Steve Austins Book....

Recommended Posts

I picked this one up earlier this week at Wal-Mart for an expensive, but cheaper then most price of 17.86 It's brief at only 312 pages, and I'm abouthalf way through. From a smarks perspective, the book so far is somewhat of a letdown. It doesn't provide much insight, and doesn't tell us much we didn't already know. His stint in WCW is covered in about 30 pages, which basically sums up to "It was run by idiots and there was too much political BS', yeah, thanks for the insight Steve. Austin spares no bones about his feeling on Owen Hart and Chris Adams, and has a feww less then flattering things to say about both. Overall, the book is a fun read, but if you're looking for a difinitive look into backstage politics, and not just a brief summation of the mans many career highlights, then this book will dissapoint.

were you in a spending mood today Spman?

I've been working non-stop for the past couple of months, the last thing that I have troubles with right now is Money.

Both Austin and Jim Ross make Chris Adams out to be a lying, double crossing, asshole and neither were surpsied to find out that his attitude eventually got him killed. He lays off Owen a bit, but he does allude to the fact that he didn't really forgive Owen for being sloppy in that match and hurting Steves neck, and he does say that he went out of his way to make sure he never had to work with him again after the incident. He says that they weren't especially good friends before the match, but rarely if ever had much to say to one another after it. When Owen died, they still hadn't really spoken much and worked their issues out between each other, so Austin really doesn't say anything at all about Owens Death other then that he was sorry it had to end for him that way.

I cant say I blame Austin, especially concerning Owen, since Bret said on OTR that Owen never even called Austin or checked up on him during the neck injury.

I can understand Austin being pissed off about the broken neck. He has the right to be mad but maybe he should try to get over it. How far has he come since then? How many titles has he held? How many events has he headlined? How much MONEY has he made? He's one of, if not the biggest wrestling star of all time.

Go sit on your money, drink your beer and enjoy retirement. Thanks for the memories, Steve.

Yeah--hell, Bret has long forgiven Goldberg for the kick. Owendriver '97 was even before that, and it didn't end Austin's career (though it could have).

Anything about beating Debra?

Anything about his steroid use and any tips on how to beat women while being intoxicated?

Keep bringing the content, guys.

Yeah--hell, Bret has long forgiven Goldberg for the kick.

Goldberg has admitted in interviews that he has apologized to Bret. Not only that, but Bret has admitted "the straw that broke the camel's back" wasn't too far away anyway, based on his umpteen concussions in his WWF run.

Owen, in a rare display of his sloppy ringwork, broke Austin's neck. It was an isolated incident that wasn't based on an accumulation of past injuries, either.

Not to mention, judging by past reports, Owen showed no real concern for Austin's well-being.

Austin has to deal with extreme pain EVERYDAY because of the original injury. Every official in the WWE has admitted that Austin's neck pain is 2-3X worse than any of the other past surgeries in the company (save Nash currently).

I'm sure the bitterness will not go away anytime soon.

We don't really know for sure what happen. I remember in "Wrestling with Shadows" them showing Austin in the back after the neck injury, walking with agents and ice on his neck and Owen following him down the hall and into the med-room.

For all we know Austin might have told Owen to fuck off and get away from him and that's what Owen did. Owen probably felt bad enough and didn't want to get into a conflict with Austin.

Quoted from an earlier post...

"I cant say I blame Austin, especially concerning Owen, since Bret said on OTR that Owen never even called Austin or checked up on him during the neck injury."

and...

Bret Discusses Steve Austin

He has nothing but the highest regards for Austin. He worked for everything he got. He would have loved wrestling him again. He never heard of him after Owen passed away. Bret talked a little about Owen and Austin saying that they had their problems when they wrestled each other. Owen would turn off wrestling and go home, and then he would turn it back on later and come back. He told Steve that Owen should have been a little more considerate and call Steve while he was injured.

Does that make Owen a bad person? Hell no.

Does that equate for Austin's bitterness, added to the pain he goes through every day because of the injury? Yes.

Guest The Winter Of My Discontent

Austin's career was hampered greatly by the neck injury, I would be quite angry. In addition, I'd lose for more respect for Austin if he painted a glowing impression of person he truly hated simply because he died.

I wonder how many times Austin called Masahiro Chono after he broke his neck. ;)

Damn...will there be no wrestling book that compares to Mick Foley's in terms of greatness? I guess that's just Mick though...everything he does is gold.

Do Bobby Heenan or Gary Michael Cappetta's books count?

When was that? I know he finally admitted he was responsible for what happened and he said "It's not ballet", but I don't remember him apologizing.

Here's Bret on Goldberg.

“Would love to kick him in the head the same way he kicked me”

"Goldberg definitely ended my career." - shoot tape

"Unfortunately his skill was nil and six months later he ended my career with a mule kick to the side of my skull that nearly ripped my head off and sent my brain rocking like jello. " - last month's calgary sun

Remember Goldberg gave him three concussions in one night, not just one.

His drinking problems, and his relationship with Debra may come later int he mook, I haven't gotten that far yet. He briefly touches on Steamboat simply saying that he was a great guy to work with. He has nothing but words of praise to say about Pillman, but he admits to having no clue at all about all the drugs and shit he was doing in secret. He said he wishes he could have done more to maybe help prevent his death, even it it wasn't directly cause by drug use.

Yeah, Bret's still mad at Vince for taking back HIS worked title, because Bret was too fucking juvinile to just job in Canada. There's a paragon of maturity.

Austin did more for the business in 5 years then Bret and Owen ever did COMBINED.

Dynamite Kid and Mike Quackenbush's books are pretty good. The recently released 550+ page

"Chokehold" by Jim Wilson and Weldon Johnson is supposedly the most in-depth wrestling book

ever. It is about Wilson and the history of the NWA.
