SWF "Lockdown" HOLT report

December 5, 2003

Topeka, Kansas at Landon Arena

Report by William Gaylor of Oklahoma City, OK Smartmarks.com reader

Dark Matches:

- “Live Wire” Sean Casey beat Charismatic Kev in 1:22 with the Aftershock.

- “Hollywood” Spike Jenkins beat Jimmy “The Demon” Liston in 4:37 with the Ratings Grabber.

- Stryke beat Manson in 4:45. Manson was in control of the match until Stryke reversed a Fisherman’s Suplex attempt into a swinging DDT. Stryke went on to win with the Low End Theory.

- Mike Van Siclen beat Landon Maddix in 6:05 with the Cardinal Sin Clutch.

- SJL World Champion Todd Royal beat Dominic Korgath in 16:56 to retain the SJL World Title. After the match, Korgath got on the mic and announced that he was retiring from active competition in the SJL. In a rare breaking of kayfabe, he thanked the SJL bookers for giving him the opportunity to show what he had to offer, and he gave a special thank you to the fans for making all the sacrifices he made to be a wrestler worth it, and said that even though we always booed him, he always enjoyed coming out and giving us the best show possible. We gave him maybe a 30-second standing ovation, and broke into a brief “Korgath” chant.

- This was a very good undercard, and got the crowd really amped up for “Lockdown!”

“Lockdown”:

- I don’t know about anyone else, but my ticket read “Storm.” I was totally confused until Funyon got in the ring before the show, and explained the whole mess with the trucks and stage equipment and stuff, and that this was going to be a “Special Edition” of Lockdown. He also announced that Duran had been suspended for two weeks without pay for his assault on Matthew Kivell back on Smarkdown, and Mark Stevens was deciding whether or not Duran was going to be subjected to any further disciplinary action.

- It took nearly a minute after the show went to commercial to get Dace and Charlie Matthews off the stage. Horrorcore refused to leave until after Matthews had gone backstage, as if he wanted to get the last word.

- After that, they had an intermission where they held a contest to give away two tickets to Clusterfuck. Crow was brought in to be the Emcee, and I think he was being totally biased, because he gave the tickets to a goth chick in the front row.

- Funyon got into the ring before the Thugg/Craven match and announced that Thugg would no longer answer to “HVille Thugg,” and that he is to be referred to now only as “Thugg,” or “HVT.” This, of course, led to a small segment of the crowd chanting “H-Ville” for almost a full minute before Craven even came out!

Biggest Pops

1) Mak Francis

2) Tom Flesher

3) Dace Night

4) Strangler

5) Dominic Korgath

Most Heat

1) Ejiro Fasaki

2) HVT

3) Erek Taylor

4) Judge Hearford

5) Charlie Matthews

Much love again to WC!

I think we should just make these Holt reports our comments thread for the show.

I'm boosted that I got the second biggest heat, although, I don't think that would have happened like that unless it was off camera. In my match, HVT was getting over as a face, and they really didn't have a chance to boo Thugg cause Francis kicked the crap out of him. Be that as it may, I still think it works, perhaps when HVT first comes out...but I'm glad that at least one person is seeing Thugg's transformation back into a heel.

What I'm more proud of is Francis's #1 pop of the night because I think I had a lot to do with it. Between my match and Mak's promo, I think we did an excellent job selling this angle that we kind of just threw together out of convenience. So, good work there Mak.

If at all possible, I'd like to hear some comments about my match, good or bad, mainly because this was the first match I've written since my very first run here, where I was actually excited while writing it.

Other Stuff:

The ending to the ME was very good, albeit, a bit confusing. Perhaps because I haven't kept up with things like I should, but I couldnt' figure out why Mak came down. Also, the Dace/Matthews thing was very, very nice. I thought, overall, it was a pretty good show, especially considering that we're in a time of year where our roster is thin and people need shows off.

Da "good work people...WC rocks!" H

Strangler vs. Erek, Hell in a Cell? Sweet~

Janus makes Judge actually *submit* to the Bearhug...muahahahaha (Y)

Dace and I co-wrote that match, by the way.

Very entertaining match by Thugg...err, HVT.

...and Mak vs. HVT, I Quit. That should be good.

Great main event, too. Props to Tom and Ejiro.

“Personally,” says Comet, “I find the idea of continual bleeding disturbing.”

“I know,” Riley agrees. “I don’t want to get near anything that bleeds for five days straight and doesn’t die.”

ROFLMFAO!

That was fucking golden. Completely golden.

Sad to see that the X-Mas PPV looks to be the end of both Taylor and Strangler, but in a 'Hell In A Cell' match they'll certainly finish off a fantastic feud with an out-of-this-world match, which i'm very much looking forward to reading.

I loved beating Nekura and Thoth in a tag match that put me on the map.

And unless you had another tag match against Spider & Thoth, you beat them while carrying my worthless ass, which makes it all the more impressive.

Mak & Thugg in an 'I Quit' match should also rule, hopefully it doesn't end with another HVT broken neck like his last I Quit match did.

Well since this is officially the comments thread, it seems, I'll go down the line in some short winded Franchisable comments. And WC this 'HOLT Report' was an awesome idea since I haven't proclaimed just how great you are in a while.

The opening promo was well written and told a good story. You finally want me to quit, well okay, I'll do it, but in the end I'll be better than you and go out with the fans chanting my name (win or lose)! That's a very good internal storyline for your HIAC match. On a seperate note, I'm also surprised at the positioning this promo got you on the pops list.

Tapping out to a Bearhug is mean. At least it's an ARMTRAP~ Bearhug. I'd comment more in depth, but yeah... I have studying to do

Wildchild promo was innovative, in that, he doesn't actually have to be at the arena to further a storyline, during the show. The live via phone aspect is fairly new to our group, and it might be a good idea for our fed as a group to do more promos via phone/satellite in the future.

Dace and Grappler come together in a neat little co-write, *ahem* although I though those were illegal, I won't tell if you won't tell. But seriously, it should be no biggy as it gives Dace at least one option for an opponent at the PPV.

I don't know what it is about Thugg's matches, but much like in Danny matches (who said he tried to somewhat copy Thugg's counting style) the count pauses make me buy nearfalls. Something about the spacing. Sorry, I would comment, but see above *Janus match*

I'm bias, on my promo.

And the ME was what I expected it to be, and it vaguely looked like some illegal fratenization was taking place. Hey and I'm in three segments in a row... no wonder I got the biggest pop.
