Charlotte's Corbin earns Fresh Fish Award

Charlotte's shortstop Joseph Corbin has worked hard to reach the big leagues. His work paid off today as the North-South named him the Fresh Fish Award winner! His season features a batting average of .280 (166 hits in 593 AB), 44 doubles, 12 triples and 18 taters. Corbin collected 84 RBI and 95 runs as well.

Suzuki (PHO) and DeSantis (ATL) win Big Stick Award

The Big Stick Award in the East-West was handed to Phoenix's third baseman Shiro Suzuki! Suzuki has hit for a .359 average this season. He has 79 extra base hits along with 371 total bases, resulting in a .582 slugging percentage. He's 1st in the East-West in batting and 7th in RBI! Suzuki wins the award for the 2nd time in his 9-year career. The Big Stick Award in the North-South was handed to Atlanta's first baseman Carlos DeSantis! Carlos hit .361 this year, with 218 hits in 604 at bats. He drove in 149 runs, slugging .644. He's 1st in the North-South in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! DeSantis wins the award for the 5th time in his 9-year career.

With some improvements to the pitching point system, Tiny Gonzales could be a very successful middle reliever or closer, but going to the infield or the outfield is almost a sure bet for having a superstar, or damn close to it, anyway.

If I were to use Tiny Gonzales, he'd be, as expected, the exact opposite of Giant. Like, little velocity, just a bunch of slow-moving pitches that have more movement than a roller coaster or something.

Lots of interesting stuff regarding championships and stuff. Like how no North division team won a title. The South be holding down the North and stuff.

It seems like the Tea Baggers are almost like the Marlins. When they make the playoffs, they win the title, but the next few seasons are a slump, so this should guarantee that Boston will not become the third team to repeat as champions.

Uh, perhaps I'll notice more things later, that have little to no interest concerning them. Or something.

Free Agency:

After the first day, Las Vegas, New York, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, and Charlotte had all made offers for Edward James, but the favorite offer came from none other than the Columbus Pride, already home to TSM players Peter Kostka and Robert Henderson.

New York upped the ante after the second day, as New Jersey threw in a bid of their own.

Third day: Las Vegas pulls up their offer, and the Jokers get James' ear.

Meanwhile, teams are debating what to do with The Berserker and Marvin Jenkins, 20-game winner, and the only 20-game winner on the free agent market.

Finally, on day 5 of the free agency period, Edward James agreed to join the Las Vegas Jokers, getting a three year contract deal worth 8,746,500 per year, almost double his salary with Memphis.

Jenkins and Rolf remain untouched, until day 11 when New York finally stepped forward, giving Jenkins an offer. Dreikugeln remained unnoticed by the teams, however.

The very next day, four teams stepped forward for Rolf, including Vancouver, Boston, Denver, and Indy. The Vasectomy presented the best offer for Rolf.

Day 14: Boston becomes Rolf's favorite offer, Jenkins still only has an offer from New York on the table and no other team.

And on Day 15: Rolf said let there be Tea Bagging. Signing with Boston for 4 years at 4.5+ mill per year, once again doubling his salary that he had with the Hanoi Janes, and also moving to the defending champions.

Day 16: P Marvin Jenkins, 8,222,200 per year, for 4 years. Jenkins is off to the New York Bums, the first TSM player to be on that team. A $4.3 million increase in per year salary is quite significant for Mr. Jenkins.

Now to the amateur draft...

Amateur Draft:

Round 1: Ann Onita goes as the 8th overall pick in the draft, selected by the Seattle Frasiers, where she will join R.J. Frost and David Hunter.

Round 2: The Vancouver Vasectomy will have their third TSM player as Mike Van Siclen was drafted as the 23rd overall pick. R.J. Frost and Charlie Matthews formerly played for Vancouver.

Aw you are kidding me... I went to Las Vegas?

:( I'm highly disappointed with my player... But I did say for him to increase his cash flow, and so he did. But LVJ? They haven't won their conference since 2006. What am I supposed to do there? Give'em the muscle to do so? I doubt it, since I'm the guy who gives the support.

It's going to be a long four years... Unless I retire. Still, a long four years either way.

The Jokers need the offense that you showed off in 2012 leading up to your unfortunate injury in the final moments of the season. If you can keep up your offensive performance, you will be essential to the Jokers' team, which is going to be hurting for awhile, but can easily bounce back in the West, which has never been much of a strong division.

With Jenkins going to the Bums, the only teams untouched by a TSM player are now Denver, New Jersey, Baltimore, and Chicago.

2013 is shaping up to be quite the interesting season, especially with the addition of the first female (and openly gay) player in Ann Onita suiting up with the Frasiers.

Oh I don't doubt I'm going to be a great assest. Problem is, I think that 2012 was the "career year' and hence, it'll be back to my previous numbers (which weren't shabby, but not enough to be like "godly").

Hopefully, everything works out. And good luck to you Ann, in your first season with the SBFL. Here's hoping you do well.

Slowly but surely, Atlanta is getting rid of its dead weight. Wait, we lost Hunter last year and we finished third. So we're getting rid of precious load-bearing weight? What we need is the oldest manager ever. I say someone dig up Strom Thurmond's body and zombify him so he can lead us to a title.

Kind of interesting that Annie went to Seattle, where Gonzales was drafted (Oh no, she's going to be following me!). I doubt she'll put up the horrible numbers Gonzales had up there, though.

Finally, to add realism to the game, the Vasectomy should relocate to Havana for part of the season. That's all, for the moment.

I carried your damn offense last year buddy. :P

I'm now glad I left with a comment like that.

Actually, that was referring to Rolf, I do believe. Who isn't dead weight. Considering Gonzales and James were on different teams, I don't think you're dead weight.

EDIT: And I must demand that Mr. Rant sign up since he just made a random comment in this thread.

Opening Day

SFBL 2013

Phoenix Ashes vs. Las Vegas Jokers

Shiro Suzuki and Edward James both stepped to the plate against each other to kick off the new year. With James on a new team, it was time to see if he had adjusted.

The adjustment is in progress. Phoenix finished with 7 runs and Nathan Thrush and the Phoenix bullpen were barely able to stop the Jokers, giving up five runs in the bottom of the 9th before finally shutting down the Jokers for a 7-5 victory.

Thrush had three-hit the Jokers leading up to that ugly ninth inning, so he earned the Player of the Game Award. Edward James was left hitless, going 0-for-3 and being walked once.

Meanwhile, Suzuki got off to a good start, going 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. George Kennedy's 2 triples in the game got him in prime position for scoring, definitely benefiting the Ashes as they win on opening day.

New York Bums vs. Boston Tea Baggers

Speaking of adjusting, Marvin Jenkins was going to be tested right out of the gate against the defending SFBL Champions, with Rolf waiting in the bullpen as the designated closer for the team.

Jenkins gave it his all against the Bums, but was overpowered. However, he wasn't credited with the loss. After pitching six innings and surrendering five earned runs on eight hits with six walks, reliever Juan Martinez let a run cross the plate in a tie with Boston, as Jenkins was left with a no-decision on opening day.

Tim Neal didn't do all that much better, lasting longer and only giving up four earned runs as Rolf Dreikugeln pitched a perfect 9th for his first save of the season.

Seattle Frasiers vs. Los Angeles Glory Holes

David Guzman shut down David Hunter and R.J. Frost in their 2013 debut with the Frasiers, the duo combining for only one hit (by Frost) in 8 at-bats. Fortunately, Frost crossed the plate and drove in a run with that hit. However, the Glory Holes beat the Frasiers down easily, 9-2.

Columbus Pride vs. Detroit Motor Vehicles

Robert Henderson's two homeruns propelled the Pride to a 7-2 opening day victory on the road against Detroit. Henderson drove in 4 runs, earning player of the game. Peter Kostka pitched 3 1/3 innings, only giving up one hit while walking one and striking out two, holding the lead established by ace Felix Rodas.

Logan Caldwell went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.

Jacksonville Jackoffs vs. Houston Horny Toads

Eugene Widrick hit two doubles and went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one run driven in, but Houston still scored a major upset over the North-South Conference Champions, a 7-4 victory. Patrick Hannon was walked once and went 1-for-4. Winston Ghandi went 1-for-5, scoring once.

Atlanta Hanoi Janes vs. Vancouver Vasectomy

Eric LeBeau looked strong in his Opening Day pitching performance, pitching 7 2/3 innings with 4 hits allowed and 2 earned runs allowed. The bullpen held up--barely, as Phil Hanson had to face 5 batters to get three outs in the bottom of the 9th and hang on for a 3-2 victory. Carlos DeSantis hits his first homerun of the season in his second at-bat of the season, driving in one run--himself--and collecting no other hits while being walked once. Mike Van Siclen, in the leadoff position, went 0-for-4 with one strikeout.

Wrong.

I'm not touching OOTP6 until I hear more about it, and until I hear more about the way league conversions from v5 to v6 are handled.

I don't even have the game, and don't intend to buy it for some time unless reviews are rave for it and it won't be a bitch to transfer over (there aren't enough new features to warrant starting over).

Transferring OOTP 5 files to OOTP 6 is pretty much a cinch, I've done it with two leagues(one from 1901-1945 and the other a 2004 Red Sox league) and both have gone through perfectly, no problems on my end. You basically just find the folder of your league and click OK and it transfers to OOTP 6(everything in that folder tranfers over.) You can also keep the ratings 1-10 if you transfer although I like making everything 1-100 to see how "mis-leading" the ratings are in OOTP 5 compared to OOTP 6(Ex: Johnny Damon had a B range at CF but in OOTP 6 is an 80 range at CF, etc.)

Starting Pitchers:

2) Eric LeBeau (3.55)

3) Marvin Jenkins (5.07)

4) Giant Gonzales (4.11)

5) Ben Dover (6.15)

Relievers:

1) The Berzerker (0.87)

2) Peter Kostka (0.89)

Notes: Ann Onita makes an immediate impression in the SFBL by pitching two solid starts in the first month of the season, shutting out the New York Bums for 8 2/3 innings and getting a solid 6 2/3 innings in her first start against the New Jersey Clerks. The real test for Annie will be against the West Division, however, where wins on the mound will be crucial to her team's current first place standing.

Mike Van Siclen also impressed many in the first month of action, making him a solid candidate for Rookie of the Year. Patrick Hannon seems on his way to a breakout year if the numbers from April are any clue, while David Hunter is looking more and more like a washout after all. DeSantis rules, of course.

Oh, and Rest In Peace, Ben Dover, as bone chips in your shoulder have taken you out of the season and it's doubtful you'll ever pitch very well again, if you ever get the chance to pitch again at all.
