMER. Funk hit a stunner on Cabana and all 3 men shook hands/hugged. Tommy got on the mic. And said that if Funk was wrestling in a place of honor he was gonna be right there with us watching the match and thanked Funk for all of his work in the business. tpww7 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Samoa Joe over Daniels with the Island Driver... Hot match that saw Joe kick out of the Angel's wings... Daniels tried to follow it up with the last rites, only to have it countered with a rear naked... Daniels barely made it to the ropes. He got up only to be kicked and nailed with the Island Driver... Crowd really wanted Daniels to wins this one... Great match! Daniels LOST???????? Damnit.

Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Y'know, when the card was announced I was like Daniels HAS to win, and thought that up until I read the results. However, since reading them I have decided I LOVE the finish. Joe desperately needed a big win to legitimize his title reign. Wins over guys like BJ Whitmer were nice but this is huge. This win does more than anything else to make Joe a credible champ. Now he's the unstoppable monster for sure. If DANIELS can't beat him for that belt than who can?!? When someone does pin Joe in the middle of the ring it's going to mean something and that's awesome. This move was big in giving legitimacy to Joe and the ROH title, so huge congrats to the ROH booking team here.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 If you think about it...it was the most logical ending. Daniels doesn't come to every show, unlike Samoa Joe, add to the fact that everyone expected Daniels to win, I guess Gabe had to swerve everybody and keep it on Joe. Maybe I'm analyzing too much. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Definitely thrilled to see the Backseats win. I had assumed it'd come down to Special K vs. Special K, that way ROH would give us a match we hadn't seen, AND put the belts on one of it's main projects. Agreed on the Dreamer apperances, once was a huge shock, the second time was awesome, but a third one within the year...eh. Shock value is one thing, but they run the risk of having the audience expect it, or not care about it when it happens so often. Joe won. That certainly would have taken the wind out of my sails. It was a good move to give him a win over a major star, but I'm a Joe detractor, what can I say.

tpww7 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Notes from the show last night via Mike Johnson of 1wrestling. Notes: The promotion dodged a major bullet as they were contacted late Friday by the local fire marshal who informed them there was an anonymous complaint about the size of the crowds at ROH's events at the Murphy Recreation Center. The Marshall informed the promotion that if they went beyond 400 fans in the building, the show would be shut down immediately. As you could imagine, having a show shut down would be crippling to the promotion's health, so it was stress city in the ROH offices. About 200 fans waited outside hoping to get in, but ROH was unable to allow the fans entry until the marshal arrived. While the fans were waiting, ROH sent a number of performers, including the Backseat Boyz, Samoa Joe, and Jimmy Jacobs out to thank them for the support and to ask them to hang in there. The actual "main show" started 30 minutes late as the promotion was trying to work out the situation. PA State Athletic Commission official Frank Talent went to bat in a major way for the promotion when the fire marshal arrived and the fans were eventually allowed into the building. The promotion was very thankful that there were so many fans that were willing to wait for a chance to support the product. The feeling internally with ROH was that another promotion had phoned in a complaint in an attempt to sabotage the show as the report was phone in. The marshal acknowledged the situation was "shady." It certainly looks like no one has learned from the mistakes of the promotional rivalries from last year that left Philadelphia crowds down and several promotions defunct. ROH really has no choice but to seek out a larger venue, because next time, they may not end up with such a positive ending to a situation like this one....WWE's Zach Gowen and Steven Richards were backstage visiting at the show....As if the promotion didn't have enough stress, they found out the day of the show the company they contracted for their lighting had gone out of business, and had to scramble to find a new lighting company and get them set up in time for the show....Philadelphia FOX affiliate channel 29 was at the show with a camera crew, filming a feature that will air in November during sweeps....They reconfigured the building setup for this show and announced a 12/27 return to Philadelphia at the Murphy Recreation Center....There was a huge "F*ck you Jasmin" chant at the onset of the show from the fans as word was going around that there was 3PW involvement in the fire marshal situation, which is not something that is confirmed. There has been heat between the two promotions in the past....
