Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Do you think he is a credible ROH champion? I think he is a great wrestler. If he showed a little extra charsima though, that would make much better. What do ya'll think about Samoa Joe?
Guest j.o.b. squad Report post Posted October 16, 2003 he is deacent but schould not be the champ. roh has much better workers then him daniels, homicide, corino.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I'm not a Joe fan. Decent worker, but the guy strikes me as very bland presence and personality wise. ROH is at least trying to establish him as a credible champ by having him go over guys like London, Daniels, etc. instead of showing him to be a placeholder, but I agree...there are better choices for ROH champion, IMO. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Samoa Joe is awesome- He's a great worker who comes off like a major bad ass. He's had great matches with Low Ki, Dragon, Homicide, Maff etc. I hope he retains tonight over Briscoe. He does have charisma- the OLAY OLAY OLAY stuff rules
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I dig the OLAY OLAY stuff, when I wrote something along the lines of "Samoa Joe doesn't have much charisma" (I definitely didn't phrase it like that) in my Frontiers of Honor review I hadn't seen his recent promos. The promo at Do or Die where he totally nonchalantly kicked Dan Maff in the mouth was great. That said, I'm still not a fan of him as champion. The belt likely would have been on Paul London by now had he not been signed by WWE. I'd prefer Homicide (who ROH has built into a draw) or CM Punk as champion. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I think he's the perfect champion. He's big and talented...so beating smaller talented guys just makes sense to me. Plus...I think the longer this reign goes, with wins over Daniels and London and whatnot...it's extremely credible. Not only that, but I think there's a nice sized rub for whoever finally knocks him off his perch.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Yea- Whomever does beat Joe (Homicide, Low Ki or Punk I'd imagine) will look awesome since they finally knocked off the unstoppable monster
Jack_Bauer 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I think Samoa Joe will get through tonight with not too many problems.
Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted October 16, 2003 I wasn't happy when Samoa Joe won the belt, I figured he'd just continue to lower the prestige of the belt like Xavier did, but I was wrong. Joe has proved to be a GREAT champ. He's defended it around the world, against people of all kinds of styles, and got big wins over guys like London and Daniels. Like Barron said, whoever goes over Joe (Styles is my pick, especilly since he's most likely dropping the NWA belt) will look huge.
PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 (edited) Great talent, liked him ever since I first saw him in UPW. I think he makes a good champ.. better than Xavier did... Edited October 17, 2003 by PsychoDriver
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 Joe is the perfect champ. He kicks ass, can have great matches, does good promos, and is seen as virtually unbeatable. There are many money matches down the line with him, against Ki, Styles, Dragon, Punk, Daniels, etc. The guy will likely be champ for a long time.
Guest The Real Nosferatu Report post Posted October 17, 2003 ::Waits for 1inch punch to say Samoa Joe is awful and doesn't disserve to hold any title::
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted October 17, 2003 I would have to say that Joe is by far a respectable champion. He has proved that he can work a match and he plays the badass role very well.
Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted October 18, 2003 After reading the results from "Tradition Continues" last night, I'm even more certain that Joe is the best champ ROH can have right now. Coming in, Briscoe was treated as a nothing challenger, but according to the results, he was over as a credible threat. It sounds very much like the Daniels match from GBH II with the hot nearfalls. Joe seems to be able to get himself and the belt over as credible, while still making his opponents look like a million bucks. THAT is a great champion. Guest Deviant Report post Posted October 18, 2003 I'd like to add my name to the list of people that support Joe as ROH Champion. I like that this reign appears to be becoming a long one and I'll mark out like crazy if, say, CM Punk wins the title. Punk has dedicated himself to ROH and is the perfect choice for the next champion, even though it would be a heel-heel change at the moment...
Guest trickstyle_360 Report post Posted October 18, 2003 I hate Joe's bootscrapes, everybody does one now cause of Ohtani....the only guys who do a awesome bootscrape on the indies is Gage and Homicide.
Guest Devin Report post Posted October 19, 2003 Joe is the man, plain and simple. I think his reign has been great, and done wonders as far as building the title's prestige. I hope they keep the strap on him for an extended period of time, making the loss all that more important. I'm pretty sure it will be Homicide who takes the title from him. SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Having never seen a Samoa Joe match, I've read and seen pictures of him left and right. To an outsider, he comes off as a credible and respectable champion who is creating a lot of prestige for a young championship belt. I haven't seen any RoH shows in there entirity, but I have downloaded matches and seen most of the stars work elsewhere...
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted October 20, 2003 Granted, I have only seen his Match against Awsome from MLW, but he came off as slow and clumsy, adding just about nothing to the match and barely carrying his own weight. Just my opinion.
Guest Devin Report post Posted October 21, 2003 The MLW match was completely Awesome's fault, which is the reason he was let go and Joe was still there to cut an awesome promo on tonight's show. That match was nothing like a typical Joe match, and is a terrible example of what the guy is capable of. Much like the Super Dragon and B-Boy matches that have taken place in MLW. Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted October 21, 2003 last night he cut an AWESOME promo on MLW Underground. Hopefully his match a week or so ago was a fluke and his next one is better.
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted October 21, 2003 (edited) I hate Joe's bootscrapes, everybody does one now cause of Ohtani....the only guys who do a awesome bootscrape on the indies is Gage and Homicide. I fucking love Gage's bootscrapes, but in Joe's defense, his are the second-best, the ones against the rails are NASTY. I hate Homicide's, they're TOO stiff and they're kinda sloppy. He almost broke Trent Acid's eye socket with one at Beating the Odds. Edited October 21, 2003 by DuskTillDawn
Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted October 21, 2003 I like Joe just fine, but I'm sick of him as RoH champion. RoH has too many other good workers who are better known and more over than Joe, and would make better champions. Christopher Daniels CM Punk Raven AJ Styles
Michrome 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2003 Joe-Styles could be the next Vader-Sting feud. As far as the match with Awesome, please don't judge Joe on that. Mike Awesome is just so washed up and awful these days, he can't have good matches anymore.
Guest The Last Free Voice Report post Posted October 21, 2003 that is all I have to judge him on right now. Hopefully he'll be at the 1.10 Willmington ROH show I plan on going to.
Guest mattitude V1 Report post Posted October 24, 2003 I like him but not enogh to be championn. Homicide hopefully is next roh champiopn
Guest Markingout Report post Posted October 24, 2003 The only good thing I see coming about of this is whoever wins look great. He has been booked greatly. He is a superstar out of this, and ROH loves to make superstars. They did so. Good job Rob Feinstein
