BifEverchad 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 While watching the tag Main Event on SmackDown! tonight, I thought about the build towards No Mercy... Which got me to thinking, why did they have to take the belt off of Kurt, when they very well could have kept it on him, and paired him with John Cena (same as now), but have it was a top notch, higher tier feud. This could get Cena over (especially working with Angle) as a higher card worker, while still keeping the Brock/Taker match as a co-Main Event match. I guess the 'Taker wasn't 'feelin' it"...again. Styles 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 -Brock needed a title win after being made Angle's bitch several times to rebuild him. -Cena isn't exactly seen as WWE title level, and if the plan is for Cena to beat Angle, they don't have to do an odd title change. -Undertaker probably requested another title match. There's your answers.

There's your answers. Brock didn't need a title win after being made Angle's bitch, he needed a slow build to restore credibility. Being shot directly back to the top of the heap isn't exactly the best way to do it, especially when he was convincingly beat by Angle twice.
Austin3164life 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 Brock needed a title win to look like a strong monster heel, so an uber-face like Undertaker can face him at No Mercy. Angle built up more credibility as a veteran main eventer, thus being able to help elevate John Cena in a feud. Cena beat Undertaker, and is slowly building his main event status and getting better. Papacita 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2003 Brock didn't need the title when he got it. They could've done much better with him if they continued to run with the whole psychotic angle they had going with him. He taps once again in the Iron Man match to Angle, snaps, beats up and injures Kurt, injures Vince, starts randomly interfereing in matches, get everyone pissed at him, then have Taker get the first chance to attempt and slay the unstoppable monster. He'd have gotten over big if they'd done that. As for Cena/Angle...they would have to put the US title onto Cena in order for a World Title match to work. Cena couldn't have gone into a ME so soon after a loss to Eddie.

Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 I would say that Brock looked pretty good against Angle by NOT tapping out even when he KNEW he couldn't get out of the hold. But he DID need a proper victory over SOMEONE.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 So Brock's been in the company a year and is a 3 time champion. Is that really necessary?

Cena couldn't have gone into a ME so soon after a loss to Eddie. I think that sums it up nicely why Cena/Angle isn't for the belt. This feud will probably last a long while and end with Cena taking Angle and offering to shake his hand. Which would lead to Cena/Brock and Angle/Vince at WM. Wait, that sorta makes sense so that can't be it.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 Last year at Unforgiven Taker was scheduled to job clean to Lesnar in the main event, but Taker used his backstage swing to change the finish to a DQ. "I'm not feelin' it" was the response Taker gave when the bookers told him about the clean finish.

Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted October 4, 2003 i thought brock was in the company for 2 years, but whatever. It's been about 19 months now. He debuted early 2002, just before Wrestlemania, and in time for the brand extension, although he hadn't wrestled at that point.

Actually, he debuted the night after WM X-8, killing poos Spike Dudley with the Triple Powerbomb during a hardcore match. Oddly enough, he didn't even try to win the hardcore belt, even though he killed everybody involved in the match as well

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 So lets look at the card so far: Brock Lesnar Vs. The Undertaker for the WWE Championship again, looks to be stipulationless also. - I dont mind, check. Kurt Angle Vs. John Cena - I like it. Check. Eddie Guerrero Vs. The Big Show for the United States Title - What the hell? Check. Chris Benoit Vs. A-Train - What the fuck? Check. Stephanie McMahon Vs. Vince McMahon in an "I Quit" match - What the flying fuck gave them the idea we wanted to PAY to see this crap?!! Check. Yeah, No Mercy's going to suck ass. Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 It's not going to suck, Eddy vs Big Show will be entertaining due to the obscene amounts of cheating involved, Benoit vs A-Train will be much better then people think and Brock vs Taker could go either way, but Taker is on a hot streak lately so I'll say it should be good. They may throw in a cruiserweight clusterfuck too, so that will be spot-tastic.

I thought it was because he told someone in the back (maybe a Basham or someone green) 'you gotta feel it!' That was Chris Benoit talking to the Basham Brothers. Anyway, I highly doubt that I'll pay for a card that has Vince/Steph featured just as prominently as the WWE title match, strong undercard or not.

I stand corrected. I was going on the thinking that the draft took place on the 18th, when it was actually the week after. Linda's announcement was on the 18th.
