haVoc 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Has anyone been watching this show since John Ritter's death? They had a nice tribute show a few weeks back, but the show hasn't been the same since. John Ritter really was the star of this show. I'm watching it now which is why I asking.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I'll be watching later tonight when it is on here in Canada. This is the 2nd post-character-death show, right? I watched the last one, it was OK, but damn Bridgette is whiny. Her poor acting really pissed me off.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 19, 2003 It's the Third one actually
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I watched the two before, but completly forgot tonight. I hate to sound bad, but it's just not a very good show without Ritter.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Garner is good with the limited lines...and they are the SAME lines.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I've been watching the show and am watching it right now actually. I agree, it isn't the same, but I can't knowingly skip it. I'm interested to see how they move on. What's sad is that I never watched it prior to this season. The first three eps with Ritter let me know that this was a show worth watching. haVoc 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Garner is the grandfather, right? He really brings the show down for me. I just don't think he's funny. Really, none of them are funny without Ritter's presense.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I didn't get into the show till the season was over and they were showing reruns. It was way better then I was expecting.
WrestlingDeacon 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I never really watched it either, but Garner on the show has made me check it out. I didn't watch it tonight as I was watching another movie. From what I've seen, Garner's role isn't to be funny. He's the glue that holds the family together much like how Ritter was. He's there to help the show and the family transition and help Katey Seagal become the real glue that holds it all together.
NYU 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Well, obviously, the show has definitely lost something. With John Ritter, it could actually get pretty damn funny at some points. But now, instead of going "Ha ! That was funny !", others, including myself, are just going "Well....that wasn't unfunny." and that doesn't go well for any comedy. I doubt 8 Simple Rules will be making it much longer than the end of next season. It's just not that good anymore.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Ratings are still high...
Steviekick 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Eventually things on the show are going to click. The writers were able to make it very good while Ritter was alive. It seems that them and the rest of the cast are kind of in a rut, and deservably so. I bet by the end of the season the show will be working better. They just have to figure out what direction they want to go in.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Tonight's episode was...strange. The stuff with Kate and Rory was TERRIBLE, as neither one knew what to do, they weren't clicking, and the script was bad. I did not like it. If they are going to go serious, they need to go serious, not straddle the line-because it doesn't work.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2003 The oldest daughter is cute and all...but with the storylines they're running she's coming off like a piece of shit. She's heel most of the episode and breaks down and does her "I love you daddy" at the end to get back on the good side. I find it annoying
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 19, 2003 I watched the tribute show and the episode after that. It's hard watching a show where Peggy Bundy isn't dysfunctional.
