Smackdown Tapings

Must...resist...urge...to read...spoiler.

Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty tag champs? I hope you heard wrong. Bleh they should move WGTT to Raw and dump the SD tag titles.

I'm thinking Meltzer has no clue that a Smackdown video game exsists and actually thought they were going to be actual matches.

Lesnar v. Benoit actually happened.  It was a solid 15-20 mins. and was in my opinion Lesnars best match ever.  Defiantly MOTYC.

Holy shit! It's a dream match come true. I can't believe they gave that away on SD.

BTW, If you're exaggerating, I will have to kill you. :)

Spoilers off the DVDVR message board...I accidently read the the result to the Lesnar/Benoit match so I'll just put it with a spoiler tag:

Dark

Kidman beats some indy jobber from Philly in a boring match.

The Cat beats Chuck Palumbo - AWFUL

Velocity -

Kanyon/Collyer v. Spanky/Dragon was pretty dang good but I'm sure they'll strip it to hell.

Rhyno jobs to Bradshaw - why?

Funaki jobs to Akio in a decent little match.

Orlando Jordan beats an indy jobber

and almost breaks his neck with a horrible neckbreaker

Smackdown -

Shannon Moore gets squashed by Big Show

Rikishi and Scotty beat the Bashams (non title)

nothing special except that Rikishi does the sunset flip sit down counter and landed right on one of the Basham's face. OUCH. Also, the Bashams have swank new bondage gimp masks.

Jamie Noble beat Sakoda

nothing special. Noble threw Nidia into Sakoda and then got the roll up. after the match he threw Nidia out of the ring.

Chris Benoit beats John Cena

Cena hits the FU and they pull the Benoit's foot was on the rope Dusty Finish and then Benoit lays on the crossface after a Big Show run-in. Everything after the restart was very good.

Chavo beats Shelton Benjamin when Eddie cheats to win.

Good match - crowd hated the old school work on the injured leg psyche, but fuck them.

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Brock Lesnar beats Chris Benoit - AWESOME MATCH SET YOUR VCR's. Live it was a **** affair and the heat was insane. How it comes off on your tv might not do the match justice. Insane brawling throughout and all sorts of sweet stuff. Benoit hits the flying headbutt but Brock kicks out. Benoit gets Brock to tap after a ref bump but ref doesn't see. Brock hits the F5 and Benoit kicks out and the place is going fucking nuts. Finish comes when Brock nails Benoit in the leg with a chair and then puts on a sweet lucha submission hold on the leg he just hit. Ref calls the match when Benoit passes out. Despite the refbump, this was SWEET.

Thats WWE's fault as they promised Mysterio/Jericho. If it ends up being them playing a video game that might be the worst bait and switch of all time. That would seriously piss me off.

They only advertised it once, and it was limited to a little picture blurb at the bottom of the screen. Ross nor Lawler made the announcement of an actual wrestling "match" between them.

But, it was implied. Everyone took it to mean that, just look at the reaction of the board. WWE knew exactly what they were doing, tricking the fans into watching that stupid award show. If all they were doing was playing a video game then that should have been mentioned. To me this is the biggest cheap shot of them all. I cannot tell you how much this pisses me off. This stupid fucking company, I swear to god sometimes I want to burn titan towers to the ground.

Got some more detailed spoilers off meltzer's site.

Smackdown spoilers from San Jose

by Dave Meltzer

Quick report from tonight's Smackdown tapings in San Jose.

Show really wasn't much except for the two Chris Benoit matches. Except for the fact the main event was so tremendous, the Raw brand house show on Saturday night was a better show.

Dark matches

1. Cat b Chuck Palumbo with a messed up feliner.

2. Billy Kidman b ? (I think it was Jimmy Snuka Jr.) - PA was pretty bad, which always seems a problem at WWE shows. The job guy didn't look good and bad match

Velocity

3. Akio b Funaki when Tajiri interfered in a good match

4. Spanky & Paul London b Chad Collyer & Kanyon when London pinned Collyer with a double-team move that busted up Collyer's mouth. London did a dropkick on one guy and landed with a full splash on the other. Crowd was on all four guys bad but the work was good

5. Orlando Jordan b Greg ? (looked like Jack Bull) with a messed up neckbreaker. This is going to need major sound sweetening because it was filled with loud boring chants.

6. Bradshaw b Rhyno after a high kick, but Rhyno gored him after the match

Smackdown

Brock Lesnar did a promo. They are trying to position him as "the greatest WWE champion of all-time" as he said it a few times and it was also in his entrance video. Interview went too long. He said he'd never tap again but took about ten minutes to say it. His delivery has gotten better. They really pushed Benoit making him tap before the show started on video to make sure they chanted at Lesnar.

7. Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty b Basham Brothers in a non-title match when Rikishi pinned Doug after a Samoan drop. Shaniqua called both Bashams pathetic and walked out on them.

Paul Heyman was in a room with Dawn Marie wearing a killer outfit. Paul is no longer portrayed as incompetent, but instead as a sexual as Dawn wanted him to lay her bad and it was obvious. He could have cared less, and was only interested in seeing her mail a letter to Bob Holly (still suspended) and to get Shannon Moore

Heyman invited Moore to the ring while he was surrounded by Matt Morgan and Nathan Jones. They are trying to get Moore over as an little guy who never quits, and when he was face to belly button with Morgan and Jones, he did look small.

8. Big Show b Moore with a choke slam very quickly

9. Jamie Noble b Sakoda when he threw the "blind" Nidia into the ring and then threw her into Sakoda, and when Sakoda was stunned, Noble schoolboyed him. Looked to be a Noble. They had to retape the post-match a second time, this time with Noble browbeating her after the match and dropping her. Fans booed the hell out of the re-tape

10. Benoit b Cena to get the shot. Cena first won with an FU, but Benoit's foot was on the ropes. Brian Hebner came out and showed the tape to Nick Patrick, who overruled his decision and the bout continued. Benoit won with a crossface via tap out after Show punched Cena, which Benoit didn't see. Crowd was for Cena early, but most of the way they were quiet and just watching. Benoit totally carried Cena so I think people recognized it and were a little more for Benoit by the end.

11. Chavo Guerrero b Shelton Benjamin when Eddy interfered with a frog splash. Chavo told Eddy not to come to ringside. Eddy did anyway wearing one of those beer can hats you wear at a football game and reading Smackdown magazine. This was a good match.

12. Lesnar b Benoit to retain the title in an excellent match. This really should have been on PPV because this had to be among the best WWE TV bouts this year. Ref Hebner was bumped and Benoit got the crossface, and Lesnar tapped but no ref. Lesnar hit the F-5, but Benoit kicked out. Finish saw Lesnar use a chair to the knee and a half crab while wrapping Benoit's leg around his head and Benoit did the Austin-Hart passing out from the pain finish. Lesnar kept putting Benoit in submissions wanting him to tap. Crowd got into Benoit a lot and he got the post-match standing ovation.

I have no idea what happened to Jericho vs. Mysterio, as Mysterio didn't even appear on the show

I'm no fan of Meltzer, but I hope to god he's right about this.

I've been dying to see Benoit vs Lesnar for over a year.

So what happens at the Rumble now? Re-match or Cena?

I'd say they're heading towards a submission or an "I quit" match. Personaly, I hope they stick with a more normal match.

Can't wait for this Smackdown! They're actually pushing Benoit.

I'm excited for Smackdown! Unfortunately, the next day on this board will be terrible because everyone has high hopes for this match, just like the Iron Man, and will rip the match apart. "Brock didn't sell the arm." "This match is overrated." "Benoit couldn't carry Brock." "WWE screwed up by not putting the title on Benoit when the crowd was behind him."

So in advance, let me just say.... shut up and enjoy the match!

more, DETAILED SPOILERS :

WWE SmackDown!

San Jose, California

December 2, 2003

Results by Manuel "Emesjay" Sousa, rajahwwf.com reader

SmackDown!:

Show opens with no pyro. Lesnar comes out to cut a promo. The crowd nearly drowned

him out with "you tapped out!" chants practically during the entire thing. The

basics were that he will NEVER tap again, that Benoit and Cena are afraid of him and

that he is the best champion ever.

Rikishi & Scotty-2-Hotty def. Basham Bros. (w/Shaniqua)

- This was a NON TITLE match. A few minutes into it, Shaniqua trips up Scotty,

causing the ref to eject her from ringside. It wouldn't matter, as she returned a

few minutes later. Rikishi went for a stinkface but with the Shaniqua distraction,

the Bashams switched and gave him a low blow. A Worm and a Samoan drop later,

Rikishi got the pin. After the match, Shaniqua argues with the Bashams until she

finally just leaves them in the ring.

Backstage, Heyman apparently has Dawn Marie as his new personal assistant. He has

her write a letter to Bob Holly, explaining that his suspension would last for quite

some time. Afterwards, he tells her to tell Shannon Moore to meet him in the ring.

Heyman comes out to the ring, Nathan Jones and Matt Morgan in tow. He shows clips of

their matches with Moore and that everyone says that he takes a beating and comes

back for more. He then calls Shannon to the ring and tells him that he has faced

some big challenges, but nothing as big as his next challenge since they don't come

bigger than...THE BIG SHOW!

Big Show def. Shannon Moore

- Shannon in yet another SQUASH. Big Show did some brutal things to him before

finishing him off with a choke slam.

Tale of the Tape: John Cena and Chris Benoit. It listed "Degree in Thuganomics"

under Cena's accomplishments.

Jamie Noble was backstage telling Nidia (still "blind") that he lost two weeks in a

row because of her. He starts to tell her to stay in the back this time, but stops

himself. He has a better idea.

Jamie Noble def. Sakota (w/Tajiri)

- This is the first time I've seen Sakota in action. He did okay. Pretty standard

Noble match. Towards the end, Sakota has the upper hand and Noble is on the outside.

The ref is with Tajiri so he grabs her, throws her in the ring, pushes her into

Sakota (getting heat in the process) and gets the roll-up. Afterwards, Noble

consoles Nidia with an evil grin on his face. It took two takes to do that...

Josh Matthews interviews Cena backstage until Benoit comes and the two have a

face-to-face. Their match is next.

Chris Benoit def. John Cena

- The crowd was about 66/33 with Cena getting the majority. Cena starts with a funny

rap. I won't spoil it, but Neverland Ranch was mentioned. Good match. Very back and

forth. Benoit misses a Flying Headbutt and Cena comes back with an F-U. He gets the

pin but the ref doesn't see Benoit's foot on the rope. Cena wins...until another

referee comes out and the two refs talk and the match was re-started. Benoit pretty

much owns Cena this time around. Benoit botched the Crossface when he went for it

and Cena slipped out his grasp and slammed into the mat. Looked painful and Cena was

favoring his arm for the rest of the night. Benoit aimed for the arm for the rest of

the night. At this point, Big Show interfered. It didn't really matter, as Cena just

punched his off the apron. With the distraction, Benoit wins when Cena taps out of

the Crossface. Show had a big smile on his face after Cena lost.

Backstage, Chavo and Eddie are talking. Eddie is firing Chavo up for his match,

until Chavo stops him. He says that he's tired of it always being about "Eddie,

Eddie, Eddie!" and that he wants to go out there alone (lots of heat there). Eddie

protests, but Chavo gets the last word.

Chavo Guerrero (w/Eddie) def. Shelton Benjamin (w/Charlie Haas)

- Chavo does indeed come out alone (complete with his old music, not "Viva La

Raza!"). However, when the match is about start Eddie's music hits and he comes out

in a compact car (no hydraulics). Eddie proceeds to be hilarious. Like Cena, I won't

spoil it but needless to say I was cracking up. Because of that, I sadly wasn't

really paying much attention to the match. Chavo gets Shelton on the mat and Charlie

jumps on the apron. Both Chavo and the ref turn their attention to him and Eddie

uses the opportunity to lie, cheat and steal by hitting a very quick Frogsplash.

Chavo goes for the cover and gets the win. Afterwards, Chavo looks upset at Eddie

and leaves without him.

Backstage, the FBI is taking bets on who will win between Benoit and Lesnar. A-Train

comes up to Nunzio and bets $50...on Benoit.

They show a highlight reel of Brock. The clips they show include his matches with

Hulk Hogan, Rock and Kurt Angle.

We then see Josh Matthews interviewing Benoit. They show Lesnar tapping to Benoit at

Survivor Series. Benoit says for Brock to get ready for it to happen again.

Brock Lesnar def. Chris Benoit

- Awesome match. Lesnar dominated for the most part. They exchange whips into the

ring steps, which slightly cuts Lesnar on the nose. When they got back into the

ring, Benoit hits the Flying Headbutt and Lesnar kicks out. The match continues and

Lesnar hits an F-5 and Benoit kicks out (!). Eventually, the ref gets inadvertently

knocked out. At this point, Benoit finally gets Brock into the Crossface. He taps

out, but there's no ref to ring the bell. Frustrated, Benoit goes to wake up the ref

and Lesnar gets a low blow. While Benoit is down, he gets a chair hits him with it,

throws it outside and wakes up the ref. Then Lesnar puts Benoit into this awesome

submission. I don't know the technical name, but Lesnar put Benoit's leg over his

neck and puts his body in a Boston Crap like position. Cool stuff. After being in

the move for a couple minutes, the ref rings the bell. Benoit lost consciousness.

Brock Lesnar wins via KO.

After the show, Benoit walks off to a well deserved standing ovation.

Decent show overall, despite the fact that there was no Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio or

Ultimo Dragon, and Tajiri & Eddie didn't wrestle. No McMahon was a definite

blessing.

Top 3 Pops:

1) Eddie Guerrero

2) Chris Benoit

3) John Cena

Top 3 Heat:

1) Brock Lesnar

2) Paul Heyman

3) Chavo, initially

This is the only thing that worries me because this gives me the impression that WWE is going to push the hell out of Brock and Goldberg to set up a champ vs. champ match at Wrestlemania. Therefore its less likely that Benoit wins the belt and that there will be title defenses at WM.

If they do have Lesnar-Holly at the Rumble, I hope Brock destroys him and crushes him until he can't stand up.

Exactly...and MAYBE they can have the Lesnar/Benoit blowoff at Mania (fat chance) instead...

Have Lesnar beat and maim holly in a cage match...Benoit beats Cena in the rumble to win it...(he draws #6, Cena draws #24)...

Have a six man or something for NWO.

What to do with Cena though...Ah...Him and Angle will do (Although I'd perfer Shawn/Angle)

I'm still weary they might have Lesnar/Holly at Rumble instead...

I was thinking that myself but with the way Smackdown played out, they can run with Holly/Brock for the next couple of weeks and have Benoit off-screen with an injury angle.

I'd have Lesnar plough through Holly in their eventual one-on-one match with Benoit making the save when Brock goes to town on Hardcore after their match ends.

Screw that.

FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY! Brock and Benoit team up to maim holly.

OK. The smart thing is this...Likely the first Smackdown of 2004 will be "HUGE"...

So have the cage match there and give it that "huge spectactular" sell...

Brock shows he is a vicious animal...and only Benoit can tame him.

Shiiiiit. Cena vs. Benoit, Chavo vs. Eddy, and Brock vs. Benoit's like twenty minutes? I am THERE.

And assuming Kanyon/Collyer vs. Spanky and London goes over five minutes, Velocity should be fun too.

I think it's pretty funny that all the people in the "spike tv video game awards" thread are still believing their going to get real matches. Boy, are they going to be pissed!

I wasn't going to watch the show anyway so I could careless.

I know I would have said nothing if that match was, you know, good. I also would have said nothing if it wasn't hammered into our skulls for months that Angle/Lesnar was supposed to revolutionize wrestling/sports entertainment matches forever due to their backgrounds, sacrificing everyone around them so they can have matches that just couldn't break away from the rest of the pack. THAT is why I resented the matches.

There was no such hype surrounding Benoit/Lesnar.
