Styles 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Pain Killers are a god damn near neccesity to survive the pain, the pressure and the agony. That's what I was about to say. I bet you more than 3/4s of the wrestlers that use pain killers dislike them, but they NEED them, and by now they can't stop. Which is why if they are in pain, they should be allowed to heal their bodies so they don't have to become addicted just to get by.

{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 I think you missed my point. When I suggested they would be paid while they were out, others argued that Vince couldn't afford to pay them the same salaries while they were out, but my argument was that he could as evidenced by the huge sums of money he assigns to his family that seem to come out of thin air. No, I was just commented on a slightly related issue. What it comes down to, really, is that Vince doesn't have to do shit. He's the only gave in town(for now), and while we all wish he would reward his employees more for their work, he doesn't have to. If he can go to bed at night with a guilt-free conscience, what can we do? Like what has been said before, If you don't like the situation you will be in, don't go into it. Aside from Vince being the only game in town, business is down. Even if he wanted to, I'm sure some of the other higher ups in WWE wouldn't be too keen on starting more perks for performers while they are in a recession. Downhome 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Dear lord, I'm so sorry to hear this. Obviously, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, and as with all of the others, he'll always be in my heart. I don't know about you guys, but even though I'm not IN the industry, when I hear of one of the boys (or girls) passing away, I take it to heart. To me, they are a member of even MY family. It's so much more different to me than when a musician or a movie star or something passes. It truly gets to me to hear something like this, when one of OUR family passes. With that said however... ...this is IT, period. I don't care what, I don't care who does it, I DO care about when, and that time is RIGHT F'N NOW. Something needs to be done about this, and something needs to be done about this right here and now. Don't wait untill next year, or the year after, or five years from now. I DEMAND some sort of investigation into the business to seek out answers. This is not natural, and this is not the way it should be. If this was any other sport it would be national HEADLINES day after day, and the fans as well as those in the sport would demand something to be done about it. Well, here I am, as stupid as it may sound to some of you. As a fan, I DEMAND an investigation into this problem that not only gets worse year after year, but apparently, DAY AFTER DAY. I demand programs for those who are totally hooked on whatever it may be, have it be hard drugs, prescription drungs, or even alchohol. I want said programs to be promoted by ALL of the promoters out there, from Joe Blow down in the heart of Tx. to Vince McMahon himself. I don't know what all could be done about it, but it needs to happen now. We can't wait, and the industry can not wait any longer. Most importantly, the boys can not wait. The time is now, it's time for the wakeup call that was supposed to come over and over throughout this year. It needs to happen now...before it's too late. The unfortuente thing, is that it IS too late for so many already. Rest in peace Michael Lockwood, you will forever be missed.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted November 7, 2003 I played football for a lot of years. All through school. I never needed pain pills or anything else. I don't take tylenol for headaches, or smoke weed to relax. It's called self control. Some people have it, a lot of people don't. I can't believe people are actually trying to say that taking drugs is a necessity in sports. Fucking cakes.

Tawren 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 I've never played in any big leagues or anything, but as someone who knew several people who died because they OD'ed and other drug related stuff, I have no sympathy for people who get addicted and don't do anything about it. Taking the easy way out. Thanks for the insightful comments, Lord Master. What would we ever do without you? Play a fucking sport. See what happens. For a guy who played football and basketball for a long chunk of his life (both recreationally and in high school), I know with all the pain I endured, I have NOTHING against professional athletes. Good for you. I believe Coffey just said it best: I played football for a lot of years. All through school. I never needed pain pills or anything else. I don't take tylenol for headaches, or smoke weed to relax. It's called self control. Some people have it, a lot of people don't. The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Which is why if they are in pain, they should be allowed to heal their bodies so they don't have to become addicted just to get by. Too bad that's not the way it is. I really, really wish it was, for all wrestlers' sakes, but most importantly the indy wrestlers.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Yes, I've had many injuries. I had a fractured ankle twice. I refused the vicidin (sp?) I've broke both my arms, my ankle twice and both of my wrists. Three fingers and two toes.

Steviekick 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 I agree with what you're talking about Downhome. Every time something like this happens, it really hurts the industry all over. I'm sure network executives are aware of all these problems with wrestlers, and that definitely hurts the expansion, whether it be WWE getting onto mainstream network television or even NWA-TNA just trying to break into television. When I get into an argument with someone about pro wrestling, I can pretty much defend any of their arguments. Except for why so many wrestlers die young. The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Exactly. You never heard of Mick Foley having any problems, and he certainly took his fair share of bumps and injuries. I'm pretty sure Mick took painkillers on a few occasions, but that's about it. I'd never take painkillers in the wrestling business, it just does more damage. Of course, I'd never want to be in the damned thing in the first place.

However, his body was made for the severe amount of pain he took, while someone like Angle as conditioned as he is wasn't naturally designed to take unnatural bumps
Fökai 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2003 Yes, I've had many injuries. I had a fractured ankle twice. I refused the vicidin (sp?) I've broke both my arms, my ankle twice and both of my wrists. Three fingers and two toes. That's how YOU reacted to those injuries. Although I've have had a portion of those injuries, I reacted to them the same way you did. But compound those injuries over a 15-year career. Add neck injuries...back injuries...the lack of time to relax, because you're working for financial gain. ... NOW you're a professional wrestler.
