They also played it at 1AM, and technically cable is not under the jurisdiction of the FCC, just broadcast networks like CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX.  The reason we don't see really hardcore stuff on basic cable is fear of advertisors pulling out.

But yes, apparently overnight is still fair game for cable networks, as I've seen quite a few commercials for things like getting porn tapes in the mail around the 2-3AM mark (back when I used to work overnights)

 

Good, it's about time. Television and most other forms of entertainment have always been afraid to show or say what happens in the real world.

That old lady cracks me up. There's just something disturbing yet oddly hilarious about watching someone old enough to be my grandmother talk about dildos and sexual positions. I'm guessing they can air that show, though, because it's "educational." That, and some cable companies don't carry the Oxygen network on basic cable, either.

Canadian standards are fucked up, to say the least. Yes, we'll show nudity and swearing, and also most forms of violence, but apparently violence against women rates worse than showing cunnilingis or some guy saying 'fuck off and die' while blowing someone apart with a shotgun.

The word as been used a good bit on TV before. I'm pretty sure that MTV's "Scared Straight" special was completely uncensored with "fuck" and plenty else allowed to go through. Of course, if a normal TV drama just started doing it on a random basis without any significance, that would probably still cause a problem.

In Times there was an article a couple weeks back about if television had gone too far. Then in a poll I found a really, really bizarre statistic-

 

Majority of America agreed that breast-baring during any time isn't called for.

However full frontal nudity was supported by majority.
