Fuzzy Dunlop 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 The Eastern conference only has five teams with winning records, while the Western conference only has three with losing records. Also, it has been a team from the West that has won the championship every year for the past five years. Why is this? Why are things so uneven?
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 It really can only be happenstance. It just worked out that all of the western teams have drafted better, managed better, owned better, and built better. It isn't like the West has dominant markets that FAs flock to other than LA. And if NY wasn't a joke FAs would flock there just the same. Otherwise Portland, Dallas, Minnesota, Houston, and Sacramento? These markets aren't enough to lure people. So it is just luck right now that everything is going on in the West. Nothing inherent in the western conference itself.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 A while ago, the Eastern Conference was plagued by the Bulls kicking everyone's asses. They have yet to overcome that. Which makes me wonder when will the Western Conference go in a downfall thanks to Lakers.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 The TWO~ champions of the past 5 years are the Lakers and Spurs. The Lakers are the Yankees and the Spurs are the Braves if you will of basketball they will be in the title game every year until a team like the T-Wolves, Kings, Mavs can win in the playoffs. What does the East have? The Nets, Pistons, Raptors, Pacers? Why is this? Why are things so uneven? Jerry West and Greg Popovich are the best GMs in the league. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 Luck of the draw -- look at the NFL. During the 1970s the AFC ruled the school, then the NFC dominated the 1980s. In a few years we'll probably have a thread here that asks why the NBA East is so much better than the West. OK, maybe in a decade or so...
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 Yeah the NFC is getting kicked by the AFC this year. And meanwhile, the National League has been better than the American League since what, 1901?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 13, 2003 A while ago, the Eastern Conference was plagued by the Bulls kicking everyone's asses Phil Jackson is the greatest coach ever? Or does that honor belong to Red Arbauch?

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted December 14, 2003 Sorry, but I think the NL is a better league than the AL. No DH rule, better parks, better play, everything. AL is just the Yankees, Red Sox, and A's.

Or does that honor belong to Red Arbauch? I wouldn't call Jackson the greatest coach of all time. He's just been lucky to coach some amazingly talented teams. razazteca 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2003 Phil Jackson has 9 rings with 2 teams. Very few men in the league can say that, only Bill Russell or Jerry West can say "I'm better than you" to the Zen Master.
Matt Young 0 Report post Posted December 15, 2003 Actually, make that 10 rings with 3 teams. He won one as a player with the Knicks, I believe in '79.

AL is just the Yankees, Red Sox, and A's. I agree that that NL is a better league in terms of the type of game I like to see played (Can't stand the DH rule), but I was talking in terms of World Series success...
