Bored 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 (edited) Being reported by espn.com. ESPN.com news services In the latest shocking development from a championship defense gone awry, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have deactivated former All-Pro wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson for the rest of the season, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports. According to Pasquarelli, Tampa Bay likely will look to trade Johnson after the season, as it believes there are several teams that are interested in acquiring his services. The NFL's trade deadline for this season passed in October. Although the team has not yet released an official reason for the move, Johnson had openly complained in recent weeks about not getting enough passes thrown his way and his on-again, off-again relationship with Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is well documented. An eight-year veteran and the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 NFL draft, Johnson has 45 catches for 600 yards and three touchdowns this season -- his fourth in Tampa Bay after starting his career with the New York Jets. For his career, Johnson has 603 catches for 7,936 yards and 48 touchdowns. Edited November 18, 2003 by Bored

kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Racists. Could you imagine having him and Owens on the same side of the field at once. Not sure what would be worse -- hearing the opposing crowd or those two...
Guest Goodear Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Wow. Could the Buccaneers be any more done for the season?

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 He'll be paid for the rest of the year, but won't be associated with the team. This is a head-scratcher for me. I would imagine this would hurt his trade value in the offseason, seeing how it doesn't look good for him personality wise. Isn't he under contract for another 2 or 3 years? KingPK 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 They probably wanted to release him outright (like Cleveland did last week), but I guess they would take a cap hit from paying off his signing bonus, and they didn't want to part with that money. Gruden probably did this to tell Keyshawn who is boss around those parts.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 I doubt this hurts his trade value. Most people know that Gruden hates Keyshawn, so it isn't like it's a big shock and people can now screw him out of Keyshawn. I doubt they get that much for him in the offseason anyway. He is overrated, he isn't a playmaker, he is a constant headache, he is expensive and he isn't even half as good as his cousin (that had no purpose, I just want to pile on Keyshawn. Chad owns Keyshawn.) I would be shocked if they got anything more than a second rounder and a throw in 6th or 7th.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Gruden probably did this to tell Keyshawn who is boss around those parts. That and others around Tampa who may doubt that. I would be pretty surprised if a team gave up a 2nd for Keyshawn, but it depends how desparate a team is for WR's.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Dallas has a nice set of receivers. They don't need that cancer on their team. Keyshawn AND Terry Glenn? I don't care how much of a "master motivator" Parcells is, the football gods would not look favourably at this. And I suppose that Tampa is trying to shake the "McCardell scoring = L" jinx? Don't forget that Corey Dillon is Eyeballing Dallas as well... Johnson likely will either A). Sign with Oakland (Hometown) B). Sign with Dallas (to be with his FAVORITE COACH OF ALL TIME!) C). Actually lives up to his promise of retiring at 30 years of age if he has won the title.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Parcells wanted to get rid of Keyshawn in New York. So i'm not sure if Parcells feels the same way about Keyshawn.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 18, 2003 That hasn't stopped Keyshawn from Sucking Parcell's cock. "Hi Bill!" "Oh, Hi Keyshawn...Kinda Busy right now" "Did you hear I was a free agent?!?" "Really...That's interesting..." "So...Wanna go to the red lobster or something? My Treat" "Uh No thank's I have other...uh plans"

Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted November 18, 2003 Something that hasn't been stated is it isn't Keyshawn's fault that the Bucs have no running game, a shitty offensive line, and an average at best QB. Only thing they had going for them was their WR core.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 As for the Eagles, Andy Reid wouldn't touch Johnson.....er....Keyshawn with a 10 foot pole. Not his type of player.
JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I hope the Raiders persue the services of Keyshawn Johnson. Can you imagine if they get Brown and Rice to retire and have a deadly tandem of Jerry Porter and Keyshawn? However it would only work if Keyshawn would know his role on the team and work with Callahan and Gannon. By the way. Oakland isnt Keyshawn's hometown. Los Angeles is. His default hometown team would bt the Chargers.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 19, 2003 man, Keyshawn and Boston would be even worse than Keyshawn and T.O.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 The Ravens need him. They need a WR who can catch the ball and not drop it. So what if hes doesnt catch TDs. Deep in the red zone should be Jamal Lewis all the way. The Ravens also have a ton of cap room. If they dont sign T O, they should try and get Keyshawn... Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Keyshawn seems to be popping off that he's looking for apartments in NYC. Does that mean he wants to Play for the Jets again? Or rather the Giants? If he complained so much about the travel from LA to Tampa...He should just move to a west team
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Keyshawn could work with the Jets. Him and Santana Moss would make a solid duo, with Chrebet around for support. Conway isn't really working out there, right?

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 If I was the Jets GM, I wouldn't want to get Keyshawn anywhere near Chad Pennington Santana Moss. They are blossoming as a duo and I don't want a cancer around them.
Guest TheGregWitul Report post Posted November 19, 2003 "Something that hasn't been stated is it isn't Keyshawn's fault that the Bucs have no running game, a shitty offensive line, and an average at best QB. Only thing they had going for them was their WR core." The line is playing through injuries, and the running game is not consistent, however, Brad Johnson is underrated if anything. He knows how to avoid the sack and hold the ball, he is capable of making clutch throws, and he is able to absorb the impact of being knocked around all season. Average? I don't think so... I'm a huge Buccaneers fan, and I like Keyshawn on the field (I've been a fan since his days at USC), however, off of the field, the guy is an asshole. For one, he runs his mouth, however, his trash talk is usually based around himself, and hurts the team more so than it helps them. Love or hate Warren Sapp, but he is a master at getting in someones head. His numbers do not reflect how good the guy is playing. He talks trash, but it usually helps the team, and is not always focused on himself. Keyshawn on the other hand is a cancer. He may give it his all on the field (And he may not be an elite receiver anymore, but he is a clutch player and he always plays hard football. He may be a primadonna, but he is no pussy.) but he seems to be a distraction. As a Buccaneers fan, I'm sad to see it come down to this. As I mentioned above, I've always liked the guy on the football field, and was pumped when Tampa traded for him back in 2000, but this talk of him wanting to leave town and his general dislike for Gruden (Though it is mutual dislike.) makes him a cancer in the locker room. I don't think Tampa will let him go for nothing, however, the team that gets him in a trade will also receive his ridiculous contract, so it balances out in a sense. Where do I see Keyshawn going next season? Not the Giants or the Jets. Keyshawn may run his mouth about going to NY, but it's not going to happen. If you have yet to notice, Keyshawn views himself as the best, which is great, but if you watched the Monday night meltdown against the Colts, he spent the better part of the evening ripping on Marvin Harrison, who is pound for pound, the best wideout in the league. It may of been harmless trash talk during the first half, but after they came back (With Harrison and Peyton leading the way) Keyshawn looked liked an idiot, as he failed to do anything in the closing minutes of the game to help Tampa close out the possible victory. Maybe Dallas will go for him, but I doubt that as well. I think it would be something else if he joined his cousin on the Bengals, but with Chad's extension, it seems unlikely that the team would invest that much money in the wideouts. I could see something being worked out with Keyshawn going to San Fran and TO coming to Tampa (Not a straight up trade, but a possible deal.) but I wonder if Gruden would want another talented headcase (Although I think that TO may work out in Tampa, and not pose the problems that Keyshawn has). That's also the Buccaneer fan in me, hoping that Tampa has a chance to land Owens. It could happen, it could not, we will have to wait and see. Baltimore is another possible place for Keyshawn to go. With Ray Lewis on the squad, I'd love to see them during the first day of training camp. Whatever happens, I think it will be an interesting off season for the Bucs, whatever they squeeze in the playoffs or end the season on a low note (Missing the playoffs/anymore self implosions)... j. Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Why would Cincy get KS when we already got a prima donna in Dillon? We Have Warrick and Johnson...we don't need motormouth. Sadly...I could Buy KeyShawn headed to Baltimore... Besides, Keyshawn couldn't stand being in Cousin Chad's Spotlight anyways.
