Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 I did this exercise in class today...its interesting (in anger). A terrible global disaster has eradicated the population of the world with the exception of the following 11 people. Only 7 can live. Pick the 7 people you would like to see create the New World and list them in the order you think is appropriate (most important to least important). Make sure you have reasons for the people you destroy as well as reasons for the order in which you've put the survivors. Think about what kind of world you would want to have. Dr. John Dane - 37 yrs old, white, no religious affiliation, PhD in history, college professor, in good health (jogs daily), hobby is botany, enjoys politics, married with one child (Bobby). Shirley Dane - 38 yrs old, white, Jewish, rather obese, diabetic, MA in psychology, counselor in a mental health clinic, married to Dr. Dane, has one child (Bobby). Bobby Dane - 10 yrs old, white, Jewish, mentally retarded w/ IQ of 70, healthy and strong for his age. Felicia Garcia - 23 yrs old, Puerto Rican, Catholic, 9th grade education, cocktail waitress, worked as a prostitute, married at age 16, divorced at age 18, one child (Eva). Eva Garcia - 3 months old, Puerto Rican, healthy. Mary Evans - 18 yrs old, Protestant, trade school education, wears glasses, artistic. Donald Newton - 25 yrs old, Black Power advocate, beginning his last year in medical school, suspected of homosexual activity, hobbies are music and physical fitness. Patricia Clark - 28 yrs old, Protestant, black, daughter of a minister, college graduate, electronics engineer, single now after brief marriage, member of Zero Population Growth (political group that believes in opting not to reproduce to get the population down). Jerry Blake - 51 yrs old, white, Mormon, BS in mechanics, married w/ 4 children, enjoys outdoors, much experience in construction, quite handy, reputation for having anti-black and anti-Semetic sentiments. Father Franz - 37 yrs old, white, Catholic priest, active in civil rights, former college athlete, farming background, often criticized for liberal political views. Dr. Julio Gonzalez - 66 yrs old, Mexican-American, Catholic, doctor in general practice, 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years, loves literature and quotes extensively. Have fun. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Well the human race is in trouble. Dr. John Dane - 37 yrs old, white, no religious affiliation, PhD in history, college professor, in good health (jogs daily), hobby is botany, enjoys politics, married with one child (Bobby). Ain't no Ph.D's in my brave new world. Buh-bye. Shirley Dane - 38 yrs old, white, Jewish, rather obese, diabetic, MA in psychology, counselor in a mental health clinic, married to Dr. Dane, has one child (Bobby). No fatties either, plus she's married to Dr. John. Bobby Dane - 10 yrs old, white, Jewish, mentally retarded w/ IQ of 70, healthy and strong for his age. Hmm, the offspring of a Ph.D. and MA is retarded. I'm shocked. Next. Felicia Garcia - 23 yrs old, Puerto Rican, Catholic, 9th grade education, cocktail waitress, worked as a prostitute, married at age 16, divorced at age 18, one child (Eva). She'd need to take a STD test, and if she's clean then she's in. Eva Garcia - 3 months old, Puerto Rican, healthy. I'm not playing step-daddy. Mary Evans - 18 yrs old, Protestant, trade school education, wears glasses, artistic. The trade-school education scares me as it pertains to the looks department, but she could always build me and Felicia a house. Donald Newton - 25 yrs old, Black Power advocate, beginning his last year in medical school, suspected of homosexual activity, hobbies are music and physical fitness. Black Power advocate? He'd probably upstage me in the "package" category in regards to my pursuit of Felicia. Out. Patricia Clark - 28 yrs old, Protestant, black, daughter of a minister, college graduate, electronics engineer, single now after brief marriage, member of Zero Population Growth (political group that believes in opting not to reproduce to get the population down). No kids? Hop on the wagon. Jerry Blake - 51 yrs old, white, Mormon, BS in mechanics, married w/ 4 children, enjoys outdoors, much experience in construction, quite handy, reputation for having anti-black and anti-Semetic sentiments. He'll pose no threat to the babes I want, and he can build stuff. I'll take 'em. Father Franz - 37 yrs old, white, Catholic priest, active in civil rights, former college athlete, farming background, often criticized for liberal political views. No -- I'm not bringing little Bobby along, so there will be nobody for Franz. Dr. Julio Gonzalez - 66 yrs old, Mexican-American, Catholic, doctor in general practice, 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years, loves literature and quotes extensively. Gotta have a doc. Well, that's 5. Oh well...
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 The mormon shall shag the women. So the survivors will be Jerry Blake, Mary, Eva, Felicia, Shirley, Donald, Dr. John.
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Dr. John Dane - He can be the president...or at least help the plant life surge. Felicia Garcia - She can help surge the reproduction if the need ever arises. Donald Newton - He can take care of those who become sick. Jerry Blake - He can help with transportation vehicles. Father Franz - Can help farm and cultivate food. Mary Evans - Can help with architecture, also needed another gal. Patricia Clark - Can help with electronics such as lighting, etc. I came up with 7...oh well, looks like that's all that's needed in my world. Reasons for those destroyed, no children wanted because they can't help. The other Jane served no purpose to me. Julio was gone cause we already have a doctor. treble 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2003 Would take: -Dr. John Dane -Patricia Clark -Felicia Garcia -Father Franz -Donald Newton -Jerry Blake -Mary Evans Reasons: Their religions didn't really factor in, I just took people who seemed to be relatively healthy and who weren't too young or too old. I wasn't going to bring Newton, since if he's gay, that's not exactly going to help make new people, but there are other men who I'm sure would be more than willing to help out on that end. Oh, and the racist mormon and the black power advocate could provide hours of entertainment. So, Wouldn't take: -Shirley Dane -Bobby Dane -Eva Garcia -Dr. Julio Gonzalez Reasons: Bobby and Eva are too young to be of any use (although I considered bringing along Bobby, since if he's strong he can do a lot of grunt work if needed). The other 2 are sick, and I don't need them either dying or wasting other people's time needing to be cared for.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Dr. John Dane - 37 yrs old, white, no religious affiliation, PhD in history, college professor, in good health (jogs daily), hobby is botany, enjoys politics, married with one child (Bobby). Yes. If the global disaster is just one to create the plot and does not effect the situation aside from limiting the number of people, then there is still plant-life, which is why it's important to have a Bontanist. Not to mention he has a PhD in history, which means he'd probably have lots of knowledge on the development of society. Young and Healthy, so he wouldn't die out quickly. Shirley Dane - 38 yrs old, white, Jewish, rather obese, diabetic, MA in psychology, counselor in a mental health clinic, married to Dr. Dane, has one child (Bobby). Diabetic is a liability. No insulin = problems. Assuming that this causes no problems with Dr. Dane, then she's gone. Bobby Dane - 10 yrs old, white, Jewish, mentally retarded w/ IQ of 70, healthy and strong for his age. Um.. at first I would consider this a liability, but then I started to think about it and realized that he'd be perfect to boss around and do the chores (there's a politically incorrect term for that, which I won't use cause it would seem nasty... ok, he'd basically be the slave of the group... but I mean that affectionately) He's in. Felicia Garcia - 23 yrs old, Puerto Rican, Catholic, 9th grade education, cocktail waitress, worked as a prostitute, married at age 16, divorced at age 18, one child (Eva). No, liability. I mean, she gave out a perfectly good baby girl - and that's cool, good for her... but there's the whole STD issue. Also, I'm thinkin about 28 Days Later and the Military - she wouldn't fare well with the guys under those conditions. Not something you'd want looming over your heads. Eva Garcia - 3 months old, Puerto Rican, healthy. Yes. Reason being - you'd have a guinea pig. If she survives, there is hope for the future. If she doesn't, you can learn from your mistakes so the next time will be done better. Mary Evans - 18 yrs old, Protestant, trade school education, wears glasses, artistic. No, same reason as above with the prostitute. Donald Newton - 25 yrs old, Black Power advocate, beginning his last year in medical school, suspected of homosexual activity, hobbies are music and physical fitness. I'll take him over the other doctor, simply because he has the longer life-span. Patricia Clark - 28 yrs old, Protestant, black, daughter of a minister, college graduate, electronics engineer, single now after brief marriage, member of Zero Population Growth (political group that believes in opting not to reproduce to get the population down). Depending on the type of world we're living in - if it is equiped with electronical devices, she's in. If it's not, yeah she's in anyways. Jerry Blake - 51 yrs old, white, Mormon, BS in mechanics, married w/ 4 children, enjoys outdoors, much experience in construction, quite handy, reputation for having anti-black and anti-Semetic sentiments. Ok, assuming that this is a "desert island" scenario where there are no buildings, then I'll keep him around. Racial prejudices usually take a backseat to life-and-death situations. He'll teach the young-ins how to build stuff. He's in. Father Franz - 37 yrs old, white, Catholic priest, active in civil rights, former college athlete, farming background, often criticized for liberal political views. Yeah, he's in. Grow crops, set up a system. Good stuff. Dr. Julio Gonzalez - 66 yrs old, Mexican-American, Catholic, doctor in general practice, 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years, loves literature and quotes extensively Nah, he's too old and would die off in a few months. Liability. Of course, this whole thing is staged - and if you don't pick the woman with diabetes, it "really" means your perfect world would have no fat and jewish people in it. If you didn't pick the old guy because he had 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years, it "really" means your perfect world would not have any old people in it... and so on. I think I only picked 2 females, one of whom is an infant - that means my "perfect" world would have no women in it... and I picked the gay guy.. who am I, Downhome?? Jesus Christ, this whole thing is staged!

Guest JMA Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Dr. John Dane - 37 yrs old, white, no religious affiliation, PhD in history, college professor, in good health (jogs daily), hobby is botany, enjoys politics, married with one child (Bobby). He's in. Good health and a knowledge of plants is essential. Having no religious affiliation is also a plus. Shirley Dane - 38 yrs old, white, Jewish, rather obese, diabetic, MA in psychology, counselor in a mental health clinic, married to Dr. Dane, has one child (Bobby). She's out. Unhealthy and not getting any younger. Humans can come to terms with most anything if they have a strong enough will, so we won't need a shrink. Bobby Dane - 10 yrs old, white, Jewish, mentally retarded w/ IQ of 70, healthy and strong for his age. He's out. His mental state is too much of a risk. I would also be hesitant about letting him reproduce. To ensure the survival of the species some hard choices have to be made. Felicia Garcia - 23 yrs old, Puerto Rican, Catholic, 9th grade education, cocktail waitress, worked as a prostitute, married at age 16, divorced at age 18, one child (Eva). She's in. She's young and has successfully delivered a healthy baby. She also wouldn't be as opposed to having several different sexual partners. Eva Garcia - 3 months old, Puerto Rican, healthy. She's in. She's still young and has her mother with her. When she's older she can be used to have children. Also young enough to learn many new skills. Mary Evans - 18 yrs old, Protestant, trade school education, wears glasses, artistic. She's in. Another young, healthy female. Art isn't really needed, but it is a nice bonus. Donald Newton - 25 yrs old, Black Power advocate, beginning his last year in medical school, suspected of homosexual activity, hobbies are music and physical fitness. He's in. He knows medicine and could keep the rest of the party in good health. He could either suck it up and have intercourse with a female or extract his semen himself manually. Patricia Clark - 28 yrs old, Protestant, black, daughter of a minister, college graduate, electronics engineer, single now after brief marriage, member of Zero Population Growth (political group that believes in opting not to reproduce to get the population down). She's out. The population is already down enough. We also have enough females. Jerry Blake - 51 yrs old, white, Mormon, BS in mechanics, married w/ 4 children, enjoys outdoors, much experience in construction, quite handy, reputation for having anti-black and anti-Semetic sentiments. He's out. This is a chance to start the world over. Bigots don't make the cut. Father Franz - 37 yrs old, white, Catholic priest, active in civil rights, former college athlete, farming background, often criticized for liberal political views. He's in. Very healthy without any predjudices. Not to mention the farming background. The priest thing is worrying if we're going to repopulate the world, but I think he'd suck it up for the greater good. Dr. Julio Gonzalez - 66 yrs old, Mexican-American, Catholic, doctor in general practice, 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years, loves literature and quotes extensively. He's in by default. He MAY be able to impregnate some of the women before he dies. Also would be useful in delivering them. Great thread, BTW.

The priest thing is worrying if we're going to repopulate the world, but I think he'd suck it up for the greater good. C'mon! He'd molest the first baby boy he'd see and would get hunted down and killed by the group! *sees own choice* I mean, GOOD CALL!

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Quite honestly, I probably wouldn't pick any of those people. I'd make up my own people, like Raven Silvernipples, the busty gothic fire-breathing performance artist and contortionist who works mainly in the Netherlands, 5'10" (6' with heels), 25 years old, with an oral fixation. Make up your own apocalypse companions, it's more fun.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Oddly enough it was a writing class. My professor's former ethics professor died and this was like her tribute. My picks: - The Danes - The Garcias - Mary Evans - Jerry Drake - Raven Silvernipples
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Hap Presley, 46 years old, short order cook. Makes a wicked steak n eggs plate, and can fry up a tenderloin and onion rings in no time. He also supplies the western half of Kentucky with crystal meth. An excellent shot, very resourceful, fearless, and vigilant, if unpredictable. Plays the fiddle. Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 Blake, Drake, 'tis all the same me lad.
Hoff 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2003 All right... 1. Father Franz This is the guy I want on my team. A former college athlete, so you know he's healthy, and he's got a farming background. I'm working off the assumption that this is some sort of "Gilligan's Island" scenario, so farming will become vital to procuring food. And at only 37, he should be around for awhile. 2. Dr. John Dane A lot of the same reasons as Father Franz. Under 40, good health, and the knowledge of botanty will come in handy when working with plants. I simply think that the farming background outweighs the botany hobby; however, this guy does have proven sperm, and so that ranks him high. 3. Donald Newton He was a tough call, at first. I do agree that race issues take a backseat to survival, and he's a fitness buff, so that helps his case. and young, too. The homosexuality thing worries me a little, because he might not be wanting to copulate, but there again, that takes a backseat to surviving. And with no medical supplies, a last-year med student ought to be good enough to fix whatever ails you. 4. Felecia Garcia Ranked high because she's a proven childbearer, and because she's young. As a prostitute, she's likely in good enough shape, and so she can help with any manual labor. The education is a nonfactor; we've already got smart people on the island to act as teachers. 5. Jerry Blake (not Jerry Drake...heh) Here again, bigotry takes a backseat to survival. A construction background is vital to the building of new homes and buildings, and while older, he's also got proven sperm. He's "handy" as well, which is bonus, and he likes being outdoors, so he shouldn't complain much about his situation. 6. Mary Evans I'm actually not too high on any of the remaining candidates, but Mary wins because she's a young woman. Like it or not, she's gonna get violated by someone, or even multiple someones. Hopefully, she'll be able to carry a child. And even if not, we're bringing along two proven mothers, and Mary does have her uses -- she's, as mentioned, young, and so can do labor, and she can also teach the children about art. 7. Shirley Dane It was a tough call between her and Dr. Gonzales, but the good Doctor is old and failing, and while obese, Shirley is a proven child bearer, and under 40. The circumstances also ought to take some weight off of her, as food will be slim. She's also a counselor, so if anyone goes crazy, she can hopefully help. For record, I had them at: 8. Dr. Gonzales 9. Bobby Dane 10. Patricia Clark 11. Eva the baby (without medicine, she'll probably die sooner rather than later)
