Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 27, 2004 SFBL June 2020 Best Team in June: The New Orleans Crunk Machine. Five games down at the end of May, the Crunk Machine went an impressive 18-9 as the rest of the South faltered, allowing the Crunk Machine to sneak from third place to first by the end of June, one game ahead of the Hanoi Janes. Worst Team in June: The Philadelphia Freedom. After a 9-18 June, the Freedom are definitely hurting in the East, seventeen games behind the Bums at the conclusion of the first half of the season. If they want to see a playoff berth, it's going to take a lot of work: They're even 19 games out of the East-West wildcard. Transactions: NONE! Awards/SFBL Players In The News: Sunday, June 10th, 2020: Memphis' Robert Henderson goes deep three times NEW JERSEY - Robert Henderson can hit'em a long way, and New Jersey pitchers couldn't smile about that today. Memphis' first baseman unloaded three bombs, adding to his reputation of being one of the best power hitters in the game. His 1st shot, off Justin Henigan in the 1st inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A 428 foot drive to left-center marked his second bomb, a two-run homerun off Steve Thomas in the 2nd inning. Number 3 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 357 feet, cleared the wall in left field. He did not get a hit in his final two at-bats, missing out on the chance to become only the second player in SFBL history to hit four or more homeruns in a game. Overall he finished with three hits in five at bats, scoring four runs and collecting six RBI. Memphis scored 16 runs on 13 hits. Monday, June 11th, 2020: Henderson wins Player of the Week award It's the 31st time that the North-South Player of the Week award goes to Memphis' first baseman Robert Henderson. Henderson helped his team with an average of .643 and 19 RBI in 28 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to nine games. This year Henderson drove in 63 and scored 60 runs while batting .327 with 23 longballs. He's 1st in the North-South in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Thursday, June 14th, 2020: Nigel McClain allows milestone hit to Atlanta's Steve Hatfield ATLANTA - Atlanta's Steve Hatfield showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Columbus on Thursday. In twelve years of big league action so far, Steve has compiled a batting average of .290, along with 455 homeruns and 1476 RBI. With two outs in the first inning, Steve drilled a single off Nigel McClain, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Wednesday, June 20th, 2020: Chicago's Logan Caldwell hits for the cycle CHICAGO - Logan Caldwell is a pretty good hitter, but his four hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. Number one in the 2nd inning accounted for a double. A single in fifth off Robb Partridge accounted for his second hit. In the sixth inning he unloaded a two-run triple off Carl Owens. His fourth hit, off Carl Owens in the eighth inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in center field, completing the cycle and getting a standing ovation from the Transit Authority fans! Logan scored two runs and collected six RBI! He now has a total of sixty-five hits this season, accounting for a .243 batting average. Jerrold Mauder was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 7/14/2019. SFBL Standings Injuries: Tuesday 6/19/2020 : MEM: Robert Henderson was injured being hit by a pitch. The North-South remained largely ineffective until the top of the sixth, when Balesio Varela finally got North-South's offense going with a one-out solo homerun to cut the East-West lead to two runs. They added on two more runs in the following inning, thanks to a two-run homerun from Andre Chevalier, who also scored Jody Saunders from first. After the seventh-inning stretch with the score tied at one run a piece, Zoilo Castillo got to second base due to a dropped fly ball by Varela, and Eduardo Lizana drove him in as the next batter with an RBI single to give the East-West a one-run lead, needing six more outs to close out the game. The North-South hadn't exhausted a single out before they tied the game again, as Jesse Ewiak hit a sacrifice fly to left-center, scoring pinch-hitter Robert Henderson from third as the score was tied once again at four runs a piece. Runners were on second and third with one out later in the inning, but neither Bennett Franko nor Andre Chevalier could bring them in. The score stayed deadlocked at four as the game dragged into extra innings. Finally, with two outs and a runner on third, Michael Maley hit a tricky grounder to Fredrick Dale, who bobbled the ball and was able to get Maley at first, much less Winston Ghandi, who streaked to home as the go-ahead run, giving the North-South their first lead of the game. In the bottom of the tenth, Jose Lopez was perfect, knocking down Mike Cannington, Alejandro Pulido, and Jerrold Mauder 1-2-3 to end the inning and the game as the North-South emerged triumphant in this year's All-Star Game. North-South All-Stars 5, East-West All-Stars 4 WP - Jose Lopez LP - Fredrick Dale TSM Players' Contribution: Marvin Jenkins - Continuing a tradition of not playing in the All-Star Game, Marvin did not go to the mound during the game. Adam West - 1-for-4 with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning, but Adam did very little else, striking out in his other three at-bats as he was largely ineffective against North-South pitching. Robert Henderson - did not start, but came into the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning, hitting a huge triple that led to him scoring off a sacrifice fly from Jesse Ewiak. His second at-bat resulted simply in a groundout to the second baseman. Winston Ghandi - started at shortstop, his only hit in four at-bats was a big tenth inning double that he would later score on. Andre Chevalier - All-Star Game MVP, 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs from a two-run homerun in the seventh inning that evened the score at three runs a piece. Jesse Ewiak - 1-for-4 with an RBI thanks to a sacrifice fly that scored Robert Henderson from third and tied the game at four-all.
Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2004 Andre Chevalier - All-Star Game MVP, 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs from a two-run homerun in the seventh inning that evened the score at three runs a piece. Alright! I never expected Andre to be this good this quickly. Thus far, he has helped New Orleans stay in the playoff hunt, had his first All-Star selection and the MVP. Hopefully, he gets the Crunk Machine to the playoffs and, maybe, takes rookie of the year. I hope he keeps it up.

Der Kommissar 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Hey Evo, I am curious. From the looks of it, New Orleans has a fairly comfortable lead in their division, so I was wondering what exactly caused them to turn the corner so quickly? They seemed to always be somewhere between below average and quite bad, so why are they suddenly a possible playoff team? Good moves in the offseason? Prospects finally playing up to their potential? Just wondering.
TheBostonStrangler 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 That's it. I hit 20 HR's in the first three months of the season, and I'm wasting away on those goddamn Houston Horny Toads. NO MORE! Patrick Hannon wants a trade, dammit.
the.weej 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 And I don't think there's any real question of where you should send him, Evo. And as a note, the guy who's third in the league in Ks and first in his confrence gets passed on for the all-star game? Weak. -Z

Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 29, 2004 New Orleans has emerged as the first expansion team with a true shot at making it to the postseason mostly because of their pitching. They've only allowed 475 runs, which is the lowest total of any pitching staff in the SFBL. Led by "The Shark Finn" William Tienhaara, the starting rotation has only one weakness in Moses Raposa. The bullpen doesn't have too many slouches, either, and the acquisition of Tiny Gonzales has helped them greatly. Rick Mello has only blown three saves in 20 opportunities, which is a very good percentage for a team that has been down in the dirt since conception. Patrick Hannon has held out for a long time with his team, much like Logan Caldwell. This trade is long overdue. Teams that need a third baseman (bold denotes potential playoff bound team): Baltimore, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Memphis, New Orleans, New York Z, I know you want more TSM players, but the fact is that Columbus' offense is pretty stacked. Not only do they have an awesome third baseman in "The Beast" Nathan Smith, but he can't be relegated to designated hitter either since John Scherfenberg is usually the leftover player against most pitchers, and he's got a .296 batting average with 22 homeruns. Of the playoff teams who needs a third baseman the most, New Orleans is probably the most in need, followed by Las Vegas and New York.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Evo, did you just HAVE to say Third Basemen to get me to be interested? I mean completely after the fact I said "I ain't doing a trade?" ...cause I mean, that was awfully ironic and sadistic. Besides, I doubt any of those teams would want my heafty contract or could afford it.

Guest Evolution Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Baltimore needs a third baseman? What is Paco's role? Paco plays third base, but he only has average range at the position and compared to all the other third basemen in the SFBL, he's below average. If Hannon were to go to Baltimore, Fernandez would probably be moved to designated hitter, since Hannon can play the position of third base better. And Boston? Nah, Raimundo Robledo is fine. Guest Obrechtion Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Paco plays third base, but he only has average range at the position and compared to all the other third basemen in the SFBL, he's below average. Defense has always been my weakest point. Maybe I should focus on defense in the offseason so if I get shipped to a team without the designated hitter, I'll still be able to play. Defense has always been my weakest point. Maybe I should focus on defense in the offseason so if I get shipped to a team without the designated hitter, I'll still be able to play. Actually, both leagues have the designated hitter, so you don't need to worry about that, and it's a common reason why most have ignored defense when it comes to Spring Training. There's nothing terribly wrong with not having defense, just so long as someone else on your team has it. Edward James, Mike Van Siclen, Peter Kostka, Marvin Jenkins, Austin Sly, Timothy Marsch, Rolf Dreikugeln, and Carlos Desantis are all possible for free agency if their team does not resign them on the first of August.
