Kaertos Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I can't believe there isn't a thread on this yet. This trailer has me even more excited to see the movie than I already was. This looks to be one of the best movies ever made and some of the images in the trailer are just incredible. I was blown away...
cabbageboy Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I saw a crappy download online, it seemed pretty cool. I'd like to see it in a theater or on TV to judge better though. And yes, the movie is going to rule.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I started one when it originally leaked but I was held down for some stupid reason. Anyways, yeah. The movie is going to be good. Really really good. I think a lot of purists are afraid to admit that this movie could be *the one*, even though from what we've seen in the trailer, it's quite possible.
Mole Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Well it depends which trailer you saw. I like the one on the Two Towers DVD better than the online one.
Kahran Ramsus Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 Enjoy it. We probably won't see another movie going experience like the LOTR Trilogy for a long time to come. Return of the King was my favourite of the books.
Guest Razor Roman Posted October 1, 2003 Report Posted October 1, 2003 I'm psyched for the movie - but the trailer didn't get me any more psyched. don't know why. There's a great quality QuickTime version of it HERE But make sure you've got a high speed connection
DARRYLXWF Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I've never been so fired up about a movie than this one. And I pray that it wins best picture. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I'm also interested in seeing how they structure the film differently to the book, and how far they seperate the actual crowning of Aragorn from the ending of the film, whether or not they'll include the majority of the last battle in the shire, or merely just present it as a wasteland with Sauruman as the official 'chief', leading to his quick death. The ship sailing away into the west should also be a winner.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 (edited) If this movie doesn't get best picture I doubt I'll ever watch the Oscars again. My reasoning for it not winning in 2001 was that it was going to be saved for a trilogy, as TTT was not the best movie in 2002 by a long shot. Warning: The following spoiler gives away the beggining and end of the movie~! Proceed w/ fucking serious caution!~ Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The Scouring of The Shire isn't in the movie. However, Jackson has stolen a page from it and made the showdown between Grima and Saruman take place at Orthanc. Grima stabs Saruman from behind in front of the fellowship, then lunges at Aragorn who ducks and Grima falls off Orthanc. The end of the movie is the hobbits returning to a happy, normal Shire, w/ Frodo proceeding to the Grey Havens soon afterwards, along w/ Bilbo and Gandalf. There have been no plans so far to include the Hobbits stay in Rivendell. Edited October 2, 2003 by Lord of The Curry
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 So will this one finally win the big one. Or is it going to get overlooked for a third time b/c it's not some sappy drama?
kkktookmybabyaway Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Adding to LOTC's post, I'll be curious to see how they fit the rest of the story into one movie. I'm not an expert on this trilogy, but didn't the Two Towers movie end before the Two Tower's book did?...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Slightly. They left out the cliffhanger ending that the book had.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Slightly. They left out the cliffhanger ending that the book had. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): They also left out The Fellowship and The Rohirrhim riding to Isengard w/ Gandalf and meeting Treebeard and the finding of the Palantir, which we see at the begining of Return of The King.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 If it's as great as everyone is saying it should be, then it will without a doubt be nominated. However, you better hope for a weak year of Oscar caliber movies. If there's strong competition, I don't see it winning unless it's amazingly great.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I personally don't think either of the other two was an Oscar calibre movie, and I hope they don't give this one an Oscar just to satiate the salivating fanboys who think this is the Godfather trilogy or something.
Guest SP-1 Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I disagree, Hogan. Few movies are on the sheer scale of LOTR. Very few. This is one of the most timeless stories ever written, and the films had a tremendous amount of TLC put into them and they show it. It's their time to shine.

There have been no plans so far to include the Hobbits stay in Rivendell. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Hmmm, that's quite a big difference. Part of the reason I liked the way Tolkien presented the death Saruman was that it provoked a little sympathy from the reader for grima wormtongue, giving him a sort of redeeming quality. Anyway, the final scene (assuming its the boat sailing off into the west), accompanied with some emotional music, hopefully will bring out the tears in me.
El Psycho Diablo Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I wish they'd put the six-hour cut they had a while back on the EE. They won't, but it should be interesting to see what they add..as it's got a reported three and a half-hour running time already.
Anakin Flair Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 It will never win an Oscar. Oscars are one big political game, and it WILL get overlooked by some sappy drama....
Lord of The Curry Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I don't know, Mole. Chicago recieved some backlash for winning, as did A Beautiful Mind the year before. Seems that whenever a movie beats out Lord of The Rings people get pissed. Here's hoping Hollywood gives PJ and Co. their due and sets things right this March.
Kaertos Posted October 2, 2003 Author Report Posted October 2, 2003 I'd like to see it, but I have so given up on the Oscars that I don't really care all that much. Which is too bad because i used to really enjoy them... But regardless, I am looking forward to sitting down with this movie in a couple of months and being blown away. This is the only movie coming up I am letting myself have expectations for, because I am pretty sure I will not be disappointed.
LaParkaYourCar Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 (edited) I disagree, Hogan. Few movies are on the sheer scale of LOTR. Very few. I don't think I've seen a more well put together movie in my whole life. People can write it off because they're just too impatient to sit through a long movie, but nothing has had this epic of a feel to it in a long time. Just watching Two Towers gave me goosbumps. I am so ready to see Return of the King. EDIT: And I've never even read the books. Edited October 2, 2003 by LaParkaYourCar
Guest El Satanico Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Well as long as LOTR doesn't lose to a totally inferior film I don't see it as that big of a deal. Say what you will, but A Beautiful Mind and Chicago were both worthy winners. Last year I was more disappointed about Gollum not getting a nomination, than I was about anything involving Two Towers and Best Picture.
The Dames Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I'm on a sad 56k and I'm not about to download the ROTK trailer. Can anyone answer this question for me please... Is Shelob (big Giant spider) shown in the trailer? If so, how does it look? Dames
Mik Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Yes, it's shown briefly. Too briefly to get a good look but from what I thought...not too scary.
The Dames Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Well, I'm an arachnaphobic and the fact that there's a Giant Spider in the movie is going to FUCK ME UP...so I just wanted to know what to expect. Dames
Damaramu Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I'm not expert on the Book Trilogy(which is shocking since i am such a D&D nerd) but wasn't the constant bombardment of Aragorn/Arwen crap not even in the books? I hate how they keep promoting her as a main character....especially in the first one when she beat the Black Riders...it wasn't her...it was her father and Gandalf who conjured up the river....and it wasn't even her who saved Frodo. The riders should've gutted her bitch ass right there to save us all this crap.
pochorenella Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 Guys, the movie hasn't even been released yet and you're already calling for it to win a Best Picture Oscar? That's what I call faith. But you're right, the Oscars are all politics most of the time. I felt like smashing my TV set when Saving Private Ryan didn't win for Best Picture.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I felt like smashing my TV set when Saving Private Ryan didn't win for Best Picture. Saving Private Ryan? oh please What was nominated that year, because a weak year for Oscar caliber films is the only way SPR was the best movie that year. SPR was a mediocre war movie with a great 20 minute opening sequence.
Lord of The Curry Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 I would've much preferred a Thin Red Line win over a SPR win in the Oscars that year. El Satanico- You didn't think that The Pianist or Gangs deserved to win at all? I can't justify a Chicago win under any circumstances, especially when it should never have recieved the amount of nominations it did. The ironic/odd thing is that Richard Gere didn't get a nomination and his performance was the best in the whole movie.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 2, 2003 Report Posted October 2, 2003 El Satanico- You didn't think that The Pianist or Gangs deserved to win at all? I never said that There's almost always multiple nominated films that deserve to win Best Picture. Of course The Pianist and Gangs deserved to win, but that doesn't mean that Chicago didn't or that it wasn't a worthy winner. Pianist or Chicago should've won before Gangs.
