Guest MikeSC Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 ^^exactly. thats what I meant. Right. WWE is basically patterning after Bill Watts' philosophy on matches: Banning top rope moves. Man, I feel like such a dork here --- but, in his shoot, Cornette explains the LOGIC behind THAT as well: EVERYBODY was coming off the top rope, including guys who sucked at it. Off-the-top-rope stuff was becoming less and less impressive. Guys were killing themselves doing the high-risk stuff and getting less and less of a reaction. So, Watts wanted to eliminate it entirely for a while --- then have guys who COULD do it well start doing it gradually over time. Eventually, they'd have high-flying stuff, but they'd prevent guys who shouldn't be doing the off-the-top-rope stuff. Not sure I agree, but that was the reasoning. -=Mike
CanadianChick Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 If London and Spanky just have to slow down their style to prevent injury, I'm fine with it. As someone else said, it makes their cool moves seem even more amazing. BUT, and this is a big BUT, if they completely change their style, this isn't good, obviously. From what I gather though, they just don't want them to kill themselves 4 nights a week. They are just protecting thier investments. The only logic I can see behind not letting Hurricane do the chokeslam is if they don't want him to be as much as a comedy character anymore. I have the feeling that isn't the case though.
razazteca Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Hurricane can do the Chokeslam better than any Hoss is what the problem is. But Scott Hall had the best comedy Chokeslam I have ever seen. I have fond memories of him mocking the Giant in WCW.
Guest Megatron Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 "6. Rob Van Dam" How much more. He is IC champ. Sure he is over, but I can call out his matches outloud. RVD can't cut a promo either. He throws faker kicks than Ultimo. I guess that's why everybody was complaining about his kicks being too stiff, huh? I don't see how a stiff kick can look fake....
The Metal Maniac Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I think the joke with Hurricane's chokeslam is long-dead. When he tried to chokeslam Big Show, that was funny. When he then tried to chokeslam some cruiserweight, and it worked, that was funnier. Now it's just one of his moves, which doesn't really seem right, as the chokeslam is one of those moves that's pretty much always been a "big man" move in the fed. It'd be like if he starting gorilla-pressing people. It just wouldn't look right.
Lil' Bitch Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I have fond memories of him mocking the Giant in WCW. Good times.
Guest Megatron Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 It'd be like if he starting gorilla-pressing people. It just wouldn't look right. Why not? If he's got the strength to do it, more power to him. Plus, that would really make him look like a superhero.

Right cause I remember when RVD gorilla pressed Xitan in the ladder match on RAW I thought it looked really cool.
