Guest Crush Fan 93 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 Has any body heard any talk of any Survivor matches for this year's event? I'm a big fan of the old format and I don't see why they have opted to phase out the old format completely (based on last year's SS). It's a shame to see them give up on something that could be entertaining if done right and also adds something special to a PPV that, otherwise, would just feel like any other IYH (or whatever you want to classify those PPVs as). Although the WWE probably won't do it because it is too obvious, I think a Smackdown vs. RAW Series would be excellent and would be an added incentive to buy the PPV, rather than the same old crap. Maybe even have the Ultimate Survivor match like they did in the second ever SS. (For those who don't know, all the heel winners faced all the face winners in a final match to determine the overall winners of Survivor Series). Tack on a stipulation, such as the winning show gets the main event for Wrestlemania and it would tie into the year-long hype for Wrestlemania that they are so far effectively implementing. The Smackdown vs. RAW format is almost a no-brainer and it would further the identity of each brand as unique. They could also further some storylines by putting enemies on the same team and forcing them to work together, only to see some enemies can't keep their differences aside. Maybe break it up into teers such as a woman's match, a tag match, mid card match, main event level match, and then the final survior match. Anywhoo, enough of my poop, did anybody hear anything? The Amazing Rando 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 no... but the Main Event for WM is already part of the Rumble deal... it's "shot at your champ in the main event of Mania"
Guest Crush Fan 93 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I know they used that stip last year, but has it been established as part of 2004's Rumble already?
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 Shit, you don't need to bother with screwing up the Rumble. Just put on some good inter-brand matches that people would like to see. They can even be non-title. You can't tell me this card wouldn't draw: Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg Kurt Angle vs. Triple H Undertaker vs. Kane Dudley Boyz vs. La Resistance vs. TSPWGTT vs. Los Guerreros Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho John Cena vs. Booker T Big Show and A-Train vs. Kevin Nash and Scott Steiner RVD and HBK vs. Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman

Guest Crush Fan 93 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I don't know what I was thinking when I said about having the winning brand getting the main at WM. I never really considered the fact that the winner of the Rumble should logically get the main event slot. A card of inter-promotional matches is a good idea but do you want to waste it on Survivour Series which already has a unique formula. Personally, I think they should resurrect the Clash of the Champions. I"m sure they could badger Spike TV into giving them a time slot four times (or two or, hell, even once) a year. It would have a big-event feel to it but it would obviously be free. It would probably reel in some non-fans if they see a big event being given away for free on TV. I still say revive KOTR and do an NCAA March Madness-type tournament for the two brands. -=Mike
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 The problem with doing an interpromotional deal now is that the winner would be seen as the best show, meaning that the marks wouldn't give a shit about the losing show.
KTID 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 they give a shit about either show now?
The Tino Standard 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2003 I think we're at the point now where the core fans are going to watch each show, no matter what. Losing one PPV wouldn't somehow kill the ratings. People aren't watching one show or the other because the perceive it as being the more-talented roster. Then again, WWE writers would never think this way, which would mean a PPV with matches between brands would be a night full of non-finishes.

Guest Crush Fan 93 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 A Clash of the Champs format would not necessarily have one brand looking better than the other. For example, the Heavyweight Champ does not need to face the Heavyweight Champ of the other show. Actually, they should not at all, this would be too big for TV. You would have RAW's champ facing SD's US Champ or whatever. So it's not like you would have two equals fighting and one show would have their star taken down a notch. I have to say I never did watch WCW when the Clash was still on the go (my part of Canada did not carry it). Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure every match did not have to involve a champ vs. a champ. There would be countless possibilities for matches.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted September 25, 2003 I say just have 3 Raw Normal Matches (world, IC and Womens) 3 SD (wwe, Tag, US title) and two survivor Matches... or just two World title MATCHES and 4 Survivor matches... world title:HHH vs GB WWE Title: Brock Vs Eddy Raw survivor #1 Chris Jericho, Christian, Orton and Flair Vs RVD, Dudley Boyz Raw Survivor #2 Test, Mack, Henry, Richards, Vs Hurricane, Rosey, Goldust and Storm SD Survior #1 Angle, Benoit, Mysterio and Kidman Vs Cena, A-Train, Haas and Benjamin SD Survivor #2 Taker, Spanky, Knoble and Jordan Vs TBS, Rhyno, Tajiri and Matt Hardy
Aero 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 Personally, I'd do this... WWE Title: Brock vs. Eddie RAW Survivor Match: HHH, Ric Flair, & Randy Orton vs. Goldberg, HBK, & Maven RAW Survivor Match: Jericho, Christian, Test, & La Resistance vs. Booker T, Steiner, RVD, & Dudleys SD Survivor Match: Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Benoit, & Zach Gowen vs. Cena, Big Show, Rhyno, & A-Train SD Survivor Match: Mysterio, Kidman, Ultimo Dragon, & Spanky vs. WGTT, Tajiri, & Matt Hardy Kane vs. Steve Austin -------------------------- Maybe throw in a womens match or something. We all know that the Kane push has seemingly gone to hell, so why not have him destroy Austin in a No DQ match or something. Although he isn't a wrestler, they still treat Austin as if he still were. I don't think it matters that all the tags are mixed up with numbers.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 I think that Wrestlemania, Summerslam, and Survivor Series should all be supercards every year. They could make Survivor Series the inter-brand PPV and let the big stories climax at Wrestlemania. What I'd actually do with the SS main event even though it would be a little bit of a non-finish would be to have Vince try to help Brock, only to have Austin come out and give Brock a stunner. The ref would see the stunner and disqualify Goldberg, starting the tension between Goldberg and Austin that would eventually lead to the main event at WM XX. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 But who does Vince, Stephanie, Shane and Linda fight then? I won't be shocked if Survivor Series has a match for Shane, Stephanie AND Vince. The Survivor Series format would be an interesting way to showcase all of the wrestlers but I don't see them using it anymore.
Guest Crush Fan 93 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 The only rationale that I can see the WWE using to justify not having Survivor matches is that they feel that the fans do not want them? (I know, I know, some may say the opposite). Personally I like them, but am I alone? I know they are longer matches, so for the average fan it may get dragged out. But, the fact that it is a unique event kind of creates a mystique (is that the right term?) around the matches. How does everyone else feel about the Survivor match as a concept? Should they scrap it or use it?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2003 I enjoyed them, it gave me a chance to see new talent and some old favorites. Plus, without those matches then we would need a new angle to introduce THE UNDERTAKER and considering the angles back in those days, who knows how badly things might have went. Maybe they feel the Survivor Series matches represent the old WWF?
