David Hunter stars with 2000th career hit

BOSTON - Las Vegas' players had every reason to congratulate David Hunter, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! Along with his 2000 hits, David collected 266 homeruns and 1114 RBI in 11 seasons. 'You dream about that as a kid, but when you reach such a milestone it's hard to believe. I feel fantastic.' With two outs in the 1st inning, David drilled a single off David Guzman, as the Boston fans acknowledged Hunter's feat.

Saturday, August 11th, 2017:

Giant Gonzales (ATL) will miss 7-8 weeks

ATLANTA - The Hanoi Janes are without their southpaw Giant Gonzales for at least 7-8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Octavio Santos in a game against Jacksonville. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. The diagnosis after x-rays were taken was that Giant had a strained elbow ligament in his throwing arm. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season, the 40-year-old Gonzales has compiled an ERA of 4.36, going 6-9 in 25 starts. He's fanned 90 batters while giving up 158 hits in 150 and 2/3 innings.

Saturday, September 1st, 2017:

Pitcher of the Month award winners announced

Los Angeles' pitcher Peter Kostka is the East-West winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. His record of 2-0 in 5 starts was among the league's best this month. In thirty-three and two-thirds innings of work he allowed just 26 hits while striking out 31, compiling an ERA of just 1.34. This season, Kostka has compiled an ERA of 3.12, going 7-9 in 26 starts. He's fanned 141 batters while giving up 167 hits in 161 and 2/3 innings. He has one complete game and one shutout this season.

The basic way to look at the question of whether or not you are getting run support is to take a look at the ERC of your player.

If the ERC of your player is lower than the ERA of your player, then the defense has costed you a few runs here and there that have inflated your ERA. If the ERC is higher than the ERA, however, that means that you have been blessed with a great defense behind you that is keeping runs from coming across the plate.

This is also the answer as to why I sort the pitcher rankings by ERC.

I have simulated to the end of September, and there are only two games remaining in October.

So, let's talk about some things that were brought up at midseason in the Fact or Fiction, and let's catch up with these things:

Neall Isaacson in pursuit of 64 homeruns

As predicted by "Kruk," Isaacson fell off the wagon in the second half, and as of October 1st, has hit only 15 homeruns in the second half, considerably off the pace that he was hitting in the first half. In fact, Robert Henderson has overtaken him for the homerun lead in the North-South with 50 dingers, which is actually good enough for first place in the SFBL.

The West Champions will have a winning record at the end of the season

Well, congratulations to the Los Angeles Glory Holes, who defied logic and managed to stay over .500 in the hapless West, clinching a playoff spot and advancing to the playoffs for what I believe is the first playoff berth in Glory Hole history.

With two games remaining, the team has a 83-77 record, meaning they cannot finish under .500. Congrats again to Kostka, Sly, and the rest of the Glory Holes.

The New Orleans Crunk Machine will become the first expansion team to enter the playoffs

Not as long as the Jacksonville Jackoffs are still kings of the South. Jacksonville caught fire in the second half and put distance between themselves and everyone else, leaving New Orleans thirteen games behind the South Champion Jackoffs with two games remaining. The wildcard, of course, is no better, since it was South or bust for the Crunk Machine.

Robert Henderson will eventually win the Triple Crown

Well, believe it or not, Big Red actually has a legitimate shot at the Triple Crown in the North-South. Many forces will have to conspire in his favor.

With a .346 batting average at the conclusion of September, and assuming that he has only eight at-bats left in his final two games, going 8-for-8 would give Henderson a .354 batting average, which is good enough for second place in the batting race in the North-South.

Should Balesio Varela of Vancouver stumble, however, Henderson will definitely have a better shot at the batting title. At .355, however, Varela has a rather comfortable lead on Henderson. Big Red will likely have the homerun title, with a three homerun lead on Isaacson. Henderson is only one RBI behind Isaacson now. So, more than ever, Henderson has a shot at the triple crown once again.

Timothy Marsch will win the East-West batting title

Marsch currently has a .365 batting average, .004 points above second place with two games remaining. It's not a cushy lead by any means, but a couple of good games will keep him in first place. He might also have the best batting average in the SFBL if Varela in the North-South does not suddenly surge ahead of the pack.

Moving on to the playoff races, all but two of them have been decided with two games remaining.

The Chicago Transit Authority have clinched the East-West Central, with a three game lead over Denver currently.

The Los Angeles Glory Holes have clinched the East-West West, with a six game lead over Seattle currently.

The New Jersey Clerks have clinched the North-South North, with a four game lead over Columbus currently.

The Memphis Eels have clinched the North-South Central, with a nine game lead over Indianapolis currently.

The Jacksonville Jackoffs have clinched the North-South South, with a thirteen game lead over New Orleans currently.

The Columbus Pride have clinched the North-South Wildcard, with a twelve game lead over Vancouver currently.

That leaves the East-West East and the East-West wildcard, which look something like this:

PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM AT MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE

If Philadelphia wins, they clinch the East-West East division.

If Montreal wins, New York will remain in the race for the East.

Philadelphia was hoping that Montreal would lay down, but the Freedom Fries did no such thing.

After cutting the score to 2-1 after the top of the sixth, the Freedom could not hold back Montreal for long, as Montreal made the score 3-1 in the bottom half of the inning and added two more runs in the next inning to pull away from Philadelphia, defeating them 5-1.

The only run for Philadelphia came in the form of Edward James' solo homerun in the top of the sixth, James' 33rd homerun of the season and his 90th RBI.

PHILADELPHIA 1, MONTREAL 5

OKLAHOMA TWISTERS AT NEW YORK BUMS

If Oklahoma wins, Philadelphia clinches the East-West East division.

If New York wins, Philadelphia's lead in the East is cut to one game.

Now would be a great time to start believing in miracles.

Philadelphia seemed to have things wrapped up, but after losing their game, New York stormed the field against Oklahoma, spanking them 13-1 in an ugly game for the Twisters. Adam West hit a three-run homerun in the fifth inning, continuing an amazing season.

Timothy Marsch increased his batting average to .366 with a 2-for-4 day, leaving him .005 points ahead of Denver's Jose Etenza minutes before Etenza prepared to play for Denver.

OKLAHOMA 1, NEW YORK 13

DENVER DOUCHEBAGS AT BALTIMORE CRIME SPREE

If Denver wins, Denver remains one game ahead of the New York Bums in the East-West Wildcard.

If Baltimore wins, Denver and New York are tied in the East-West Wildcard and Boston will be one game behind.

Denver scored early, and after Baltimore tied in the bottom of the second, Denver managed to tack on two runs lately to win 4-2, as the 59-102 Crime Spree put up a hell of a fight against Denver, who is looking for a wildcard berth.

And once again, Atlanta doesn't make the playoffs. I am so close to no-selling them right now.

Anyway, too bad that Henderson didn't get the triple crown. Uh, considering my team isn't in the playoffs, I don't have too much to say, other than the fact that the West in SFBL is like the East in the NBA. You don't need a winning record to make the playoffs.

Also odd that powerhouse Seattle didn't make the playoffs. Oh well. Time for people who care wins to comment.

MONTREAL - Edward James got a standing ovation from 18,864 fans in Montreal, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. VANCOUVER - Vancouver's Shimetarou Naoki had a smile on his face after he belted his 500th career homerun against Columbus on Wednesday, the last day of the season. A 434 foot drive to right-center marked his 500th career bomb, a solo homerun off Yosy Valdez in the 6th inning. In 13 years of big league action so far, Shimetarou has compiled a batting average of .285, along with 2282 hits and 1,527 RBI. Shimetarou has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 10 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 5 times. 'I'm out of words right now. Tomorrow, I'll realize it. For now, I just want to get some sleep.' The Hall of Fame has already reserved a place for this great player.
