Guest Choken One Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 well, TCM out drew Kill Bill AND the Rundown...amazing.
Mecha Mummy Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 I have officially lost my faith in mankind.
Guest Choken One Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Shame a good movie from what I hear, Mystic River did weak...
Downhome Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Holy.Shit. I didn't think TCM would do even CLOSE to that. I mean, I thought maybe 20Mil TOPS, but not almost 30, that's just an insanely good pull for that film on opening weekend, especially with the other films that are out right now.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Fuck I was hoping Mystic River did well. Thought it would too, theatre I was in was packed.

I had no intention of seeing the movie, but a ton of my friends back home all IMed me and told me about their experiences with TCM... so I guess it was more heavily desired than I thought. Jason
Youth N Asia Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Damn, I thought it would be #1 over how much advertising went into it...but $29 million? I didn't see that coming. It wasn't great, but it wasn't awful.
Tawren Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 I hope Kill Bill rebounds or has great staying power, because 12 mil in its second week is terrible for such a great movie.
Youth N Asia Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Well this time of year nothing seems to do well. The in between movies for Summer and Christmas are always like this
Guest Choken One Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Dont Horror/scary movies do well pre halloween?
Lightning Flik Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Dont Horror/scary movies do well pre halloween? Actually, yes they do. But still, that's just silly. I mean, come on. Three BETTER movies got scuffed for this (or so I've heard)? Yikes.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 If they(stupid teenagers) wanted to see TCM, why didn't the original TCM make 29 million in rental and sales this week? That movie is way better than the remake. And I don't even have to see it. The original is that good. I don't think half of the people who saw the remake have heard about the original. Also noting Psycho, which has a story similar to this. Also, the houses in the original TCM and original Psycho look identical from the outside and inside.

Probably because both Leatherface and Norman Bates were based on Ed Gein. Damn, that's alot of money for TCM....never expected that, maybe having the teaser/trailer not show very much worked for them.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 Showing the trailer before Freddy Vs Jason was a smart move.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Heavily hyped horror movie + a widely known horror icon + being released two weeks before Halloween = This isn't brain surgery folks. I mean hell Ghost Ship did like 14 mill last year.
Ravenbomb Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 fuck TCM, that movie made me want to rinse my eyes out with lye KB on the other hand is at least the second best movie out all year, I'm not sure if I liked Identity better or not
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Damn, I thought it would be #1 over how much advertising went into it...but $29 million? I didn't see that coming. It wasn't great, but it wasn't awful. "All the advertising?" I didn't even know the movie was coming out until yesterday.
Lil' Bitch Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 At least The Rundown lasted in the top 10 for a month. Damn shame it didn't have much staying power though.

I've seen a ton of previews for it the last few weeks
Red Baron Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 TCM did a good job. Its not a complete remake, its not a sequal. The movie was done well, and 30 million was easily achieved. It'll do good next week, but then drop heavily. Mystic River pulled in 10 million this weekend alone, which is pretty damn good.

Guest El Satanico Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Maybe you don't pay attention during commercial breaks or you record everything you watch and use fast forward.
Guest Urine Sane Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 That movie is way better than the remake. And I don't even have to see it. The original is that good. So you know it's way worse then the original, yet you haven't seen it? That's ignorant. Anyway, I'm not shocked at all that TCM was #1 and that it made so much. I think it'll easily be in the top 5 next week, just due to word of mouth. I may get a lot of flack from the TCM marks, but the remake* is a good film, brings horror back to it's roots, where your're not cheering for the badguy. *It's not really a remake, more of a different telling of the story, but with the same name.
Guest El Satanico Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 I've always cheered the bad guys. Fuck a bunch of kids, I'm cheering for leatherface.
Guest Urine Sane Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 well at least the fucker isnt super human like most killers.

Corey_Lazarus Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 I think TCM's success might also be based slightly off of the fact that this year was pretty good for horror. 28 Days Later, Freddy vs. Jason, and now the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. What? Jeepers Creepers 2? Never heard of it...
Guest Dmann2000 Posted October 21, 2003 Report Posted October 21, 2003 Kill Bill will do fine- probably top out around 70 million- the 2nd volume will pull in around 50 million- add maybe another 20-30 from overseas and that's 150 million for a pair of flicks that cost less than 60 million. And we haven't got to video/cable rights.
