Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted October 4, 2003 Can you imagine Bret Hart presenting Chris Benoit with the WWE title at WMXX after a match with Angle? Impossible, maybe. But a man can dream...
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 The Iron Man Match with HBK was one of Bret's favorites??? Why shouldn't it be? It's probably the most realistic match ever. It's Angle's favorite. And HBK's favorite too.
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 WOW. ...What horrible taste in matches. Or maybe it's just that damn good and anybody who knows anything about wrestling loves it. Deal with it. Heh.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2003 chaosrage, most people hate the WM12 Iron Man because the psychology was completely discarded in favor of just hitting big spots, and neither man sold a whole lot. Now, if the stipulation was "one fall, 60-minute time limit" instead of "Iron Man" rules (since the final score was 1-0 HBK, correct?), I doubt as many people would hate the match as much. Personally, I haven't seen it, because I didn't start ordering WrestleMania until 14 (a little after I became a hardcore fan instead of just a casual viewer when nothing else was on), and there's no tapes of WM12 in any local stores. I'll probably get the HBK DVD for X-Mas (it has the Iron Man, doesn't it?), so then I'll be able to accurately comment on everything.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I was shocked more by the fact that he looked back favorably on a match in which he had to lose to HBK even though he didn't hate him at that point.....as much. Plus he seemed really pissed off at the end of it. Did anyone ever notice that Earl Hebner waits until he's sure Bret is looking before handing the title to HBK? It's like he went out of his way to do it in front of Bret at the end of the Iron Man match. Not sure why he did that, but it always seemed odd to me that you can actually see Earl just standing there holding the title for a good minute before reaching down and handing it to HBK and the look on Bret's face makes him look pissed. Guest Nanks Report post Posted October 5, 2003 The point that does actually make me hold out hope for some form of Bret "return" is that he doesn't put himself in harm's way by performing his finisher. Bret could feasibly do a run-in with a chair or belt before putting the Sharpshooter on someone. No need for any bumping or any risk to himself at all. To set-up the revenge angle it would be just as easy to do a bit where Bret is found bloodied and beaten so once again, no need for bumping or performing of any chance, he just has to lie down. Obviously, Bret will never wrestle again, but there is no reason he can't "work" as such.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Well, I never expected to see Shawn Michael go through a table again either so what do I know. Even if Bret changes his mind this match is near-guaranteed to be not good, but they'll get all the respect in the world from the crowd for doing it. And I say that as a guy who's noted as not liking Bret Hart.
Highland 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I don't see Bret even making an appearance. He's said he's lost all interest in the business.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I doubt that from his last column. He was talking about fans asking him when he's going to make a comeback, and anyone over the dumbest of marks knows Bret Hart isn't going to easily make a comeback. My guess is he sees himself doing so in his ego-driven mind.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Stop comparing Bret's injuries to Foleys and Michaels. We're talking about a *brain* injury. Falling off his bike gave him a stroke and it took months of rehab just to be able to go about his daily life. Wrestling is out of the question. That's a fact. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 I'll probably get the HBK DVD for X-Mas (it has the Iron Man, doesn't it?) Its all there in its unedited glory including the isle entrances. I was shocked more by the fact that he looked back favorably on a match in which he had to lose to HBK even though he didn't hate him at that point.....as much. Plus he seemed really pissed off at the end of it. Did anyone ever notice that Earl Hebner waits until he's sure Bret is looking before handing the title to HBK? I noticed that too and I'm still not sure if the anger / frustration he displayed was legit or if it was just part of an act to sell the "I got screwed" moniker because of the sudden death stipulation Monsoon added at the last minute since it "wasn't part of the original rules of the match". I wished Bret would have just shook Michaels' hand or something, just to show some good sportsmanship, it would have added more to the ending of the PPV. Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Why do you dislike Bretty boy, Jobber? One word: Whine. I mean, give it up. I could understand it from a business perspective sort of but to whine because the boss wanted you to lose a blowoff match against the guy you've been programmed against in an angle that was probably one of the tackier nationalism angles (up there with Iraqi Slaughter and The Unamericans) was very petty, no matter how much he hated the guy. WCW wasn't going to drop their interest in him because of he lost his departure feud. Stop comparing Bret's injuries to Foleys and Michaels. We're talking about a *brain* injury. Falling off his bike gave him a stroke and it took months of rehab just to be able to go about his daily life. Wrestling is out of the question. That's a fact. Here's a kleenex. What I'm saying is that whether it's in a wrestling capacity or not, the guy is teasing himself in his own mind about how he'd like to be performing in front of big crowds again ("Fans ask me when I'll make my comeback" [yeah right], "I dreamt that I was wrestling the other night," etc.) The only question is whether his emotions will outweigh the politics and paranoia. Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Forgive the guy for holding a grudge on the man who publicly humiliated him. Jeez, Bret's button is easily pushed. As for coming back, I wouldn't wanna see it from a match quality standpoint, but just to SEE him in there again would be quite the amazing thing.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Bret Hart Thing is, I truly believe that Kurt Angle is the guy that can save wrestling - from itself. In my opinion, the problem with wrestling today, the reason why the ratings are down, is that very few guys know how to wrestle any more. I mean wrestling as an art form. To me they all look like a bunch of Mexican jumping beans and after a while that gets boring. It's like a movie full of car wrecks and explosions without any story. I believe that one of the reasons I got the World Heavyweight Title, the first time, was because in the midst of a steroid scandal the WWF needed a champion who could really wrestle as one way of showing that the business isn't all about muscle . I believe that's what the WWE needs today and the guy that can pull it off and carry the torch is Kurt Angle. Just think. If Montreal didn't happen and if Vince didn't force Bret out, he would probably be a road agent right now.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2003 Yeah I didnt think Bret did the right thing by forcing Vince to do the screwjob.... yes that's right I said it.... I'm a huge Bret Hart fan, and I marked out for his WCW World title win, and I still think he deserved the screwjob.
