Guest Stunt Granny Report post Posted December 16, 2003 September '97 HBK was feuding with The Undertaker and HHH was feuding with Mankind. They threw the two feuds in a tag team ME on Raw HHH/HBK vs. Taker/Mankind. They just kinda stuck together after that match.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 Triple H & Chyna came ringside during HBK's match with Mankind on Raw a few weeks prior (during the match is when Rude made his return to the WWF). The following week (8/18/97 in Atlantic City) is when the tag match took place - which ended when HBK twice hit Taker over the head with a steel chair, busting him open. During the match, the commentators made a point of mentioning that HBK and Triple H didn't really want to be tagging together (Shawn was still kinda face at the time) ... that wasn't necessarily the case as the audience later found out. A few weeks later was IYH: Ground Zero and by that time Triple H's feud with Mankind had died out so he just hung around Shawn and acted as backup.

Papacita 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 And for the record, it was Bret Hart who first called them De-Generation-X, if memory serves... Nah. Bret had been calling Shawn a degenerate on and off throughout the year, but Shawn was the one who coined the DX name on (I believe) the 10/13/97 Raw. The Metal Maniac 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 I'd like to look further into that... I'm almost positive that I can recall Bret doing an in-ring promo, and then DX popped up on the screen. I seem to recall that HHH and HBK made some big dick jokes (big surprise, eh?) and it seemed to be leading to a HHH/Bret match down the road. But I'm legit almost positive that Bret said something along the lines of "You're just a bunch of Degenerates. Degeneration X, that's all," to which HBK replied "Hey, I kinda like that..." Are there any sites which would have this kind of info?
Papacita 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 (edited) Edit: Here's the exact quote from Shawn: And you talk about us being Degenerates. You know what, I am tired of Generation X getting a bad rap. Do you think you're a degenerate (to Hunter)? I mean, I'm positive I'm one [Hunter - I guess I'd have to be one]. You know what? Generation X always gets a bad rap; everybody calls us degenerates. Degeneration X...is that us? Degeneration X! Triple H, HBK, Chyna> Ravishing Rick. We are Degeneration X! You make the rules, and we will break them! cawthon777 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 If you count the 2000 version, they just drifted apart. Even though Triple H was wearing the colors from time to time, he was better utlized as a singles wrestler and didn't need DX around. X-Pac & Road Dogg were tagging but then they started feuding in August, with Road Dogg turning heel. I guess you could refer to that as the final nail in the coffin. Vanhalen 0 Report post Posted December 16, 2003 If you watch WWE One Night Only, you can see the first time DX come together in 1997, they were testing the reaction of the English, before putting it together in america, shame they dont do that more often for UK PPV's
Guest Stunt Granny Report post Posted December 16, 2003 DX teamed together one last time in October 2000 to take on the Radicalz. After that, they pretty much put it to bed. Though X-Pac had X-Factor shortly after, one of the greatest stables of all time. Edit: I just remembered the night after Vengence 2002 DX reformed for about 5 minutes until HHH Pedigreed Shawn straight to hell.

Shawn and Hunter even attacked the British Bulldog on a Raw to build up to the Euro title match.

Ace309 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Correct me if I'm wrong here, but wasn't Degeneration-X just a ripoff of Kaientai? I'd have to disagree. As I recall, the Kaientai DX name was a garbling of "Deluxe." I also think that "Degeneration X" was coined by a columnist in... the New York Times, was it? If you want to say that the stables were similar... well, okay, but only in the same way that every rudo stable is similar.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted December 18, 2003 How did D-X break apart in 1999 (before the unwanted return in October)?
Steve J. Rogers 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 How did D-X break apart in 1999 (before the unwanted return in October)? WM of that year, the Raw after the Rumble HHH challanged The Rock to a "I Quit" match for the championship, HHH had Rocky seconds away from saying "I Quit" when Rock's Corporation teamates Kane, Shamrock and Bossman had Chyna ready for a chokeslam and were going to do it if HHH didn't say "I Quit" and he did, then Chyna turned on him Flash forward to WM, HHH vs Kane and the Russoific swerves begin. Chyna turns on Kane (whom she had been working with as a second) and joins HHH. Later X-Pac faced Shane McMahon for the Euro title and it was during this match that HHH turned on X-Pac given Shane the win and the title. Essentially turning HHH and Chyna into members of the Corporation and kicking Kane out of the Corporation X-Pac and Kane would soon join forces and sometime around May Road Dogg and Billy Gunn split up so occasionally X-Pac and Road Dogg would tag as well Actually D-X v3.0 came out in the fall when the new champion, Triple H, needed a posse. The Outlaws reuinited, X-Pac rejoined and turned on Kane and Chyna was pretty much phased out as she would be showing up as a face as a singles wrestler in a fued against Jeff Jarrett and later Chris Jericho so enter Stephanie McMahon, soon to be Stephaine McMahon-Helmsley in November of 1999 That version of D-X was pretty much dispersed with no real final breakup moment. Gunn got hurt, Road Dogg got canned and X-Pac started X-Factor Then there was the 5 second HHH-HBK reuion... Steve

Possibly that was a dig at Hall/Nash/Syxx Or some Vince Russoesque inside reference D-X did alot of inside references during their early days with signs and they even aired the MSG footage complete with Shawn asking Hunter "Wait! How can that be, weren't you a bad guy and wasn't I a good guy?"

Some Guy 0 Report post Posted December 20, 2003 The original DX was called "the Clique" or "Kliq" depending on how you want to spell it for a week or two after they showed the MSG hug fest on Raw, which was pretty cool at the time. On "One Night Only" they were calling themselves the "Triple Threat" and then Shawn named the group DX during a Bret promo as some one already mentioned. As a side note HBK and Mankind had a great match on Raw the night Rick Rude redebuted. Shawn was on an incredible roll in late '97, it was probably his best time as a worker. The Taker feud, the Bret match as SS '97 before the ending, the Owen match on Raw, the aforementioned match with Foley, etc...
