Smartmarks Fake Baseball League

Recommended Posts

I've simulated the final month short of the final four games in October, but I thought I'd tease you all with this little ditty that I typed up.

RACE TO THE FINISH

Boston Tea Baggers and New York Bums

For: The Eastern Division

Stipulations: The loser goes home, as the Wildcard has been clinched by either Baltimore or Denver.

Standings:

Team GB

Boston --

New York 1

A pre-emptive nearly-off-the-first-page bump!

Dude! Get off of GTA or Halo 2 or whatever is keeping you away, and get back here to tell me I made it to the playoffs again! :headbang:

October 1st

Montreal at Boston

The Fritures de Liberte seemed to be rallying from an 8-2 deficit, closing the gap to 8-7, but Boston added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put away Montreal 10-7 in a game that wasn't truly exciting until the late innings.

Christian Fury went 1-for-4 with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning, his 22nd bomb of the season, but Robert Gennari was the star of the game with his big grand slam in the seventh inning that provided a good portion of the runs for the Tea Baggers. Mike Van Siclen was hitless in four at-bats for Montreal.

With this victory over Montreal, Boston has now increased their lead over the New York Bums to one and a half games, increasing or decreasing depending on the result of New York's game with the Philadelphia Freedom.

Philadelphia at New York

The Freedom piled on the runs early, and Peter Kostka was able to hold off the New York offense until after Philadelphia had built up a 4-0 lead, as the Freedom would never give up that lead, winning 5-3 and dropping New York to two games out of first place in the race for the East Division with the Boston Tea Baggers.

Edward James went 2-for-5 with a double, scoring one run. Adam West was 2-for-5 and was caught stealing for the 18th time this season.

Peter Kostka improved his record to 13-11 with this victory, lasting five and one-third innings and allowing eight hits and one earned run with one walk and three strikeouts.

Chicago at Baltimore

Chicago's chances at the East-West wildcard worsened as Baltimore clinched the East-West Central with a 6-4 victory over the Transit Authority.

Charlie Matthews was the rare hero tonight, going 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homerun in the fourth inning, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Paco Fernandez also drove in a run, scoring twice on a 1-for-3 day.

Oklahoma at Denver

With Denver's chances at the Central Division dashed, Denver set their sights on locking Chicago out of the wildcard race, and they have at least clinched a tie with a 7-1 victory over the Oklahoma Twisters, who have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Jason Sottile's grand slam in the third inning was more than enough to take care of the Twisters on this night.

Vancouver at Columbus

Columbus is now within two games of the Vasectomy after a 14-5 beatdown was administered to Vancouver in Applewhite Field.

The Pride scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning, and though Vancouver regained a lead of their own with two runs in the very next-half inning, Columbus exploded from there and left Vancouver in their dust.

Jonathan Dehn went 3-for-5, scoring an amazing four times and driving in one run of his own.

New Jersey at Detroit

New Jersey is also within two games of Vancouver, and remains tied with Columbus in the North-South Wildcard race with a 10-6 victory over the DMV today.

Atlanta at Jacksonville

Struggling to remain in the playoff race, Jacksonville got a 9-8 victory over old rival Atlanta at Astroglide Park, pulling within three and a half games of New Orleans, but still facing elimination should the Crunk Machine win today.

Atlanta built an early 4-0 lead, but a five-run sixth and a four-run seventh were just enough to stop Atlanta from picking up the victory, despite a four-run eighth inning from the Hanoi Janes.

Carlos Desantis went 3-for-5, scoring once and driving in a run of his own.

Winston Ghandi hit a double and a two-run homerun as a part of a 2-for-3 day, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

Memphis at New Orleans

New Orleans' fans will have to wait for another day to see their team make it to the playoffs as the first expansion team to make the playoffs, as Memphis was the party poopers with an exciting 8-7 victory in ten innings.

Logan Caldwell went 2-for-5 for the Eels with one run scored, as Memphis continues to live life without Robert Henderson, who won't be back for another three weeks, likely meaning that his season is just about over unless the postseason goes for a VERY long time.

For the Crunk Machine, Andre Chevalier went 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in a run, but Andre's 128th RBI of the season simply wasn't enough.

Tiny Gonzales pitched two scoreless, hitless innings, issuing a single walk in a great relief outing for him that ultimately meant nothing.

October 3rd

Boston at Philadelphia

Boston could not complete the first half of a New York elimination, allowing four runs to the Freedom late in the game as a throwing error to home plate by Justin Smith resulted in the game-winning run scoring for the Freedom in a 4-3 victory, leaving New York within one and a half games of Boston.

Christian Fury went 1-for-4, as his only hit was a solo homerun in the eighth inning that made the score 3-0 and should've been enough for Boston's starter Tim Neal to handle, but Neal lived up to his nickname of "Hack" by being just that in the late innings of this game.

Edward James was hitless in three at-bats with a walk drawn.

New York at Montreal

New York is back within one game of the Tea Baggers after an impressive 12-5 stomping of the Montreal Fritures de Liberte.

Binky Musty won his 18th game of the season despite having an abysmal game by any other standard, his run support was fantastic.

Mike Van Siclen drew three walks in this game, and in his only official at-bat he struck out.

Adam West was not a big factor in this offensive blowout, going 1-for-5 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly, as Flyboy was caught stealing for the 19th time this season.

Denver at Los Angeles

Denver's chances of holding onto the East-West Wildcard are beginning to slip, as Denver suffered a defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Glory Holes, who were able to bust John Propes' bubble of a 20-win season with a 4-1 victory.

Austin Sly went 1-for-3 with a walk in the game.

Baltimore at Chicago

Baltimore had the chance to play spoiler to a Chicago bid for the playoffs, but Chicago was determined to stay in the wildcard race, and they are now within two games of the Denver Douchebags with an exciting 10-9 victory which saw Chicago rally from seven runs down with a seven-run eighth inning, and then a dramatic solo homerun from Benicio Cantu in the bottom of the ninth clinched the game for the Transit Authority, who are staying alive for the Wildcard playoff spot.

After an awesome game two days ago, Charlie Matthews was relegated to backup catcher, entering in the middle of the game and going 1-for-3, scoring once and driving in a run. Paco Fernandez went 1-for-4, scoring a run as well as stealing his 43rd and 44th bases of the season.

Paco also, unfortunately, committed his 22nd error of the season at third base.

Columbus at Vancouver

The Vasectomy's collapse is reaching epic proportions, as Columbus is now within one game and New Jersey is within a game and a half after Columbus' sound 5-1 defeat of Vancouver.

Jonathan Dehn went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 21st time caught stealing this season.

Detroit at New Jersey

Detroit was helpless against Miguel Moldonado, who dominated the DMV with eleven strikeouts en route to a 3-0 Clerks victory, which keeps New Jersey tied with Columbus for the North-South Wildcard but also brings them within one game of division-leading Vancouver.

New Orleans at Atlanta

Before Jacksonville could even take the field for their game against Memphis, their chances at the playoffs were already over.

Almost a half-hour before Jacksonville was scheduled to play their game, New Orleans finished off a 6-4 defeat of Atlanta, becoming the first of the four original expansion teams (Oklahoma, Kansas City, Montreal, New Orleans) to reach the playoffs.

Andre Chevalier went 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, his 129th of the season.

Carlos Desantis, on the other hand, went hitless in three at-bats but did score on the one time he reached base on a walk.

Tiny Gonzales had another great day on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only one walk once again as he was on the mound during New Orleans' comeback, scoring three runs in the top of the ninth to take that 6-4 lead over Atlanta. Gonzales improves his record to 8-5 with the victory.

October 5th

Denver at Baltimore

Denver has clinched the East-West Wildcard, eliminating Chicago from playoff contention with a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Crime Spree, who have already qualified for the postseason.

Eric LeBeau dropped to 14-13 on the season, despite pitching eight and one-third innings, they were very unsatisfactory innings.

Paco Fernandez went 1-for-4 on the day.

Montreal at Boston

A late rally from Montreal was not enough, as Boston was able to hang on by a score of 10-9, as a New York loss will take Boston to the postseason.

Mike Van Siclen was hitless in three at-bats with a walk.

Christian Fury had a busy day, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI thanks to a sixth inning solo homerun. Fury also stole his 28th base of the season and was caught for the 16th time as well.

Las Vegas at New York

New York held on for as long as they could, but Paul Wiley and the Las Vegas Jokers were able to play spoiler to the Bums' postseason chances, eliminating them from playoff contention with a 2-0 shutout of the Bums at Maytag Cardboard Stadium.

Paul Wiley allowed only two hits in the game, striking out seven and walking two as New York never really had a chance to do anything against him. David Hunter was hitless in a pinch-hitting appearance, and Patrick Hannon went hitless in three at-bats as they did not do much to give Las Vegas the victory. Adam West was not one of the lucky two Bums to get a hit off Paul Wiley, but he did get one of Wiley's two walks, otherwise going hitless in his other three official at-bats.

West was caught stealing for the 20th time the one time that he did get on base.

New Orleans at Columbus

After being on such an incredible hot streak and getting within one game of the Vancouver Vasectomy, Columbus suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Crunk Machine, who might be playing spoiler to Columbus' playoff chances.

Nigel McClain was looking strong through seven innings, allowing only two runs, but the eighth inning killed him, as a questionable call was made to keep him in the game even after New Orleans had erased the 5-2 lead that Columbus had going into that top of the eighth inning. Many Columbus fans have focused their anger not on Scrooge for not being able to deliver in the clutch, but the mananger for keeping McClain in so long and allowing him to give up those four crucial runs which might have been attributed to the final loss that Columbus is able to suffer.

For the record, McClain has fallen to 12-10 with this loss, a seven and one-third inning performance, allowing six earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight and allowing only one walk.

Andre Chevalier did not contribute to the collapse of McClain, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout on a very vanilla day for "C'est Bon".

Jonathan Dehn has every right to be the most angry person on either team after this loss, as he went 4-for-5, having an amazing day with two runs scored and two RBI, getting within a homerun of the cycle thanks to two triples, a single and a double, but it was all for naught as Columbus might not be able to see the playoffs now.

Indianapolis at New Jersey

In a shocker at 7-11 Stadium, the Clerks were unable to complete a rally after being down 6-1 going into the seventh inning stretch, falling short with a 6-5 defeat at the hands of the Indianapolis Ignition. With the loss, the Clerks and the Columbus Pride remain tied in the North-South Wildcard race, and now Vancouver has a chance to clinch the North Division with a victory over the Kansas City Real McCoys, something which seems to be a foregone conclusion against the hapless team from Missouri.

Kansas City at Vancouver

In the late game of the night from the Deferens Dome, Kansas City was the last hope for New Jersey and Columbus, who both wanted that North Division despite being the frontrunners for the North-South wildcard race.

Vancouver fans were shocked to see that Kansas City, which would just barely be avoiding 100 losses this year, came to play and mean SOMETHING in this playoff race. In the top of the ninth, the score remained tied at 3-all, and Andrew Cuprik shocked Vancouver to its core with a double to deep leftfield, scoring Marcus Wernicke and giving Kansas City a 4-3 lead. But they weren't done. Carl Bolch was unable to get that third out to send things to the bottom of the ninth inning, and fouled things up with a walk and a hit batter, loading the bases for Milan Essig who slapped a two-run single, giving Kansas City a three-run lead as Vancouver fans were disgusted with this unfortunate turn of events.

Dean Potts finally struck out looking to end the top of the ninth inning, but Vancouver's chances of clinching the North Division on this night seemed very unlikely, unless they could come up with at least three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Sure enough, Vancouver went down 1-2-3 in the final inning, losing 6-3 as Columbus and New Jersey remained in the chase for the North Division, both one game behind Vancouver going into the final day of the season.

October 6th

The eyes of the world were now fixed on the Vancouver Vasectomy, Columbus Pride and New Jersey Clerks as they continued their three-way war for the North Division and the North-South Wildcard. Vancouver is in the middle of a four-game losing streak, and looks to be suffering the worst of the three teams, although all three of them lost yesterday.

New Jersey at New Orleans

Bill Volker's RBI single in the top of the eighth gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead that they would hold onto as the game came to a close, with New Jersey pulling within a half game of the Vancouver Vasectomy and pulling a half gae ahead of the Columbus Pride, as their playoff chances are looking very pretty.

Andre Chevalier was totally ineffective in four at-bats, getting no hits.

Columbus at Kansas City

After keeping Vancouver from clinching the North Division yesterday, Kansas City now had a chance to make an impact on a much bigger scale. A win over the Columbus Pride would be enough to not only knock Columbus out of contention for the North Division, but the North-South Wildcard race as well, knocking them completely out of the playoffs despite the fact that Kansas City is about three or four years away from a chance at the postseason.

But there would be no miracle at Kansas City Stadium tonight, as Columbus opened up a can of whoopass early and kept it open, en route to a refreshing 8-4 defeat of the Real McCoys, staying in the race for both the North Division and the North-South wildcard race.

Jonathan Dehn went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a double in the seventh inning.

Vancouver at Indianapolis

The pressure was now on Vancouver to deliver on the road, in the final game of the season, or find themselves in a three-way tie with the Columbus Pride and the New Jersey Clerks. If they could actually break their four-game losing streak with a victory over Indianapolis, New Jersey and Columbus would be left to fight it out for the North-South Wildcard and Vancouver could safely advance to the playoffs.

A leadoff homerun from Brett Smith set the tone for what the game was going to be like, a stalemate as Vancouver could only manage that one run and one more hit, but was able to keep the Ignition from scoring any runs despite having more hits. Finally, the Ignition broke through and took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth. The horror for Vancouver continued as Indianapolis added another run in the bottom of the seventh, and Vancouver now seemed doomed to be locked in a three-way tie with their two rivals.

Vancouver managed a run in the top of the eighth to cut Indy's lead to one run, and with three outs remaining, Vancouver now needed to deliver more than ever or suffer their fifth consecutive loss, a degrading one that would result in a three-way tie. Victor Dicks slapped a two-out double, keeping Vancouver alive and having the tying run on second in the form of pinch runner Elby Borras. Brett Smith, who had hit that leadoff homerun all those innings ago and had yet to pick up his second hit now had a chance at coming up huge...

...but all he could do was strikeout swinging.

Indianapolis wins, and we have a three-way tie.

So, how does this three-way tie work?

Well, we combine the head-to-head records of the three teams, which means the combined record of Columbus against New Jersey and Vancouver, New Jersey's combined record against Columbus and Vancouver, etc.

That looks a little something like this:

Columbus 19-10 .655

New Jersey 16-14 .533

Vancouver 10-21 .322

Therefore, designations are given to each team: A, B, C. Columbus is Team C, New Jersey is Team B, and Vancouver is Team A.

Now, the schedule is as follows:

October 7th

Vancouver at New Jersey

October 8th

Columbus at Winner of Vancouver/New Jersey

Should Columbus lose the October 8th game, there will also be another game on October 9th.

October 9th

Loser of Vancouver/New Jersey at Columbus

This is to ensure that all the teams are ranked by winning percentage at the conclusion of this playoff. If Columbus wins on October 8th, this game will not be necessary as all the teams will be ranked by winning percentage and all the ties will have been broken.

Here are the other six playoff teams that have been confirmed:

Boston Tea Baggers

Baltimore Crime Spree

Seattle Frasiers

Denver Douchebags

Memphis Eels

New Orleans Crunk Machine

THE NORTH THREE-WAY TIE

VANCOUVER VASECTOMY AT NEW JERSEY CLERKS

New Jersey built a big lead early in the game and Vancouver never stood a chance, as the Vasectomy will have to rely on Columbus losing to New Jersey now, or Vancouver's chances at the playoffs will be over.

The Clerks' 8-4 victory was driven by Eddie Morgan's 3-for-4 performance, scoring one run and driving in four, most of those RBI coming from a big three-run homerun in the fifth inning that more or less snuffed out any chance for Vancouver to capture a victory at 7-11 Stadium.

With this victory, New Jersey has now guaranteed themselves a playoff spot, but whether or not it will be as the division champions or the Wildcard champions will depend on if they can beat Columbus when the Pride come to town tomorrow.

COLUMBUS PRIDE AT NEW JERSEY CLERKS

The Pride were facing a situation where if they lost this game, they would be in a Do or Die situation with Vancouver for the Wildcard, but Columbus was hoping that they could dispatch of New Jersey now, especially if they should find themselves meeting again later in the postseason.

As it turned out, a three-run inning in the top of the fourth proved to be enough to counter the Clerks' offense on this day, as New Jersey had to settle for being the North-South Wildcard champions, suffering a 4-2 loss to the Pride at home.

The Clerks were obviously not too disappointed with this result, as most players claimed that since they had already gotten into the playoffs, this game might as well have been for kicks.

Columbus obviously took it much more serious, which was a key factor in their victory. Jonathan Dehn, as serious as he was, still went hitless in all five of his at-bats. Ewiak drew two walks on a 1-for-3 day, having recently returned from injury to play for the Pride in the postseason.

Well, there we go. The eight teams qualifying for the postseason are final, and the remaining sixteen teams will go into the postseason tournament to decide who will get a cash bonus for their squad.

The September/October recap will include the pairings for both the playoffs and the postseason tournament.

Normally Paco does good in the regular season and poor in the post season. Maybe this year will be different since the regular season didn't go so hot.

That is a ton of errors.

SFBL

September/October 2020

Best Team in September/October: The New Jersey Clerks. With an amazing 22-8 month, New Jersey created an amazing rally, getting themselves into the Wildcard chase and eventually winning the North-South Wildcard in a wild finish that featured a three-way tie between New Jersey, the Columbus Pride and the Vancouver Vasectomy. The Clerks are certainly the hottest team going into the postseason, as they're feeling the burn.

Worst Team in September/October: The Kansas City Real McCoys. Their final month was a further plunge into oblivion, as they barely were able to avoid 100 losses in a season with an abysmal 7-21 record in the final weeks of the season. Kansas City certainly wasn't the first expansion team to reach the playoffs like the Crunk Machine, and there's a good chance that it'll be awhile before they taste that feeling.

THE SFBL POSTSEASON

OCTOBER 12TH

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS BALTIMORE CRIME SPREE

GAME 1

Tim Neal and the Boston Tea Baggers showed they weren't taking any crap in Game 1 as Neal threw a complete game two-hitter for his fifth postseason victory and the Boston offense combined for fifteen hits and five runs in a 5-1 victory over the Crime Spree in Game 1.

Christian Fury went 2-for-4 with a big two-run double in the fifth inning with two outs giving Boston a three-run lead just before the halfway point of the ballgame. In addition to his two RBI, he was walked once and caught trying to steal a base.

Paco Fernandez struck out twice and was walked once in an 0-for-2 day, eventually scoring a lone run off that walk.

Fabio Mercurio also pitched a complete game in a losing effort, giving up a career high number of hits to the Tea Baggers.

Boston leads series 1 game to 0

WP - Tim Neal (1-0, CG, 2 HA, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 Ks)

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

SEATTLE FRASIERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 1

Bill Cobos took no prisoners, carrying a no-hitter into the top of the eighth and dominating the Seattle Frasiers with a one-hit complete game shutout as Denver trampled Seattle 9-0 to take the first game of the best-of-seven series.

Tipsy Gesner was shelled in his three innings of starting work, allowing six earned runs on five hits before being yanked.

"The Velvet Hammer" RJ Frost, in what could be one of his last postseason appearances, got off on the wrong foot with a hitless day in three appearances. The only Frasier to get a hit off Cobos was Gilles Godinez, who broke up the no-hitter bid for Cobos in the top of the eighth inning.

SEATTLE 0, DENVER 9

Denver leads series 1 game to 0

WP - Bill Cobos (1-0, CG, 1 HA, 0 ER, 5 BB, 4 Ks)

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH PLAYOFFS

NEW ORLEANS CRUNK MACHINE VS COLUMBUS PRIDE

GAME 1

New Orleans seemed to have things in control in their first postseason appearance, but all was not it seemed. New Orleans coughed up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh, allowing five runs in the bottom half of the inning to the Pride's offense as Columbus hung on for a come-from-behind victory in Game 1.

Andre Chevalier went 1-for-5 with a strikeout as his first postseason appearance in his first SFBL season didn't quite work out to plan.

On the Columbus side, things were no better, as Jonathan Dehn was walked twice and was hitless in his two official at-bats, driving home a run with a sacrifice fly, however. Dehn also stole his first base of the postseason during one of his walks.

Jesse Ewiak wasn't able to get anything done, striking out twice in a hitless day for all of his four at-bats.

On the mound, Nigel McClain put forth an average performance, lasting six and one-third innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits, walking three and striking out seven. However, he was pulled in the top of the seventh, before Columbus could launch their offensive comeback, leaving Nigel with the dreaded no-decision. A reason to be "Scrooge"y, indeed.

Tiny Gonzales performed an inning of relief, giving up no runs on one hit and walking two after William Tienhaara took his exit, having been shelled for five runs on seven hits, despite only one of them being earned.

NEW ORLEANS 3, COLUMBUS 5

Columbus leads series 1 game to 0

LP - William Tienhaara (0-1, 6 2/3 IP, 7 HA, 5 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 Ks)

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH PLAYOFFS

NEW JERSEY CLERKS VS MEMPHIS EELS

GAME 1

Logan Caldwell's struggle to fill Robert Henderson's big shoes left behind by his injury continues to prove difficult as, despite scoring twice and driving in two runs in a 2-for-5 day, Memphis still fell short, losing to the New Jersey Clerks 5-3 as they took the first game in the best-of-seven series.

Logan led off the game with a solo homerun off Moldonado, and later drove in his second run with a double in the fifth inning, however, New Jersey rallied in the late innings, as Memphis' bullpen was powerless to stop it, after Claudio Galaviz showed rare signs of weakness. New Jersey rallied from down 3-0 to take a 4-3 lead after the top of the eighth, and added one more run in the next inning to drive a stake into the heart of the Eels.

NEW JERSEY 5, MEMPHIS 3

New Jersey leads series 1 game to 0

WP - Miguel Moldonado (1-0, 7 2/3 IP, 5 HA, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 Ks)

LP - Chris Addington (0-1, entered game in the eighth inning)

S - Geordie Cavell (1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 15 minutes

Player of the Game: Eladio Olvera (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, solo homerun in the ninth inning)

Game Notes: Eladio Olvera hit the longest homerun of his career, it went 449 feet.

SFBL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT

CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET: ROUND 1

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 7, JACKSONVILLE JACKOFFS 6 (13 INNINGS)

In yet another shocker, Montreal advances to the Championship Bracket final with a heart-stopping victory over the Jacksonville Jackoffs, who were able to ward off all upsetters until now.

After scoring three runs in the top of the 13th inning, Jacksonville struck back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, and seemed like they were going to pull off a miracle and tie the game up again with the tying run on second, but Bruno Soto flied out to left-center to end the game.

Mike Van Siclen (.250/0/3) went 2-for-5, driving in two runs with a ninth inning double and a sacrifice fly in the thirteenth inning, as well as two strikeouts.

Frigid Soul was the winning pitcher today, pitching five and two-thirds innings of one hit baseball, allowing no runs and walking five while striking out three. Unfortunately, Soul threw 104 pitches in that timeframe as well, eliminating him from going too much farther.

ONE-LOSS BRACKET: ROUND 2

Patrick Hannon (.455/0/5) finally has a breakthrough in this game, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs, with a third inning double, and a bases loaded triple in the seventh inning leaving him a homerun short of the cycle. Patrick Hannon was also credited with the only error of the game at third base.

HOUSTON HORNY TOADS 6, DETROIT MOTOR VEHICLES 5

Houston broke a 5-5 tie in the ninth inning with a single run, topping Detroit and remaining in the one-loss bracket.

KANSAS CITY REAL MCCOYS 2, OKLAHOMA TWISTERS 5

After abysmal performances in their first two games, Oklahoma avoids elimination by taking out the Real McCoys.

Jonathan Dehn (.167/0/1) went 1-for-4, stealing his second base of the postseason and doing nothing else of note. Jesse Ewiak (.214/1/2) also went 1-for-4, striking out once. Nigel was cruising along fairly well, giving up runs here and there, but he fell apart in the bottom of the eighth inning, being pulled without registering an out in that inning. CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET: FINAL

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 4, NEW YORK BUMS 10

Montreal tripped over their Cinderella shoes, falling short of winning the Championship bracket against the red-hot New York Bums.

Fans remain optimistic that Montreal can still make plenty of noise in this tournament, still needing two more losses to be eliminated from the tournament.

Mike Van Siclen (.214/0/3) was hitless in two at-bats, striking out in both and drawing two walks that were unable to produce any runs.

Adam West (.389/0/5) was a superstar in this game, getting three hits in five at-bats, all of them doubles. Unfortunately, Adam was only able to drive in one run, but he did score twice in the game.

ONE-LOSS BRACKET: ROUND 3

JACKSONVILLE JACKOFFS 3, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY 5

This was a rough game for Jacksonville. Jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a first inning, two-out, two-run homerun from Brandon Mariano, Jacksonville held onto that lead until the late innings, when Chicago scored one run in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game up.

Jacksonville held their own, however, and struck back in the top of the tenth inning with a run, breaking the tie at 3-2.

However, Chicago struck right back as Anton Gonzalez slammed a three-run homerun with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning, winning the game for Jacksonville 5-3 as Jacksonville suddenly finds themselves in the Last Chance Bracket after just having been in the Championship Bracket Semi-Final against the Montreal Fritures de Liberte.

Winston Ghandi (.200/0/2) was hitless in four at-bats with a walk.

ATLANTA HANOI JANES 9, CHARLOTTE HARLOTS 4

DETROIT MOTOR VEHICLES 3, VANCOUVER VASECTOMY 6

Vancouver remains alive as the number one seed with a 6-3 victory over the DMV, eliminating them from the postseason tournament.

Kuwatarou Hideo's three RBIs were instrumental in keeping the Vasectomy alive.

PHOENIX ASHES 14, OKLAHOMA TWISTERS 2

In what is no doubt the biggest tournament disappointment, the Oklahoma Twisters are out of the postseason tournament, routed by the Phoenix Ashes in their death sentence. The Ashes scored in every inning except the sixth and ninth in their lambasting of the Twisters, who entered the tourney as the #3 seed.

Gabriel Cirillo was destroyed by the Ashes, allowing six earned runs on six hits in two and two-third innings.

NEW ORLEANS CRUNK MACHINE VS COLUMBUS PRIDE

GAME 5

New Orleans' first postseason run could be very soon coming to an end, as Columbus was able to defeat New Orleans 7-3, taking a three games to two advantage in the best-of-seven series.

Jonathan Dehn (.267/0/2) was 2-for-3 on the day, scoring one run and driving in one, hitting a double in the third inning, a sacrifice hit and a sacrifice fly, not to mention an error in centerfield. Jesse Ewiak (.278/2/4) hit his second homerun of the postseason in a 2-for-4 day, scoring once and driving in two runs with that two-run homerun in the fifth inning that gave Columbus a 5-2 lead at the time.

Andre Chevalier (.200/1/1) continues a abysmal postseason with a 1-for-5 day, getting caught stealing to add insult to injury.

Memphis is staying alive with a big 9-3 victory over the Clerks on the power of two back-to-back three-run innings in the sixth and seventh innings.

Logan Caldwell (.417/1/3) is now definitely the leading offensive producer on a Memphis offense that is lagging, going 3-for-6 with a run scored and an RBI with one strikeout, a double in the first inning, and his first time caught stealing in the postseason.

PHOENIX ASHES 2, VANCOUVER VASECTOMY 10

Vancouver's six-run first inning was enough to destroy the Ashes, and they just built on from there as they are determined not to lose as the #1 seed.

Rolf Dreikugeln did not play during Phoenix's entire postseason.

Andre Chevalier (.250/1/1) has an average postseason, going 2-for-4 with a double in the sixth inning.

Jonathan Dehn (.278/0/2) goes to the next round with a 1-for-3 day, stealing his third base. Jesse Ewiak (.364/2/5) is the offensive leader so far this postseason, with a 3-for-4 day today, with one RBI.

SFBL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT

ONE-LOSS BRACKET: FINALS

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 3, ATLANTA HANOI JANES 5

Montreal tried a late underdog rally, but in the end Atlanta avenged their Championship Bracket loss, winning the One-Loss Bracket and advancing to the Postseason Tournament Semi-Final where they will face the winner of the Last Chance Bracket.

Mike Van Siclen (.200/0/3) was hitless in two at-bats with a strikeout, and was ejected in the fifth for arguing that one strikeout.

Carlos Desantis (.346/1/1) went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a first inning double.

LAST CHANCE BRACKET: ROUND 4

Eliminated: LA, KC, DET, OKL, PHI, CHA, LV, PHO

HOUSTON HORNY TOADS 5, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY 8

The #2 seed is still alive as Chicago put together two big innings late to knock off Houston and eliminate them from the tournament.

Arne Snider's three-run homerun in the sixth inning was very instrumental in getting Chicago the lead and distancing themselves from the Toads.

INDIANAPOLIS IGNITION 5, VANCOUVER VASECTOMY 6

In a close scare, the #1 seed was almost eliminated from the tournament as the Ignition staged a late comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the eighth to close the gap but never overcoming it, as Vancouver hung on to advance to the next round of the Last Chance Bracket.

Indianapolis' final inning was disappointing, as they went down 1-2-3. Indianapolis' eighth inning was much more exciting, as they had runners on first and second with two outs and a chance to take the lead, that was blown by Juvenal Echeandia.

OCTOBER 21ST

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 1

Tim Neal won a pitcher's duel in the opening contest of the EWCC, holding Denver to one run on three hits in seven innings of work. However, he ended up with a no-decision, as Boston was unable to take the lead until Rod Pocahontas hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth, giving Boston a 2-1 lead that was also the final score.

Bill Cobos pitched a complete game in the losing effort, allowing two earned runs on five hits, walking five and striking out seven.

Christian Fury (.391/2/12) may be the leader of the team in RBIs and one of two players on the Tea Baggers who have hit a homerun in the postseason, but he was hitless in three at-bats with a walk and two strikeouts today.

BOSTON 2, DENVER 1

Boston leads series 1 game to 0

WP - Shane Keller (1-0, entered game in the eighth inning)

LP - Bill Cobos (1-1, CG, 5 HA, 2 ER, 5 BB, 7 Ks)

S - Frederick Dale (2)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 9 minutes

Player of the Game: Tim Neal (7 1/3 IP, 3 HA, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 Ks, no-decision)

Game Notes: John Personeni was injured while throwing a ball.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 1

Nigel McClain is having a rough postseason that is continuing with this game, as he remains winless in three starts, allowing six runs on seven hits in six innings, walking five and striking out five as New Jersey crushed the Pride in Game 1 by a score of 10-2.

Jonathan Dehn (.286/0/2) struck out once in a 1-for-3 day, his only hit a double in the first inning that resulted in nothing but being left on base. Jesse Ewiak (.308/2/5) had one of his worst batting performances in recent memory, meanwhile, going hitless in four at-bats, striking out every single time.

Trent Morphy's sixth inning homerun off Nigel McClain was one of his three hits on the day and was also the first step in New Jersey distancing themselves from Columbus, but the ultimate slap in the face to the Pride came when Hadley Reabold slapped a bases loaded double, clearing the bases as Reabold collected his only hit of the day.

NEW JERSEY 10, COLUMBUS 2

New Jersey leads series 1 game to 0

WP - Miguel Moldonado (3-0, 8 IP, 6 HA, 2 ER, 0 BB, 9 Ks)

LP - Nigel McClain (0-2, 6 IP, 7 HA, 6 ER, 5 BB, 5 Ks)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 31 minutes

Player of the Game: Trent Morphy (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K, solo homerun in sixth inning)

Game Notes: None.

LAST CHANCE BRACKET: SEMI-FINAL

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 3, CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY 1

In yet another rematch of an earlier tournament confrontation, Montreal once again defeated the Transit Authority, this time to knock them out of the tournament completely.

Mike Van Siclen (.174/0/3) was hitless in three at-bats with a strikeout in a day where both teams combined for only five hits. Chicago actually had runners on first and second with two outs and down two runs, but Brant Wrankmore, representing the game-winning run, struck out swinging to end the game and Chicago's run in the postseason tournament.

JACKSONVILLE JACKOFFS 17, VANCOUVER VASECTOMY 5

Vancouver's quest through the Last Chance Bracket after two consecutive disappointing losses in the first three games has finally come to an end, as Jacksonville crushed Vancouver by twelve runs to enter the final of the Last Chance Bracket and eliminate the number one seed from the Postseason Tournament.

Winston Ghandi (.280/0/6) went 2-for-6, scoring twice and driving in three runs with a walk and two strikeouts, as his double to right-center in the second inning with runners on first and second put Jacksonville ahead 4-0 early. By later in the game, Jacksonville was racking up the runs and decimating the Vasectomy.

OCTOBER 22ND

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 2

Denver tried to make an amazing comeback late, but they were stopped just short as Denver could not overcome an 8-3 deficit going into the bottom of the ninth and finished down two games to zero in the best-of-seven series with an 8-7 loss.

Ironically, the game began with a four-run inning as well, as Boston jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on the power of a two-RBI double from Raimundo Robledo and three consecutive walks late in the inning from Douchebag starter Tony Saltsman.

Christian Fury (.357/3/13) hit a solo homerun with two outs in the eighth inning, which was a key run to score, otherwise Denver would've been able to tie the game with their four-run rally in the ninth. Fury's homerun was the only hit for him in five at-bats today, however, as he struck out all of the other four times he came to the plate.

BOSTON 8, DENVER 7

Boston leads series 2 games to 0

WP - Cris Bernardi (3-0, 7 2/3 IP, 5 HA, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 Ks)

LP - Tony Saltsman (1-1, 4 IP, 7 HA, 5 ER, 5 BB, 9 Ks)

S - Frederick Dale (3)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 57 minutes

Player of the Game: Luciano Bubela (3-for-6, R, 2 RBI, K, 2 2B)

Game Notes: Robert Gennari was ejected in the second inning for arguing a strike three call.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 2

Despite Roberto Velez getting shelled for five runs in the top of the first inning, he recovered well and the offense covered for his mistakes as well, as the Pride was able to rally and take a 6-5 lead by the bottom of the fifth.

After Trent Morphy crossed the plate for Velez' sixth earned run, he was finally pulled from the mound, nevertheless given much respect for his effort and keeping the game close while the offense evened things up. Laron Eickenloff came on in his place, and in the bottom of the seventh, after four homeruns from Pride team members earlier in the game, Nathan Smith made it five with a two-run bomb that broke the tie, giving the Pride an 8-6 lead and very much pleasing the rambuctious crowd inside Applewhite Field.

Hadley Reabold slapped a solo homerun in the top of the eighth to cut the Pride's lead down to one run, but the only threat New Jersey could provide after that was in the top of the ninth, as Javier Arocha was able to control himself and slow himself down after throwing a wild pitch, striking out Bill Volker with the tying run on second to end the game, evening the series between these two teams at one game a piece.

Jonathan Dehn (.320/0/2) went 2-for-4 on the day with his first triple of the postseason in the fifth inning, scoring one batter later after a Jesse Ewiak sacrifice fly brought him home. Dehn was also caught stealing for the first time in the postseason after his second hit.

Speaking of Ewiak (.310/2/6), his only RBI is that sacrifice fly (the first of the postseason for him), as he was 1-for-3 otherwise with a strikeout.

NEW JERSEY 7, COLUMBUS 8

Series tied at 1 game a piece

WP - Laron Eickenloff (1-0, entered game in the sixth inning)

LP - Ken Barendse (0-1, entered game in the fifth inning, 2 1/3 IP, 3 HA, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 Ks)

S - Javier Arocha (4)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 46 minutes

Player of the Game: Neall Isaacson (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, K, 2 HR [solo homeruns in the first and fifth innings])

Game Notes: Cletus Mcclain was ejected in the eighth inning for arguing a strike three call.

LAST CHANCE BRACKET: FINAL

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 10, JACKSONVILLE JACKOFFS 0

Not only was Montreal able to knock off the Jackoffs and add them to the list of SFBL giants that they've knocked off, but they did it in such convincing fashion that one must wonder if this lowly #16 seeded team is destined for at least second place, if not more in this inaugural Postseason Tournament.

Montreal did their scoring in bursts, scoring four runs in the first inning and six in the sixth inning, all the while holding Jacksonville to absolutely no runs on only five hits. Most of this work was done by Jeff Casano, 3-0 in the postseason with a 1.23, and the ashamed owner of a 6.12 ERA during the regular season.

The transformation of the Fritures de Liberte into legitimate contenders seemingly overnight has taken the SFBL world by surprise. Montreal's tour of various cities (some more than once) has gathered support as they move on, as more Quebecers have joined their cause with each passing upset of a big name.

Now, Montreal is guaranteed to at least be in third place, but they're obviously shooting for more as they enter the Tournament Semi-Final against Atlanta. They're on thin ice, as they have to beat Atlanta two more times to advance to the Grand Final and Atlanta only has to beat them once, but Montreal has never been more confident in the history of their franchise.

OCTOBER 24TH

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 3

As the series traveled to Boston with Boston ahead by two games, it seemed that a trip to the SFBL Championship was in the bag.

But Denver is going to make it close, as Boston never got a chance to even get started in Game 3, and by the time they forced some runs across the plate, it was far too late. Denver led from opening to closing, scoring an amazing six runs in the first inning and keeping that lead padded as they took Game 3 9-6, cutting Boston's lead in the best-of-seven series in half.

The Tea Baggers can still close out the series at The Sack with two consecutive wins, and Boston seems to have one in the bag with Tim Neal hitting the mound for Game 4.

Jason Sottile's three RBI all came in the top of the first with a three-run homerun that made up half of the runs in that big first inning for the Douchebags.

Christian Fury (.355/3/13) continues a very solid postseason with a 1-for-3 day, scoring twice. Fury was caught stealing for the second time in the postseason, but he also stole his third base. Together with Raimundo Robledo, they have combined for six homeruns and twenty-three RBI. In addition, Raimundo and Christian are the only two Tea Baggers who have a homerun in the postseason so far.

DENVER 9, BOSTON 6

Boston leads series 2 games to 1

WP - John Propes (2-0, 7 2/3 IP, 11 HA, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 6 Ks)

LP - John Brown (0-1, 1 IP, 5 HA, 6 ER, 1 BB, 0 Ks)

S - Jim Field (3)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 45 minutes

Player of the Game: John Tripp (2-for-3, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 2B)

Game Notes: None.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 3

Despite David Menchaca hitting for the cycle, Columbus still wasn't able to take a crucial Game 3 at 7-11 Stadium, falling 6-4 as New Jersey takes a two game to one lead in the best-of-seven series.

Menchaca set a career high for hits in a game with his four hits in five at-bats, as the 26 year-old solidified his names in the record book as a rare player who hit for the cycle in a playoff game. Unfortunately, he was only able to get two RBI and two runs scored out of it, as his double and triple were done with no one on base, and his homerun was a solo effort.

Jonathan Dehn (.300/0/2) had a lot to do with the lack of RBIs for Menchaca, as he went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Jesse Ewiak (.294/2/7) was only slightly more successful, also going 1-for-5 with two strikeouts but at least getting an RBI.

COLUMBUS 4, NEW JERSEY 6

New Jersey leads series 2 games to 1

WP - Rickey Ramsey (1-1, entered game in the sixth inning)

LP - Haden Barnes (1-1, entered game in the sixth inning)

S - Geordie Cavell (4)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 50 minutes

Player of the Game: David Menchaca (4-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B, solo homerun in the ninth inning)

Game Notes: 42 minute rain delay in third inning. David Menchaca hit the longest homer of his career, it went 426 feet. David Menchaca set a career high for hits in a game!

SFBL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL

FIRST TEAM TO THREE LOSSES IS ELIMINATED

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE (2 LOSSES) VS ATLANTA HANOI JANES (1 LOSS)

MONTREAL FRITURES DE LIBERTE 5, ATLANTA HANOI JANES 9

When it was all said and done, Atlanta was able to do only what the other team in the final three teams was able to do: Beat Montreal.

Not only that, but they did it twice, and they did it two ensure that they would at least get second place in the inaugural SFBL Postseason Tournament.

Montreal has now finished in third and is guaranteed a payout of $250,000 for the team. However, Atlanta will be playing for a $1,000,000 bonus when they take on the New York Bums for what could be a potential four more games for the Hanoi Janes.

Mike Van Siclen did not play in the final game for the Freedom Fries, sitting on the bench. However, Carlos Desantis (.387/1/2) did play, slapping three singles in five at-bats, scoring three times and driving in a run as he looks to be in great shape going into the Tournament Final against New York.

OCTOBER 25TH

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 4

Tim Neal was not the savior that Boston was hoping for in Game 4, as he lived up to his "Hack" nickname once again in the postseason, continuing a shaky playoffs for him as he was shelled for five runs overall, including four of them in the fourth inning, as Denver hung on from there and got a 5-2 victory, tying the best-of-seven series at two games a piece for the Tea Baggers and the Douchebags.

Neal actually lasted until the ninth inning as the Boston coach hoped that the Tea Baggers would be able to overcome the deficit, but finally he was pulled with one out in the ninth inning, as his record drops to 2-1, unable to deliver that third win and remain undefeated when it mattered the most.

This now ensures that Boston will have to win the series in Denver if they want to advance to the SFBL Championship.

Christian Fury (.382/4/14) was certainly not off his game like Neal, as he went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo homerun in the sixth inning, one of the two runs scored in that inning that was simply not enough to overcome the deficit. Robert Gennari becomes the third member of the Tea Baggers to have hit a homerun in the postseason, with his solo homerun in the sixth. Christian Fury now leads the team in homeruns and RBI, but Raimundo Robledo still has a superior batting average at .441.

DENVER 5, BOSTON 2

Series tied at two games a piece

WP - Bill Cobos (2-1, 6 2/3 IP, 6 HA, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 Ks)

LP - Tim Neal (2-1, 8 1/3 IP, 9 HA, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 5 Ks)

S - Jim Field (4)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 17 minutes

Player of the Game: James Deherrera (1-for-4, R, 2 RBI, K, two-run homerun in the fourth inning)

Game Notes: None.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 4

A heroic two-run homerun from John Scherfenberg in the top of the ninth inning capped off a five-run rally for the Pride as they came back from down 3-0 to win 5-3 and even the series with the Clerks at two games a piece with one more game in Jersey before returning to Applewhite Field for the remaining two games, Game 7 if necessary.

After Hadley Reabold's RBI dobule and Trent Morphy's two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth, things were looking grim for the Pride as they thought that they might be facing a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series.

However, John Scherfenberg got the ball rolling with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and it started to snowball. In the eighth the Pride finally broke New Jersey starter Miguel Moldonado with a Jonathan Dehn RBI single to shallow left field, and even when Jose Feliciano came on in relief of Miguel, the very next better in Jesse Ewiak laced a deep double to left field that brought home Dehn, as Miguel was credited with three runs on the night.

With the game tied, Feliciano remained in the game before allowing a leadoff single to Nathan Smith, which brought on Geordie Cavell for damage control, despite being the closer. Scherfenberg was the very next batter, however, and slapped the two-run homerun. Javier Arocha made sure that the Clerks couldn't get going in the bottom half of the ninth, and Columbus now ensures that if New Jersey wants to move onto the SFBL Championship, they'll have to do it in Columbus.

Jonathan Dehn (.324/0/3) was 2-for-4 with the aforementioned RBI single and later scoring off Ewiak's double. Jesse (.289/2/80 was 1-for-4 with that lone RBI and a strikeout.

Nigel McClain was left with a no-decision in which he didn't make much of an impact, allowing seven hits and three runs, all of them earned, in six innings, walking three and striking out six as his ERA is still dangerously high as the #1 pitcher in the rotation at 5.68.

COLUMBUS 5, NEW JERSEY 3

Despite having a very long break to recharge their batteries, it still took ten innings for the Bums to dispose of the Hanoi Janes, leaving the team from Atlanta one loss away from settling for second place and a $500,000 payout.

Reid Tasar's solo homerun to lead off the tenth inning put a stop to what was a wild game for both teams involved.

Atlanta had an early 5-0 lead after a big five-run third inning, and then added two more runs in the fifth inning. However, New York struck right back and tied the game with a run in the sixth and six runs in the seventh, shellacking the Atlanta bullpen something fierce.

Binky Musty was largely ineffective in his first start since October 16th, allowing six earned runs on ten hits in only four and one-third innings.

Carlos Desantis (.333/1/2) was hitless in five at-bats with a strikeout, but his batting average remains solid at .300+.

Adam West (.333/0/5) was hitless in three at-bats himself, drawing a walk and scoring a run later in that inning, thanks to the fact that he stole second and then quickly stole third for his first two stolen bases of the postseason.

OCTOBER 26TH

2020 SFBL EAST-WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 5

In a very disappointing Game 5, Boston was blasted from the getgo as Cris Bernardi was shelled for four runs in the first inning, without even being able to get a single out. All told, seven runs were scored in that inning, and it only got worse as Denver went on to crush Boston 16-8 in an embarrassing, error-filled defeat for the Tea Baggers that leaves them with a do-or-die situation from here on out in the Conference Championship.

Brantley Suttster's performance was simply outstanding, as he not only went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI and a solo homerun in the seventh inning, but he also drew an amazing three walks in the game, absolutely refusing to not be on base in this game.

Alex Mcconnaughey's homerun in the first inning was a Grand Slam, and it was also the last batter that Cris Bernardi faced, despite only giving up two hits.

Boston committed three errors in this game, and one of them came from Christian Fury (.395/4/15), who was able to somewhat redeem himself with a 2-for-4 day, scoring a run, driving in a run, drawing a walk and striking out once, along with his fourth stolen base of the season. Boston is clearly having some problems, and it will take nothing short of a miracle to keep them from being eliminated in Game 6 at Summer's Eve Field.

DENVER 16, BOSTON 8

Denver leads series 3 games to 2

WP - Tony Saltsman (2-1, 5 IP, 4 HA, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 BB, 4 Ks)

LP - Cris Bernardi (3-1, 0 IP, 2 HA, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 Ks)

Time of Game: 5 hours, 6 minutes

Player of the Game: Brantley Suttster (3-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, solo homerun in seventh inning)

Game Notes: None.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 5

A few runs here and there were all Columbus needed to take a three games to two lead in the best-of-seven series, defeating the New Jersey Clerks 3-1 on Friday night, as Columbus' pitching staff did most of the dirty work to take out the Clerks in this game.

Jonathan Dehn (.289/0/3) was hitless in four at-bats, but did at least draw a walk to prove that he isn't as utterly worthless as it may seem. Jesse Ewiak (.279/3/9) did get something done in the game, however, as his only hit in five at-bats was a solo homerun in the first inning. He then turned everything off for the rest of the game, including two strikeouts in his final few at-bats.

Despite reports denying it otherwise, many Pride players have been ribbing Nigel McClain about trying to win Game 6 for him, as Nigel has a history of not performing well in not only clutch postseason games, but postseason games in general.

COLUMBUS 3, NEW JERSEY 1

Columbus leads series 3 games to 2

WP - Roberto Velez (3-0, 7 IP, 7 HA, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks)

LP - Boris Pacheco (0-2, 6 IP, 7 HA, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks)

S - Javier Arocha (6)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 18 minutes

Player of the Game: Roberto Velez (3.95 postseason ERA)

Game Notes: Roberto Velez extends his winning streak to a career high nine consecutive decisions!

SFBL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT FINAL

FIRST TEAM TO THREE LOSSES IS ELIMINATED

ATLANTA HANOI JANES (2 LOSSES) VS NEW YORK BUMS (0 LOSSES)

ATLANTA HANOI JANES 8, NEW YORK BUMS 4

After watching a huge 7-0 lead dissipate in last night's game, Atlanta decided to play the underdog this time around, and it worked out for the best, as they exchanged leads with New York before finally pulling ahead with a big four-run inning in the top of the ninth, scoring all four runs with two outs and staying alive for at least one more game as New York suffers its first loss of the postseason tournament.

Carlos Desantis (.317/1/3) was 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI with a strikeout added in there. Carlos' lone hit was a double in that ninth inning, with one runner on and two out.

Adam West (.280/0/5) was hitless in four at-bats, drawing one walk on the day.

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS VS DENVER DOUCHEBAGS

GAME 6

Denver had plenty of chances to make a comeback, but they just couldn't do it, as Boston forced a Game 7 with a 4-3 victory.

Christian Fury (.357/4/15) was hitless in four at-bats with two strikeouts.

BOSTON 4, DENVER 3

Series tied at three games a piece

WP - John Brown (1-1, 6 IP, 7 HA, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 Ks)

LP - John Propes (2-1, 8 IP, 9 HA, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 Ks)

S - Hilario Costillo (1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 27 minutes

Player of the Game: Josmir Figuerres (3-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI)

Game Notes: None.

2020 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP

COLUMBUS PRIDE VS NEW JERSEY CLERKS

GAME 6

The Pride was one out away from advancing to the SFBL Championship...but they couldn't hang on to a 3-0 lead, and actually allowed six runs in the inning as New Jersey takes the Pride to Game 7 with a 6-3 victory over Columbus in their own backyard.

Jonathan Dehn (.262/0/3) was hitless again in four at-bats, certainly contributing to Columbus' eventual collapse. Jesse Ewiak (.277/3/9) was 1-for-4 on the day, but still wasn't contributing anything to the Columbus cause.

Many Pride fans are now dreading the fact that their fate will once again be in the hands of Nigel McClain, the starter for Game 7.

NEW JERSEY 6, COLUMBUS 3

Series tied at three games a piece

WP - Ken Barendse (1-1, entered game in the seventh inning)

LP - Javier Arocha (0-1)

S - Geordie Cavell (5)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 11 minutes

Player of the Game: Eddie Morgan (1-for-3, R, 3 RBI)

Game Notes: 48 minute rain delay in second inning.

SFBL POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT FINAL

FIRST TEAM TO THREE LOSSES IS ELIMINATED

ATLANTA HANOI JANES (2 LOSSES) VS NEW YORK BUMS (1 LOSS)

NEW YORK BUMS 5, ATLANTA HANOI JANES 2

Thanks to a four-run inning in the eighth, the New York Bums were able to easily surmount a 2-0 deficit going into the seventh inning stretch, coming out on top and winning the SFBL Postseason Tournament and a $1,000,000 bonus for their team. Atlanta, in finishing second place, will receive $500,000.

Carlos Desantis' postseason comes to an end with a .295 batting average, one homerun and three RBI as he goes hitless in three at-bats in this game, drawing a walk.

Adam West (.310/0/5) was 2-for-4 in his final postseason game, scoring once and stealing two more bases for a total of four in the postseason.

Frigid Soul left the game just as New York was beginning their comeback, leaving him with a no-decision despite pitching a fine six innings, allowing only one earned run on two hits, walking four and striking out seven, as his postseason ERA is a crispy clean 0.77, despite only having two starts.

Wow... That Game 7 for Boston - Denver was just all sorts of fuckered up.

Nice post-season by me, but not quite enough... Oh well, at least I know we're going in the right direction in Boston.

Issues to discuss:

1. Moving Teams

Even though the Indianapolis Ignition and the New Jersey Clerks are the past two SFBL champions, it doesn't change the fact that these two teams have the most boring names in the league. Especially Indianapolis. That's why I have recently proposed a change of venue for these two teams to freshen them up a bit.

I've decided that New Jersey should move to Quahog and become the Quahog Quagmires. All of you Family Guy fans should realize that this is a fantastic idea.

As for the Ignition...I'm not sure. As long as it's some team in the center of North America...Mexico City, perhaps? I'll be fine with it. I just don't want to do any divisional realignment. That would be great if we could avert that problem.

2. SFBL Talent Pool

There's a good chance that we have possibly reached a peak in the number of people we are going to get involved in this league.

I would like to propose that should we not get any new blood in the near future, that we allow a person to have a batter and a pitcher in the SFBL at the same time at all times. This will expand the players and spread them out amongst the teams (hopefully), which means that we shouldn't have to deal with non-TSM teams winning the SFBL League Championship like we've had in the past two years.

3. Euthanasia Rule

As most of you know by now, I have added a Euthanasia Rule that will allow me to "kill" your player off, with the consequence being that your points that go towards creating a new player will be cut in half, since this is not a very honorable way to go out. For some players like Brandon Rhodes and Joseph Corbin, however, this might be an attractive option compared to others. Fact is, having half of the points does not mean that your player will be terrible, it only means that it will more than likely not be as good as it could be with the full amount of points.

So, if anyone would like to exercise the Euthanasia Rule, let me know before I start the next season so we can get that out of the way.

20 points divided among four categories, Contact Hitting, Power Hitting, Defense and Strike Zone Judgment.

I'd like to hear everyone's opinions on possible new teams in Quahog and Mexico City being moved from New Jersey and Indianapolis, respectively. And also the one batter one pitcher at all times.

I think moving the teams would be cool. I don't pay much attention to either of those teams anyway. And Mexico City's just fine. "C'est Bon" definitely approves of Ciudad de Mexico! Any clue as to what the nickname would be?

Will these be expansion teams, or will Indy and NJ just move there? I love the Quahog idea especially. I suggest the logo being Quagmire's head, but rocking side to side.

By the way, I'm getting tired with the Pride, I'd like to be leadoff guy somehwere else...preferably a good young team with potential. Any chance I can be moved without a trade?

Nigel's now 1-3 in his career when it comes to series ending games. That's nasty.

Someone should force Al to play. I find it interesting/amusing if he were to statistically break down his own player as well as other parts of the league.

1) No more expansion teams, probably ever. The way the league is now is comfortable to me. Indy would move to Mexico City, and New Jersey would move to Quahog.

2) Jonathan Dehn doesn't qualify for free agency until after the 2022 season, so...no. You better ask for a trade now or suffer and take your chances with the Pride for two years.

Mexico City would likely be called the Mexico City Trabajos Movidos (Moved Jobs/Outsourced Jobs)

2) Considering I already have a pitcher set up in case Fury ends his own career sometime soon, I'll definintely buy into this idea.

3) ...Nope. I'll let him injure himself out of baseball, thanks. :)

Also, how's my contract going to work out? Is it an automatic resign for '21, or not? Tried to determine it from the site, but...

Another page that will be added to the eventual TSM Universe page that I will be creating as a jump-off point for TheSFBL.com:

http://www.thesfbl.com/tsmsalary.html

Explaining the TSM Salary Report:

Name - Your name.

Position - Your position.

Salary - What you make every season.

Through - How long your current contract has you signed until.

Years Left - How many years you have left before qualifying for free agency status, unless you are signed to a contract extension.

Note

-- "Automatic Resign." Once you've played three full seasons, this goes away and turns into:

-- "Arbitration (Estimate: $###)" This goes into effect beginning in your fourth season. Depending on your quality of play, this number may go up or remain at the league minimum of $300,000. After you've played six full seasons, you enter:

-- "Free agent after ####/Free agent!" The former is used during the season to signify that someone will be a free agent at the conclusion of that season. The latter applies to those who do not have a team, whether it be during the off-season going into free agency or during the season after just being released.

-- "Years in Majors" How many seasons you've played for the SFBL.

What about The Revenge for the Mexico City team? With you know, Montezuma's Revenge? Problem is, I'm not a fan of team names that aren't pluralized, like the Heat or Jazz. We could go with Mamavergas (Just check out Agent's thread in GYLO for translation).

I like the idea for having two players, but do they have to be a pitcher and a batter? Can it be any two players?

Also, I know he's been traded, but is there a way to make Tiny a true closer that won't explode him?
