Fantasy NBA League?

Recommended Posts

let's play How Did I Draft?

1. Dirk - Started off slow, but hes coming around..

2. Zydrunas Ilgauskas - traded away, probably not a smart move.

3. Baron Davis - took off early, hit the injury wall over the last month.

4. Rip Hamilton - decent for a 4th round pickup..

5. Caron Butler - uh..he was hurt and I dumped him.

6. TJ Ford - lots of assists, not much of anything else..

7. Juwan Howard - probably my best steal of the draft

8. Derek Anderson - dumped him after I got tired of waiting on him to come back

9. Lorenzen Wright - dumped him.

The main core of my draft is in place, and I think that Camby, Brown, Rose and Wade are improvements over the 4 players that I dropped from my draft.

And damnit, Jalen Rose is out over a month after surgery on his hand. I just went ahead and dropped him because A)His replacement (Morris Peterson is available and has 19pts so far tonight in his absense) B) I could have to wait forever to put him on IL, and by then Peterson could be picked up C) If Rose does come back that fast (a month) I'll only have about 2 weeks before the playoffs, and by then it might not even matter.

My league gets pretty decent activity, at least compared to the other leagues I'm in. It's mostly me and my friends, and some people that my friends know, but there's a couple of guys from the board in it.

But, uhm, yeah... active leagues are always better.

Hey Wildchild, that invation applies for you as well if you'd like.

#1: Yao Ming: Frustratingly inconsistent. Traded.

#2: Pau Gasol: Underrated, but simply didn't score enough. Traded.

#3: Ron Artest: A risk that payed off since he kept his temper in check. Traded, but begrudginly.

#4: Lamar Odom: Played like crap at the begining of the season, so I dropped him. As soon as I do that, he starts playing ball. Motherhusser.

#5: Tony Parker: Started the season on IL, solid point guard but didn't provide enough in the stats category all around. Traded.

#6: Damon Stoudamire: A lot better then I planned on him being, leading my team in assists. Only person on my team whom I haven't moved.

#7: Darko Milicic: Stupid Larry Brown. Waived.

#8: Jamaal Tinsley: Wasn't playing at the begining of the season. Waived, but reacquired in a trade.

#9: Vin Baker: Good when he was sober. Waived.

I managed to draft enough #2-#3-ish guys, but was just lacking all around. That I started the season with three people who weren't playing didn't help.

For fun: everyone who has been on my team at some point during the year:

Yao Ming, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, Tony Parker, Damon Stoudamire, Darko Milicic, Jamaal Tinsley, Vin Baker, Robert Horry, Jerome Williams, Derek Fisher, Charlie Ward, Jeff McInnis, Jeff Foster, Damon Jones, Ronald Murray, Bo Outlaw, Michael Finley, Devean George, Jermaine O'Neal, Tayshaun Prince, Earl Boykins, Dion Glover, Brian Grant, Darius Miles, DeShawn Stevenson, Kwame Brown, Penny Hardaway, Raja Bell, Maurice Taylor, Howard Eisley, Speedy Claxton, and possibly Voshon Lenard.

I went through the history to do that, and I've never had Lenard.

I've tried to get him a couple times, but failed.

On that note, can everyone stay out of this one so I can get him now? I'll either give you a cookie or not smack you with a lighttube.

My draft was pretty bad other than my first pick, but i've somewhat saved it with trades and free agent pickups.

1st- Kevin Garnett: God in basketball playing form.

2nd- Jason Terry: Dissapointing, eventually traded for Ray Allen.

3rd- Jerry Stackhouse: Injured like the day after the draft, only just came back.

4th- Kenyon Martin: Been pretty good for me.

5th- Glenn Robinson: Inujred for the first quarter of the year, played shit for the next quarter, and of course finally got good just as i traded him in the Ray Allen deal.

6th- Alonzo Mourning: Retired on me.

7th- Doug Christie: Stat-less bum.

8th- Tim Thomas: Decent player, until also traded him for Ray Allen.

9th- Chris Bosh: Needed a center, so i dropped him for Stromile Swift. Swift does shit, and Bosh becomes center-eligible anyway to spite me.

Quentin Richardson, Nene and recently Derek Anderson have all saved my ass since i picked them up. A shame i dropped Marcus Camby right after i picked him up with how good he's been lately though. Looks like i stuck with the wrong Nuggets center.

I had issues with Drew Gooden who I drafted "early". So after weeks of inconsistency I dropped him and restructed his contract to some 10 day deals then tried to trade him but had no luck so I cut him for good. What was I thinking when I drafted 2 Orlando Magic players? Gooden and Giricek has done nothing worthy decent this season.

Homer pick of Malik Rose went nowhere as he somehow made the coaching staff angry and lost his game time to Robert Horry, Devin Brown, Turkoglu.

The starting line up of:

Sam Cassel - Who is a steal, and will lead the T-Wolves to the West Finals!

Paul Pierce - Mr. All Around Playa.

Rasho Nestovic - Blocks shots and thats about it, well, I need a Spur damn it.

Carmelo Anthony - This year's Rookie of the Year

Shareef Abdul Rahem - Was a monster on the boards and at the line, not sure what will happen when he moves West.

Made a few trades:

Melo & Kwame Brown for Ricky Davis & Carlos Boozer - I needed a real CENTER so I was desperate, it worked out eventually.

Brian Grant for Jerome Williams - I needed to dump Grant and was willing to take any offer.

Voshon Lenard for Rafer Alton - I was scared of the injury and was desperate for assists so I made the deal.

I think the only person that I wished that I had not dropped would be Jim Jackson of the Rockets who is having a great season but I think I picked up Voshon Lenard who did well as the 3 point shooter.

Well we all made some bad draft picks. But I drafted SCOTTIE PIPPEN and TONI KUKOC back to back. And indeed, it wasn't 1996 all over again. There was also a time where Odom was a Free agent and I said to myself "Nah, better hold onto Toni, he's gonna give me some good minutes" 4 games and 5 points later, I decided it was probably a not so great move as Odom became mister double double.

I have most of my original team. Jason Kidd, Peja, Eddie Jones, Amare Sotudemire and his amazing never healing ankle and in my opinion the steal of the draft overall, Brad Miller. I knew triple double numbers were coming with Kidd, but Miller?! Never. Kidd has been solid as usual, Peja has been insanely good for me in a number of stats, Eddie Jones will always give you 10 plus points, a few assists, a few rebounds and a few steals, and Amare would be a beast if his ankle would just fall off already.

Kirk Hinrich has also turned into a poor man's Jason Kidd as he's good for double digit points and a high assist total every night plus surprisingly competent rebounding. Antonio Davis is inconsistent but I'm more than likely gonna get 10 and 10 than his occasional 4 and 6 numbers. MOUNT MUTOMBO...well...sucks. But he still can block some shit, so I'll keep around for now. And of course Bobby Jackson who shoots so damn much that he becomes an asset just because I know he'll end up getting his. Of course, if Field goal percentage was involved...well...yeah, he'd be useless.

I'm content with my team. We were able to knot up the king of the mountain last week and that was without Amare for a few games, so we're contenders.

I think I've got a good shot at making the 7-12 squad and taking it. I mean, with my team the way it is, I'm just flooring the opposition.

...I'll have to wait for my week against Guerreros (next week) to get a good judge of it.

Up 6-2 on SHIT and with a 9-6 player advantage for the rest of the week (players which include Garnett, Allen and Stackhouse), so i should win no problem. Now if only Team Failure can win his matchup i might be able to jump up to 4th place. Combine that with only facing two teams with winning records from now on and i should be in good position for the playoffs. Though i don't particularly like my chances of going far after both the Guerreros and Team 2004 both stomped the shit out of me 8-0 not long ago.

01. Pierce, Paul

I picked him ahead of Kobe Bryant. I figured Kobe would miss alot of games this year because of his whole case, but he is also missing alot because of injuries, so I turned out looking pretty smart on that one. Pierce is putting up great numbers as usual too.

02. Stojakovic, Peja

A steal in the 2nd round. Someone actually picked Dough Christie before Peja, heh. He's a MVP canadate and puts up huge numbers nightly.

03. Rose, Jalen

He put up solid numbers in Chicago, and even better in Toronto. Good pick, but he's current on the IR.

04. Billups, Chauncey

He's very very good all year long.

05. Miller, Brad

I really liked Miller last year, and I am pleasantly happy hes getting all the starts in Sac town. He's a very good center and averages a double double every night.

Rest of the picks:

06. Wells, Bonzi

07. Thomas, Tim

08. Mason, Desmond

09. Delk, Tony - Traded.

10. Boozer, Carlos

11. Jackson, Stephen

12. Swift, Stromile - Traded.

13. Radmanovic, Vladimir

14. McCarty, Walter - Taded.

15. Giricek, Gordan

On the team, who wasn't drafted: Earl Boykins, Dalembert, Samuel, and Murray, Ronald.

My record in that league is 125-54-1, 2nd place. (Was in 1st the whole season til about 3 weeks ago).

The other league:

01. Pierce, Paul

I picked him ahead of Kobe Bryant, AGAIN. :P

02. Stojakovic, Peja

A steal in the 2nd round, AGAIN. Someone picked Chris Webber ahead of him.

03. Carter, Vince

Took a gamble with Carter. Payed off greatly.

04. Thomas, Kurt

Been a very good, all star deserving center all year.

05. Cassell, Sam

Big time 5th round steal. Cassell has been GREAT.

Rest of the picks:

06. Artest, Ron

07. Richardson, Jason

08. Divac, Vlade

09. Person, Wesley -Traded.

10. Maggette, Corey

11. Jackson, Jim - Traded.

12. Kukoc, Toni - Dropped.

13. Thomas, Kenny

On the team who wasn't drafted: Dalembert, Samuel, Williams, Eric and Randolph, Zach.

Been in 1st place all year.

Just so you know people, anyone returning from this season will have quite an interesting opportunity.

I'm thinking of invoking a two-three player keeper rule. Meaning you automatically keep two-three players from your current team for next season.

The downside this? You lose your top two-three draft picks. Also, you can't go "well, I wanna keep one of them", you only get all or none. And there will be selected day for whom you can choose. On top of this, there will be a selected date for when or when not you can select going option a or option b. So say I select Jason Terry as a keeper and he goes down before the draft, I'm stuck with him as that is whom I choosed! And you also might miss the opportunity of making a steal of a life time, in case, someone like Glenn Robinson is available.

To any newcomers, you automatically will be placed ahead of other people in the draft. However, it will be random lottery style (I'll do the lottery myself, since I'm, after all, a fair sorta of guy). To those who remain for next season you will be placed according to where you placed in the rankings (so if you are say, last place, you are first among returners).

So what you think of that? Anyone agree or disagree with the above propositions? Good, bad, ugly?

Just something to say to pass the time.

Keeping players sounds tempting, but I think I'll start with a clean slate next year. My best two players (Randolph and Artest) I think can slide into the second or possibly even the third round.

BTW Cuban, remember, you have to choose two players or none at all.

Also remember, this is still not finalized, because we don't know who places where. Or who ends up joining. So if we've got 20 teams, I might just cancel keeping players or slap it down to a single player.

Also the lineup to be determined for categories for next season:

FG%

FG

FT%

FT

3PT%

3PT%

PTS

ASTS

REBS

STLS

TOS

FOULS

BLKS

Those are the supposed categories for next year. This is still up in the air. It's a total of 13. So we don't end up with 4-4 ties (although, that's not a bad thing).

Once again, the draft will be offline. Just because it was so much fun this previous time. :)

I hate the categories where lower is better or the % categories. If you start a bunch of players to pad the regular stats, your opponent can just hold back and try to sneak away with the % stats, Fouls and Turnovers and you can end up losing 5 points right there most of the time. Your % are likely to be low unless you specifically draft a high% shooting team. The other team shouldn't be able to just hold back because they see they are getting creamed early in the week just so they can sneak away with 5 points instead of playing out the week and not getting any points.

I would just stick with the 8 categories we have now.

Also I would Keep Marbury and Wallace.

I really think you should switch to a rotisserie format. In basketball, its common for one player to have two games in a week while another player has four. This creates a drastic advantage/disadvantage in head-to-head competition. I don't think basketball works well for a week-by-week basis.

Maybe not, maybe so. If that's what the people want for next season, we can go with that.

However, I'm not too sure how rot works. Anyone care to explain for the uneducated?

We did rotisserie format last year and it killed interest fast. I believe the weekly basis format has more pros than cons which keeps the league competitive.

If there was going to be a roisserie league it better have every damn stat possible, all of the % stats, offense & defense rebounds, assist-to-turnover ratio, fouls...........EVERYTHING!

Of course I see no reason why there can't be more than one league going at once.

*shrugs* I can do up two different ones next season, if everyone agrees to doing both leagues.

However, if we do a rot league, it is straight up anyone's game. Drafting will e the exact same as this season.

Actually, I'm putting a spin on the draft. You CAN trade a player for a draft pick. Say someone's got the #1 draft pick and you trade them, *shrugs* Kobe Bryant. Only works for the players you have and only the first two rounds.

Does that sound feesible to everyone? This way, top drafting players can pick up some might fine trades?

And should it be 2 or 3 people keeping? I'm adding a few more slots to the roster (I'm thinking another bench and another utility), so imput on keeping and this is requested.
