Looks like Indiana Jones 4 is a go.

Recommended Posts

Got this from USA Weekend Magazine Who's News section.

Q: Is it true that Harrison Ford will star in a fourth Indiana Jones move? Cartherine Sullivan, Chicago

A: It's true; filming is planned for next summer. Ford, 61, has signed on, Sean Connery is expected to reappear as Indy's father, and Steven Spielberg wll again direct. Everyone's aiming for a movie in theaters by Fourth Of July weekend, 2005.

I have no reservations about it. The reason it's taken this long to get it going is because everyone involved wanted to make sure the script and everything was right. From all reports

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

the character is aged and the scenario will reflect that
so it should be fine. I'm excited about it.

All things should end in threes. Trilogy is such a beautiful word. In some instances, it's better to end a story on a lesser third film than to screw the pooch on an even worse fourth film.

And with Ford being a near-senior citizen, won't that limit his ability to do things like run away from giant rolling boulders, which lends a lot to his character's appeal? ;)

I've said on other threads that The Last Crusade was the perfect way to end the Indiana Jones saga -- with all of them riding off into the sunset.

(The actor that played Marcus is dead, which is one of the big reasons I don't want another movie made -- he was one of my favorite characters.)

Heck, I'd take Mr. 'Berg making "updates" on these movies with new special effects and Ewoks over making Indiana Jones 4...

A trilogy is a great way to end of a movie, but the all mighty dollar is the only reason this movie is being made.

I have a horrible feeling about this.

I agree, this thing is going to be Ghostbusters 2-awful.

BUT, if by some miracle it's good (which I'm hoping) I'll come here and eat my words. But I think my stomach is safe from ever coming into contact with my words.

I think we're all missing the important point here:

Since the character is aged, that means the setting must be changed--like in the 1950s or 60s. Therefore, the question must be asked--how is Indy going to fight Nazis in such a setting? As evidence indicates, Indy fighting Nazis = good.

Well he'll probably be fighting Commies instead. As to whether that's good or not remains to be seen.

I am sure the movie will be good.

When was the last time Speilberg directed a movie that sucked in the past 20 years?

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Minority Report (2002)

Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001)

Unfinished Journey, The (1999)

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Amistad (1997)

Lost World: Jurassic Park, The (1997)

Schindler's List (1993)

Jurassic Park (1993)

Always (1989)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)

Empire of the Sun (1987)

Color Purple, The (1985)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983) (segment 2)

Poltergeist (1982) (uncredited)

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

I have seen all of those movies, except for Always and Schindler's List. The only one I didn't like was Lost World.

I have faith in him.

Hook.

But I still have faith in him.

Hook didn't suck.

Although I can't really say the same thing for AI.

I liked both of those movies quite a bit, but I can easily understand why someone else wouldn't.

Speilberg is one of my favorite directors, but even I have to admitt he's made some stinkers in recent years. AI was terrible, and Minority Report has already been forgotten.

And while Indy has been a personal favorite of mine (I've got the DVD) I have a hard time thinking this will end in any way but disaster. T3 came the closest to reinventing an old franchise, and even then it was stretching things,

Lost World was bad. A.I. was okay until the stupid ending.

I personally love Hook. I know alot of people hate it, but I thought it was a really good kids movie.

Speilberg has made a whole bunch of dogs (Amistad, The Color Purple, Hook, Lost World, Always, the Twilight Zone).

I'm still anxious to see Indy 4 though!!

AI is sincerely one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I too have faith in this one though, simply for the fact that Indiana Jones is too cool of a character to be in something that sucks.

No, not at all.

Amistad was particularly horrible.
