Aero Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 So, how does everyone rank all of 2003's PPVs? I'd say they were split down the middle of good ones and bad ones, with the bad just edging out the good. Here's mine... 1. Wrestlemania XIX 2. Vengeance 3. Summerslam 4. Survivor Series 5. Royal Rumble 6. No Mercy 7. No Way Out 8. Backlash 9. Armageddon 10. Judgment Day 11. Bad Blood 12. Unforgiven Deciding between Vengeance and WM XIX for # 1 was a close-call, but I like WM XIX better for the epic, WM feel and all.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 1. Wrestlemania XIX 2. Royal Rumble 3. Vengeance 4. Survivor Series 5. Judgment Day 6. Summerslam 7. No Mercy 8. No Way Out 9. Armageddon 10. Unforgiven 11. Bad Blood 12. Backlash

BifEverchad Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 01. Wrestlemania XIX 02. Royal Rumble 03. Vengeance 04. Survivor Series 05. Summerslam 06. Judgment Day 07. No Way Out 08. No Mercy 09. Armageddon 10. Unforgiven 11. Backlash 12. Bad Blood
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Vengeance rules because its the only PPV with Ultimo Dragon...well, he was on Heat, BUT THAT COUNTS DAMN IT! COUNT ITTTTTTTT!!! (whimpers)
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 1. Royal Rumble Angle-Benoit is the only match this year I still watch repeatedly. Plus I am a mark for the rumble match. 2. Wrestlemania 3. Vengeance Those are the only three WWF PPVs I saw this year.
razazteca Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 What was good about Vengence again?
Tawren Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 What was good about Vengence again? Benoit/Guerrero, Mysterio and Kidman vs TWGTT, Taker/Cena, Angle/Show/Lesnar were all good -> great matches. 1. Vengeance 2. No Way Out 3. WrestleMania 4. Royal Rumble (for Angle/Benoit alone) 5. No Mercy 6. SummerSlam 7. Survivor Series 8. Judgment Day 9. Bad Blood 10. Unforgiven 11. Backlash 12. Armaggedon
Kardo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 WGTT vs. Rey/Kidman Brock vs. Angle vs. Big Show Benoit vs. Guerrero
razazteca Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Giving a list of the good matches from the PPV would help to explain why the show was worth the money.
Mole Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I only saw WM and SummerSlam, so I can't comment. You guys actually saw all 12 PPVs? Wow, that's a waste of money if you didn't see it at a bar or with a black box.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 There's only 2 matches that I would highlight for Vengeance and that would be the tag match w. Team Angle and Taker vs. Cena. Benoit/Guerrero was crap, and the 3 way was *shudders*.... Anywho, Pride Final Conflict Pride 25: Body Blow Pride Total Elimination UFC 43 UFC 44 Pride 26: Bad to the Bone *shrugs* Whuddya expect? MMA murdered Wrestling this year in terms of quality shows.
Tawren Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 You guys actually saw all 12 PPVs? Wow, that's a waste of money if you didn't see it at a bar or with a black box. I watched them at a friends, then watched the tape/DVD later.
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Damn you RRR. I was predicting within 10 posts you would do that. You're slacking in your old age. For shame, for shame.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 I only saw WM and SummerSlam, so I can't comment. You guys actually saw all 12 PPVs? Wow, that's a waste of money if you didn't see it at a bar or with a black box. Not to offend anyone, but i'm not a picky little prick. I only found 2 PPV's to be BAD. Backlash & Bad Blood. Everything else I enjoyed either enough to say I didn't waste money or to a point I was like "Holy Fuck that was good".
Brocklock Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 1. Wrestlemania 2. Vengeance 3. Royal Rumble 4. Summerslam 5. No Mercy 6. Survivor Series 7. No Way Out 8. Unforgiven 9. Bad Blood 10. Backlash 11. Judgment Day 12. Armageddon
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Dude, I SO was going to be one of the first 5 people who posted in this - but I figured I might be coming off too strong and decided to wait a while so these lower-forms-of-life-that-are-WWE-PPV-purchasing-fans could discuss their crappy shows.. Didn't want to come off too strong, you see

If anyone is a GoD, it's Joss Whedon.
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 :smacks RRR for insulting me: Hey, I bought two of them live (RR on DVD).

Kahran Ramsus Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 1. Wrestlemania 2. Vengeance. The good stuff at Vengeance was better than the good stuff at Mania, but the bad stuff was worse. I enjoyed Wrestlemania more as a whole. 3. Royal Rumble 4. Survivor Series 5. No Mercy 6. Summerslam 7. Backlash. Things really begin to bottom out around here. 8. Unforgiven 9. Judgment Day 10. Badd Blood 11. Armageddon 12. No Way Out. Just awful with three negative star matches to end the show.
razazteca Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Shrills Suncoast for cheap old MMA dvds.
bob_barron Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 1. Vengeance 2. XIX 3. Royal Rumble 4. Summerslam 5. Survivor Series 6. No Way Out 7. No Mercy 8. Bad Blood 9. Armageddon 10.Backlash 11.Unforgiven 12. Judgement Day
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 If you took the Vengeance PPV and had the same matches/performances on a WM or a RR, would it still be as highly regarded? It seems to benefit quite a bit from the low expectations going into it.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Pride SUCKS at coming out with DVD's. They're just getting around to releasing PRIDE 20: Armed and Ready. Each show generally has a really good match on it (usually due to Sakuraba - his match with Carlos Newton has better mat wrestling than you will see in 99% of pro wrestling), but the ones I recommend have at least 3 which make it worth watching. www.sherdog.com is selling em cheap (10 bucks), Pride 10 - Is probably the most recommended show for newcomers to Pride. It features a lot of “old stars” (which, given the turnover rate of stars in MMA, is only after 3 years) and really got the ball rolling for PRIDE. Mezger/Silva, Vovchanchyn/Inoue, Sakuraba/Renzo are all really freakin good matches. Plus there are some _sick_ KO’s in it. Pride 12 - Silva vs. Henderson rules. Sakuraba vs. Gracie is really good. This was the first Pride a friend-of-mine saw and he became instantly hooked. Pride 14 - Daijiro Matsui vs. Pele is really, really good. Shoji vs. Henderson is non-stop. Silva continues to build his reputation. Mezger vs. Liddell is back-and-forth action with a sick finish. Pride 17 - a really awesome bout between Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera and Heath Herring. One of the best heavyweight fights you will see. This is the show where they determine the 2 champions (Heavyweight and Middleweight) and it’s in the Tokyo Dome so the atmosphere is amazing. This show has a lil bit of everything on it and features mainly current fighters. - these are the top 4. If you can get Pride 19 and 20, do so. Newton vs. Pele is stunning, as is Ninja vs. Sperry. But the _really_ awesome shows have came out this year. Pride 25 was _the_ best show I've seen *ever* up until Pride Final Conflict... and had those 2 not happened this year, Pride Total Elimination would have taken the cake... so we're talkin about 3 shows in the top 5 in this year alone. That's like... unheard of. Which is why I had to bring it up in this thread... yeah, THAT'S why...
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Thank God my local Sam Goody (or is it Goodies? I keep forgetting) has a bunch of Pride DVD's...to bad they still sell XPW crap.
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Vengeance shouldn't have had low expectations going into it. The WWE tends to do their big 3 ways well, Benoit vs. Guerrero and Team Angle vs. Filthy Animals were guaranteed to be "good" - 3 matches on the show that were *** gimmies. Taker vs. Cena delivered - IMO - better than any of them (I had high expectations for the tag match - and I had the misfortune of reading a review of Benoit/Guerrero by Frank Jewett which tore it apart and I couldn't help noticing the things he wrote), so I don't get how there were low expectations for the show (didn't get it then either). As for my earlier comment, I'm lucky LOTC buys the DVD's of the "good shows" and I get to mooch off him
RavishingRickRudo Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Shit, I saw some DVD's up here at Starstruck entertainment (in Square 1, GO THERE) that I _never_ see anywhere else (Gladiator Challenge 8 pack, some MLW DVD's - or some Florida promotion - JCW dvds, King of the Cage DVD's... they don't sell PRIDE DVD's though RRR: Has one Pride DVD.... Pride 9... *smacks head*... I could have had Pride 10 but I chose 9 because it had Carlos Newton and Vitor Belfort on it... WAS I EVER SO YOUNG??!?!
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 It had low expectations for me because: -I don't really give a flying fuck about Kidman so I didn't think I would get into the tag match much. -Taker/Cena had to have no good prospects going into the match. I don't recall Taker having a hot streak until that match. -I don't like the three ways. I am not saying that I had expectations for it to be like a Raw only PPV. But, for me personally, I bought it for Benoit/Guerrero and that alone.
the pinjockey Posted December 23, 2003 Report Posted December 23, 2003 Maybe I ought to go pop in my copy of Pride 10.
