1234-5678 Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Dennis Rodman is trying to revive his basketball career with the Long Beach Jam of the American Basketball Association. The 42-year-old former NBA star signed a contract Friday and will start practicing with the team after Christmas, said Steve Chase, president of the first-year franchise. Rodman, who last played in the NBA in 2000 with the Dallas Mavericks, most likely will play his first game for the Jam in mid-January, Chase told the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Terms of Rodman's contract weren't released. ABA guidelines limit a team's player payroll to $120,000 per season. Rodman led the NBA in rebounds seven times but hasn't played since being released by the Mavericks. He was arrested in October in Las Vegas and charged with driving under the influence after crashing a motorcycle. He also was arrested in September in Newport Beach for investigation of being drunk in public.
Steviekick Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Didn't the NBA buy out the ABA at some point?
DerangedHermit Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Thank god you didn't see the plans for the World Hockey Association.
Vern Gagne Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Rodman wasn't even that great a rebounder when he finished playing in the NBA 4 years ago.
The Czech Republic Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Thank god you didn't see the plans for the World Hockey Association. That Jeremy Roenick might play there? That the powder blue-sporting Nords would come back? What? What's so awful?
Shanghai Kid Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Vern, in Rodmans last year with the Mavericks he was averaging 12-13 rebounds a game. That's up there with Ben Wallace.
1234-5678 Posted December 28, 2003 Author Report Posted December 28, 2003 Poor bastard must need the money, and his name means nothing anymore, so it's not like Vince would give him a shot to get back in the ring.
jimmy no nose Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 (edited) Terms of Rodman's contract weren't released. ABA guidelines limit a team's player payroll to $120,000 per season. $120,000 for the whole team? I guess that would mean he makes almost nothing. I'm pretty sure he doesn't need the money. He does the majority of his partying without paying for anything. Plus if he needed money he could just do Celebrity Daredevil 2. Edited December 28, 2003 by jimmy no nose

Steviekick Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 I'm sure he can still play a smart game. I just wonder how well he can hold up on the physical end.
