Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Jamie-Lee Curtis got nominated? Must've been a fuckin slow year for movies.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Jamie Lee has gotten a lot of critical acclaim for her role in Freaky Friday- they were even hinting at a possible Oscar nod in EW
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Jack Nicholson, Something's Gotta Give Didn't that just come out? Ugh...no QESG nominations? Whatever.
chirs3 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Uma Thurman as best actress... for Kill Bill? She was the very definition of AVERAGE in that movie, inoffensive but completely unspectacular. Where the hell did that nomination come from?
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Of course, I am prepared to get laughed at and made fun of for this, but I feel like maybe Bruce Campbell got robbed of a nod here. The man was an amazing Elvis in B movie deluxe "Bubba Ho Tep" and I think should have gotten at least one of the comedy nods. Easily the best Elvis performance ever. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Also, QEFTSG is more than likely in the reality catergory they added that I don't see listed.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Yuna- QEFTSG isn't eligible for any TV categories in the Golden Globes. About SGG- The Golden Globe members get the movies on tape or screenings way before they come out. That's how movies that aren't out yet are nominated
Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 And that is how (hopefully) within a few weeks I'll have me a copy of New Line's screener DVD of Return of The King.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Man, this is the first time in a while that I have no idea who's gonna win. Last year Chicago was the one that was gonna win everything, before that (I think) it was A Beautiful Mind etc. Oh, and Billy Crudup not getting nominated
Yuna_Firerose 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 QEFTSG isn't eligible for any TV categories in the Golden Globes. Ah, okay, my bad. Also, QEFTSG is more than likely in the reality catergory they added that I don't see listed. QE isn't a reality show like 'Survivor' or 'Joe Millionaire'. It's simply real people getting helped by other real people.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 Also, QEFTSG is more than likely in the reality catergory they added that I don't see listed. QE isn't a reality show like 'Survivor' or 'Joe Millionaire'. It's simply real people getting helped by other real people. However, the key words are "real people". Any situation that has real people being themselves in a setting not news based is actually "reality tv" Real World, is a reality show even though it is not like Joe or Survivor. QEFTSG is a reality show just because they are real people giving a make-over to a real guy and it's not scripted (yeah right, just like Survivor and Joe Millionaire wasn't). Also, I hope that didn't come across as insulting or anything. It wasn't meant in any such way.

Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2003 I'm deeply pleased at all the Lost In Translation nominations. It's wonderful, and I hope this translates into a few Oscar nominations. Pointless as the actual awards are, I do like to see the really good stuff get acknowledged. Though I didn't see many of the Best Drama nominees missing out on Best Picture - Return of the King, Mystic River, and Cold Mountain are locks and Master and Commander has had a lot of buzz too - so the chances of the comedies getting in are pretty low. spiny norman 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 I would say of those currently released that Finding Nemo, Kill Bill, Return Of The King, Lost In Translation and Mystic River should be the Best Picture nominees. That will never happen of course, but they deserve it. Yeah, those nominations are okay, though I think Whale Rider, X2 and Dogville deserve more love. NYU 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 I might be the only one, but I think Colin Farrell should have definitely been given a Best Actor nomination for Phone Booth. I really can't think of anybody that did a better job with a role this year than Farrell. Personally, I think he was screwed with that. And yeah....Jamie Lee Curtis being nominated for a Best Actress award is pretty laughable.
DMann2003 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 Unless you've seen Freaky Friday, which I have, and realize how good a job she does in the film. Oh and anyone watching Trio's expose on the Globes, it's on right now.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 Jamie Lee has gotten a lot of critical acclaim for her role in Freaky Friday- they were even hinting at a possible Oscar nod in EW I haven't seen the movie so I can't judge her performence, but if Freaky Friday that's already been a movie two times and has countless other movies based on the exact same idea has anyone even nominated for an Oscar I'm never seeing another movie again. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2003 According to rottentomatoes- Freaky Friday has an 89% approval rating. 114 reviews praising the film. 10 dissing it

'translation' will easily be the indie darling that becomes the dark horse in the oscar nominations, i spotted it once the buzz had arrived. the only one to only approach it in popular buzz was 'american splendor', & that one's just too weird for academy tastes. of course, this movie won't actually win anything, except maybe the "best screenplay" consolation prize the dark horses often get, or a "best actor" trophy for murray. and way to go on scarlett being nominated in two different categories. that girl rules the world. and my heart.
