sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2003 Yeah and I hope all those bandwagon Florida "fans" enjoy it because they're gonna need some serious luck to get past Prior and Wood. Not taking anything away from Beckett, but this game should've been a blowout by the Marlins, with the number one guy going against the recently shaky number three guy. Hopefully they'll get it done on Tuesday, because my nerves can't handle a possible game seven at this point. No kidding. The Marlins don't even know who's starting game 6 for them...that isn't going to help anything. Prior + a rowdy Wrigley crowd should make for a very tough predicament for the Marlins. I'm just thankful Beckett won't pitch again in this series. Florida is seriously lucky they weren't swept in this series. Give them credit for bouncing back time and time again in game 1, but they were only one or two pitches away from losing that one, and thus the series. I like the Marlins, but I think the run is over. Obviously you never say never, but as I've said before, their chances aren't real good.

MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2003 baseball really isn't meant to be played in the rain though. the ball becomes tough to grip for the pitchers, the field gets sloppy and dangerous.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2003 This just in: George Steinbrenner calls Pope John Paul II, revokes the Vatican's season tickets. This helps Boston in a BIG way in that it allows for Derek Lowe to pitch at Fenway, where he's extremely effective.
Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 With the Cubs losing, and the Red Sox/Yanks being cancelled, this has been one lousy day for baseball.
Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 I realize that Boston thinks it has an advantage now, with Wakefield able to go instead of Grandpa Burkett in Game 4, and D-Lowe pitching in Fenway instead of somewhere else. However: 1) Wakefield is the streakiest pitcher alive. 2) You now have to figure out whether Pedro should go in Games 6 or 7. 3) You're giving David Wells another solid night to drink. The more shitfaced Wells is, the better he throws.
MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 I'd put Pedro in for Game 6 to help even get to a freakin' Game 7.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 Well, given the setup of the Red Sox pitching (Pedro and Lowe, and pray for snow) this obviously helps their chances. Hopefully this also gives the teams a chance to cool off after yesterday's discraceful performance.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 Just a thought. If it goes 7, how great a story would it be to see Roger Clemens put his career on his line against the Boston Red Sox?
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted October 13, 2003 I hate Clemens and to see him lose his last game vs. the Sox would be pure beauty.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 According to espnnews, Wakefield is pitching game 4, followed by Lowe, miscellaneous, and Pedro for game 7.

Sandman9000 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 Misc. has to be somebody, and odds are it'll end up being Burkett there. Unless both Wakefield and D-Lowe lose.

sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 Can you really be lucky to not be swept if you've won at least two games in a series? And really the Cubs are just as lucky that they won Game 3. It's not usually luck if you win two games in a series, I'll give you that. But if the Marlins hadn't scraped by in game 1 (i.e. the Cubs kept handing them the game and they kept giving it right back), there would have been no game 5 for them to win. There was nothing at all "lucky" about last night. Give Beckett all the credit in the world for absolutely manhandling what had been a red-hot offense. The Cubs did have a couple of breaks go their way in game 3, I agree. But that was a horrible play by Conine in the 11th; sloppy defense like that will earn you no sympathy from me if it costs you the game.
