Guest Evolution Report post Posted April 15, 2005 SFBL April 2022 Best Team in April: The Quahog Quagmires. Despite being shown the door rather rudely in the postseason last year, the Quagmires haven't missed a beat, returning this year with "Succotash" Sospiri the new big thing in Quahog, pushing the Quagmires to an 18-9 April. Although Boris Pacheco flew the coop this year, the pitching staff doesn't seem to be suffering too terribly, as Berry Odell, Raul Alvarado and Billie Xiques are the most stable in the starting rotation, with Xiques 4-0 at the end of the month. The offense remains the best part about Quahog, however, as Dehn, Sospiri, Marsch and Reabold will be leading the way this year as Quahog looks to capture their first postseason title since their days as the New Jersey Clerks. Worst Team in April: The Philadelphia Freedom. After surprising everyone by making the playoffs last year, Freedom are being crushed once again, 7-20 in the opening month and already seven games behind of division-leading Montreal. The pitching is the true weak link, as Correy Hurst has lost every single one of his starts, 0-6 with a 9.10 ERA. The offense is somewhat better, but will not nearly be enough to dig this team out of the cellar. Another playoff berth does not seem to be in the cards. TSM PLAYERS IN THE NEWS: Monday, April 23rd, 2022: Player of the Week honors go to Ewiak The North-South Player of the Week award goes to Jesse Ewiak, Columbus' starting first baseman. Ewiak helped his team with an average of .429 and 8 RBI in 28 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! His season numbers are: .321 AVG, 25 hits, 12 doubles, no triples and five longballs, along with 14 RBI and 18 runs scored. Monday, April 30th, 2022: Memphis' Henderson wins Player of the Week award It's the 35th time that the North-South Player of the Week award goes to Memphis' first baseman Robert Henderson. He hit .438 with 8 RBI and slugged .906 in 32 at bats. Tuesday, May 1st, 2022: Sly (COL) wins monthly batter award The North-South Batter of the Month award goes to Austin Sly, Columbus' starting rightfielder. He hit .339 with 32 RBI and slugged .763 in 118 at bats. Tuesday, May 1st, 2022: Columbus' McClain earns Pitcher of the Month award Columbus' pitcher Nigel McClain is the North-South winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. He had an ERA of just 2.72 in 36.1 innings of work in which he struck out 42 hitters. His record in April was 4-1. SFBL Standings Transactions: Detroit: Released 3B Logan Caldwell. That is my only claim to fame in this league, and NO ONE IS TAKING IT AWAY FROM ME! HIT FURBY! HIT ZURN! HIT YOUR LIVES OUT DAMN YOU! Edit: also... Evo, is Trepanier going to be drafted in 2023 or 2024? I know you had said 2024 before, but in your sig it says you're accepting rookies for 2023 season, so I'm a bit confused. Guest Evolution Report post Posted May 4, 2005 TheSFBL.com is going to take some time to update. SFBL May 2022 Best Team in April: The Columbus Pride. Ending April one game behind Quahog in the North, Columbus has now not only taken first place, but now has a four game lead over second place Vancouver, sitting pretty with the best record in the SFBL. Columbus is stellar on offense and pitching, led by Eugene Viljoen (7-2) and Nigel McClain (8-1), and closer Javier Arocha is one of the best closers in the North-South so far with 12 saves. On the offensive side, Neall Isaacson remains a threat, but Keith Locklear and Austin Sly round out a triple threat that has led Columbus to 86 homeruns in 53 games so far this season. Columbus has also scored 143 more runs than their pitching staff have allowed. Worst Team in April: The Houston Horny Toads. Who else? The Toads were an atrocious 6-20 in May, falling way behind in the North-South Central, 13 games behind. The pitching staff has an ERA of 7.16, just one of their stats in which Houston is the worst. The Toads have allowed 144 more runs than they've scored, and their only impressive team stat is walks, in which they've drawn 192, good enough for 11th among the other 24 SFBL teams. Houston can't have good things, and this proves it. Harry Bleise is showing tons of dedication by being the only rat daring enough to stay on this sinking ship. TSM PLAYERS IN THE NEWS: Monday, May 7th, 2022: Ewiak (COL) wins Player of the Week award Columbus' first baseman Jesse Ewiak had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the North-South Player of the Week. Jesse went 12 for 27 (.444), while hitting two homeruns and collecting six RBI. Ewiak has walked 11 times this year and posts a .392 OBP. While batting .346, 47 for 136, he has driven in 25 runs. Monday, May 7th, 2022: Columbus' Ewiak severely injured COLUMBUS - Only hours after being announced as the Player of the Week for the first week of May, Jesse Ewiak injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss nine weeks due to a strained posterior cruciate ligament, according to team specialists. His season features a batting average of .350 (48 hits in 137 AB), 17 doubles, no triples and nine longballs. Ewiak collected 25 RBI and 31 runs as well. He's 9th in the North-South in batting! SFBL Standings Transactions: NONE! Injuries: Monday 5/7/2022 : COL: Jesse Ewiak was injured while running the bases. Diagnosis: Strained Posterior Cruciate Ligament. He is out for about 9 weeks. Guest Evolution Report post Posted May 19, 2005 SFBL June 2022 Best Team in June: The Columbus Pride. Columbus continues to pull away from the competition with an 18-10 record in June. The Pride are now seven games ahead of the Vancouver Vasectomy in the North Division. Austin Sly, Keith Locklear and Neall Isaacson continue to be the anchor of the offense for the team, while Nigel McClain and Eugene Viljoen both seem to be on the fasttrack for a Rocket Wrist award with matching 11-2 records and the only difference being a much lower ERA from Viljoen. Worst Team in June: The Seattle Frasiers. Los Angeles' free fall from the top spot was only topped this month by Seattle, who went 10-18 and continue to fall in the West standings. They are now eight games out of first in the West and are ten games behind in the East-West Wildcard. TSM PLAYERS IN THE NEWS: Tuesday, June 12th, 2022: Claudio Galaviz (non-TSM) earns 300th career win ATLANTA - Memphis' players had every reason to congratulate Claudio Galaviz, who reached a milestone today, winning his 300th game! He struck out one and walked two batters today, allowing two earned runs on eight hits in five and one-third innings. His career features a 2.35 ERA, along with 3,105 strikeouts in 3,691 innings. 'I still remember my first win. But the one today is something special. I'll definitely keep it in my heart!' He has won 20 games 7 times in his career, setting a career high with 25 wins in 2012. It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame as the first pitcher to win 300 career games! The numbers he has put up are well worth it. SFBL Standings Transactions: NONE! Guest Evolution Report post Posted May 30, 2005 Forgot to do this at the end of June. 2022 ALL-STAR SELECTIONS The selections for the 2022 SFBL All-Star Game were announced today. Notable selections include Nigel McClain and Binky Musty both getting their first invitations to the Game and later in the day being declared the starting pitchers for the game as well. East-West Breakdown: Cleo Lebron is the lone rookie in the All-Star Game, being selected thanks to his stellar record so far this season. However, he was overlooked for Binky Musty, who got his first selection for the All-Star Game while en route to another 250+ strikeout season, which will be his fourth consecutive season of such a stat if he can pull it off. In spite of being on pace for an astronomical number of strikeouts, Christian Fury was given his first selection to the All-Star Game, though due to his exhaustion from games previous to the All-Star Game, he is not expected to start at first base for the East-West. Eight of the starting nine for the East-West have hit at least 10 homeruns this season (with the exception of Jerrold Mauder) but none of the offensive starters have hit more than 20. Antwan Adelaide is the only person on the team to have hit 20+ homeruns this season (22), not to mention top the 70 mark in RBI (80). Oliver Lederman and Clifton Drader, two of the most dominant closers in the East-West, will converge on the same team as Drader has been designated as the closer due to his 0.27 ERA, compared to Lederman's 0.87. North-South Breakdown: Nigel McClain, who is in competition with his teammate Eugene Viljoen to capture a Rocket Wrist Award will get the start in this All-Star Game, despite Eugene having an ERA of more than one point less than McClain. All nine starters for the North-South offense have hit 10 or more homeruns, and starter Alex Mcconnaughey and backup second baseman Harry Bleise both have homerun numbers in the 20s. Once again, however, only player has topped 70 RBIs (Neall Isaacson, 72). The pitching is decidely less impressive than the East-West, especially in the bullpen, where designated closer Frederick Dale has 19 saves but a 3.79 ERA. Of course, Carl Bolch, the only other pitcher on the team who is close to being a closer, has blown 6 saves already this season. Number in parentheses is the number of times the player has been elected to the All-Star team. These players were selected for the EW OOTP-Allstar Team : P Cleo Lebron from Denver (1, rookie) P Melvin Brown from Baltimore (1) P Tony Saltsman from Denver (1) P Gill Nowlin from Los Angeles (1) P William Tienhaara from Boston (6) P Binky Musty from New York (1) P Andrew Fasquelle from Oklahoma (6) P Galen Long from Montreal (1) P Clifton Drader from Baltimore (3) P Oliver Lederman from Oklahoma (1) C Dan Downey from Seattle (2) C Jerrold Mauder from Philadelphia (5) 1B Christian Fury from Boston (1) 2B Wilfredo Sauceda from Montreal (2) 3B Raimundo Robledo from Boston (3) SS Antwan Adelaide from Baltimore (2) LF Anton Gonzalez from Chicago (5) CF Matthew Laduke from Philadelphia (2) RF Jose Etenza from Denver (9) 1B Josh Wisley from New York (2) CF Ulrich Hamlett from Boston (4) RF Brent Wassenberg from New York (1) CF Stephen Tampke from New York (2) SS Robert Gennari from Boston (8) 2B Benicio Cantu from Chicago (2) Average all-star appearances: 2.88 Average age: 30.84 These players were selected for the NS OOTP-Allstar Team : P Eugene Viljoen from Columbus (5) P Nigel McClain from Columbus (1) P Berry Odell from Quahog (2) P Alex Avalos from Jacksonville (2) P Jarod Mountney from Vancouver (3) P Raimundo Garcia from Charlotte (1) P Ernest Cresswell from Vancouver (2) P Carey Sips from Quahog (1) P Carl Bolch from Vancouver (1) P Fredrick Dale from Detroit (5) C Jabier Melendez from Atlanta (1) C Bill Volker from Mexico City (4) 1B Alex Mcconnaughey from Atlanta (3) 2B Neall Isaacson from Columbus (10) 3B Steve Hatfield from Atlanta (7) SS Keith Locklear from Columbus (1) LF Dave Sospiri from Quahog (3) CF Manny Donato from Memphis (5) RF Austin Sly from Columbus (2) 1B Robert Henderson from Memphis (14) LF Bruno Soto from Jacksonville (2) LF Lyall Strombeck from Charlotte (1) LF John Scherfenberg from Columbus (8) 2B Mark Arias from Vancouver (5) 2B Harry Bleise from Houston (3) Average all-star apperances: 3.68 Average age: 29.44 THE GAME The East-West's stronger pitching did not hold, and the North-South's offense easily trumped the East-West, shutting them out 5-0 and holding the East-West All-Stars to a measly three hits over the course of the game. North-South starter Nigel McClain pitched three full innings, allowing two hits and striking out two and walking none in 40 pitches, 24 of them for strikes. Alex Avalos then came on in the bottom of the fourth, allowing only one hit in two innings of work and striking out two himself. From there, the door was shut, as Raimundo Garcia and Carl Bolch were near-perfect, pitching a combined four innings and allowing no hits, only one walk and striking out two to firmly close the door on the East-West. After a quick one-two-three inning in the top of the first, Binky Musty quickly fell apart in the second, allowing back to back doubles from Alex Mcconnaughey and Dave Sospiri to leadoff, getting Keith Locklear and Steve Hatfield to strike out swinging in succession but then allowing a two-run homerun to Bill Volker, scoring Sospiri and leaving the bases empty for Austin Sly to jack a homerun right after Volker, making the score 4-0. Musty remained in the game until the top of the fourth, when he was finally replaced by Melvin Brown. Cleo LeBron would later enter in the top of the sixth, but immediately surrendered a solo homerun to Dave Sospiri, representing the last run of the game. Nigel is credited with the win while Musty receives the loss in both men's first All-Star appearances. Sospiri was awarded the All-Star MVP after the game, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI before being pinch hit for by John Scherfenberg in the top of the eighth. Guest Evolution Report post Posted June 28, 2005 SFBL August 2022 Best Team in August: The Chicago Transit Authority. Although their record for August was identical to Columbus', their rise to the top of the East-West Central is so dramatic that it has earned them this honor for the month. They started the month with a seven-game winning streak, and were hot for the remainder of the month. At the start of the month they were six games behind Baltimore in the Central, now at the end of their 21-9 month, they find themselves three games ahead of the Crime Spree with 31 games remaining. Worst Team in August: The Charlotte Harlots. Although Charlotte was already on thin ice in the competitive South, their 9-19 record in the month of August was ridiculous and they were fortunate that they didn't end up any lower than four games behind the Hanoi Janes in the South. They lost 11 of their last 15 games in the month, and now have to turn things around if they want to compete with Atlanta--it won't take much, but if they keep sliding there will be no room for recovery. TSM PLAYERS IN THE NEWS: Monday, August 6th, 2022: Detroit's Blackwell wins Player of the Week award The North-South Player of the Week award goes to Andrew Blackwell, Detroit's starting shortstop. He hit .462 with 10 RBI and slugged .923 in 26 at bats. Monday, August 13th, 2022: Player of the Week honor goes to Marsch It's the 2nd time that the North-South Player of the Week award goes to Quahog's catcher Timothy Marsch. Timothy pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 11 RBI while slugging 1.111. Wednesday, August 22nd, 2022: Patrick Hannon collects 2000th hit against Phoenix LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas' Patrick Hannon showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Phoenix on Wednesday. He hit a three run homerun in the first off Timothy Foster for number 2,000. His best year so far was 2014 where he hit .289 with 39 homeruns and 123 RBI. Monday, August 27th, 2022: Henderson wins Player of the Week award The North-South Player of the Week award goes to Robert Henderson, Memphis' starting first baseman. He hit .552 with 12 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 29 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 19 game hitting streak right now. His season features a batting average of .359 (181 hits in 504 AB), 37 doubles, 4 triples and 32 taters. Henderson collected 110 RBI and 99 runs as well. He's 1st in the North-South in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! Saturday, September 1st, 2022: Memphis' Henderson earns Batter of the Month award Memphis' first baseman Robert Henderson had plenty of reason to celeberate, as the league named him the North-South Batter of the Month. Robert was on fire, hitting .454 with 9 homeruns and 34 RBI. His season features a batting average of .363 (189 hits in 521 AB), 39 doubles, 4 triples and 34 bombs. Henderson has collected 116 RBI and 105 runs as well. He's 1st in the North-South in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Saturday, September 1st, 2022: McClain wins Pitcher of the Month The best month of August in the North-South certainly belonged to Columbus' left-hander Nigel McClain, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. His record of 6-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 45 innings of work he allowed just 32 hits while striking out 43, compiling an ERA of just 1.40. Nigel also fired a shutout this month. Nigel has a record of 20-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.71. In 192.1 innings he was able to strike out 189 batters. Nigel has pitched 2 shutouts and 2 complete games. He's 2nd in the East-West in ERA and 1st in wins! SFBL Standings Transactions: NONE! Angel_Grace_Blue 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2005 What kind of line drive is low enough to hit Tiny Gonzales? I know, it was on the ear, but still... Also, damn, Nigel's having a great year. And go NO, but also go Atlanta even though Tiny doesn't play for them. Also, Tiny kind of sucks, too. Just not as much as Giant. Looks like Villano IV might be next in line. Guest Evolution Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Hey guys, I know that it's been awhile since my last update, and I have to admit that I've made yet another mistake this season: There was a three-way tie at the end of the season, but I didn't set it up properly and things got jumbled up, resulting in Vancouver getting in without a proper 3-way tie performed. This was a big blow to me, as things like this tend to get me not want to put up the recap of the months. Combined with the fact that I've been super busy doing other things that I want to do more, I'm not sure how much longer I can do the SFBL. I'm going to see through this to the end of the year, but after the 2022 season, I don't know what I'm going to do next. Anyway, I don't really have time to update something right now, but I'll let you know that Quahog and Vancouver's postseason stats will be off since I scheduled a game for them after I realized I had screwed up on the 3-way tie. But yeah, there's a good chance the SFBL might reach a certain doom at the end of the season. I'd actually like to start over on OOTP 6.5, but that'd be a lot of history lost. The only upsides would be that I would have a more comprehensive history of the league, it'd be a fresh start, and there'd be plenty of rookies coming in since I'd be starting over with the Carlos DeSantis' and so forth. Vasarian_Brandy 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Well... I'd be all for starting over... But how would we arrange it with all the people in right now? How much talent would we trickle into the league each season? I'd love to help out, but... 1) I can't write nearly as well as you can... The reviews and such would not be nearly as good, and 2) I don't have OOTP 6.5, nor the caysh to pick it up. I want the SFBL to continue. This is very fun. But, not sure what I can do to help. So... I'll just hope for the best.
