Timeline comes out on the 26th, i've seen tons of previews for it and I must say, it looks pretty good. I guess you have to look past the fact that Paul Walker is in it. The rest of the cast, the plot, and the special effects all look good. Also, Richard Donner directed it so that's a plus.

Some of you will probably say this looks like "The Core".

 

Well, what do you think ?

I didn't even know this was a Crichton work before a couple days ago. I am surprised at the trailer though, in that usually Crichton books/movies are very serious and have serious looking trailers, but this one, like LPYC said, just comes off as cheesy, and makes it look like yet-another-hokey-action-flick

Actually in the book that happens when one of the scientists comes back "affected" be repeated trips into the past and wanders off the lab they had constructed out in the middle of nowhere.

 

I don't know I'm willing to give it a try when it hits the rentals, but it has earned my wrath by violating my 1st Commandmant of Moviemaking - Thou shalt not make Paul Walker the "star" of your movie.

I thought it was a comedy when I first saw the preview. It looks boring, lame and way too serious for something this corny. I'd rather see Black Knight and Bill & Ted, personally.

If they kept the movie true to the book, it should be really good. I remember when reading the book (which I loved as an aside) thinking how easy it would be to turn into a film.

 

I'm looking forward to seeing this one.

All of the Crichton novel-based movies that I've seen haven't been very good, except for Jurassic Park, and that wasn't great. This'll be a rental for me...

Billy Connolly, the Scottish actor and comedian who co-stars in the upcoming SF movie Timeline, told SCI FI Wire that he plays a time-traveling archaeologist in the movie, but doesn't really believe in time travel himself.

The thing is, he's right. A movie that is based on a book will only stick to what's written if it's convenient or makes for a better movie or if the filmmaker insists that something must be in the movie. If you're an actor and you go in with the idea that the movie will be exactly like the book, you'll be sorely disappointed.

Definately I agree with what you said but... the whole article talks about time travel, and time travel is not in the book. It will piss me off if they turn it into a time travel movie for the sake of convience.

No time travel in the book? How the hell do they get off adding a totally new concept in the book->film process?

 

Somebody who's read the book please tell me what it's about then. Use spoiler tages if necessary. I personally have no intention of reading or watching.
