This just in......

Recommended Posts

What happened was that Snyder wasn't willing to give Spurrier extra leverage on roster upgrades, he wouldn't give him any extra control.

Snyder strikes again, and now the hopeless Redskins have to go through ANOTHER era and ANOTHER coach. They just overpaid Lavarr, and now they're going to lose Champ. Let the rebuilding start over again.

Spurrier is such a quitter.

He can't make it work for 2 seasons so he runs crying back to the college ranks.

Where's Spurrier going to go? There aren't exactly a lot of prominent vacancies in D-I right now, and after his flop with the Redskins, I doubt any of the 6 pro teams looking for coaches will think about paying off his $15 million.

The story is on ESPN. Spurrier is denying that he resigned, yet the Skins FO is reporting he called Snyder and resigned much to the chagrin of Snyder. I hate to admit it but my team has become the laughing stock of the league.

Either Redskin fans got so desperate to get Spurrier out that they made crank calls to do it, or Spurrier is trying to pull a Monty Python routine with Snyder.

Snyder: But you said you quit!

Spurrier: No I didn't

Snyder: Yes you did. You called me this morning

Spurrier: ....I did not.

Snyder: You did to you bloody wanker!

Spurrier: Well you must have imagined that right there let me tell you.

As a Tennessee fan, I'm conditioned to burn the ground that Spurrier walks on, so...

Get the fuck off of my TV forever, Spurrier. Don't let the door hit you on your visor-wearin' ass on the way out.

Go Vols.

If he is gone, he'll always have a job waiting at Duke or hell, even Florida if he wants it back. Zonk would be gone before dinner.

Spurrier WILL have a job if he wants one. But the guy deserved three years to try to fix things. God, even in video games you get three years.

God, even in video games you get three years.

But in video games, rational takes place over common stupidity.

In real life, common stupidity takes place over rational.

Quite sad, isn't it?

Very, very sad.

I can't believe people expect a guy to turn around a team in two years with little to no talent to work with.

If they sucked after NEXT season, then yeah he should go.

This is right up there with firing Dan Reeves for the Falcons being unable to win without Michael (I refuse to call him MIKE) Vick.

Yup. Nothing is right in the world anymore.

THIS, is the major reason why the sporting world is becoming a parity. No one can wait for a winning team to come to them. They want it right now, and hence why teams that did great a year a go, suck.

They don't try and let it happen, they just crash along till it DOES happen.

But the thing is.....

he took an 8-8 team and made them worse. Marty, while I'm not a huge fan, had a terrible start with the team and had them on the right path. Spurrier has done absolutely nothing. Look at the job Marvin Lewis did. He had nothing as far as talent goes and he turned a 2-14 team into one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL.

This finally just in:

Spurrier resigned.

God, this guy is becoming the Ross Perot of Football.

"Danny, Danny...I can't do it anymore. I'm out, I quit"

20 minutes later

"Danny, I'd like to say I never quit, I would never give up on the franchise. I'm back at coach and I swear we'll have a great season."

10 minutes later

"Danny, I took a long look in the bathroom mirror and decided if the milk is sour then the cow has herpes. It's time for me to leave."

5 minutes later

"Danny, Danny, I called my wife and realized that the hen isn't going to make the butter without the help of the wolf. I'm back Danny"

And just keeps doing it for the rest of the day.

I agree that Spurrier can have almost any college job he wants. I guarantee Nebraska has called him already.

The way I look at it, this was like Spurrier's first year at Washington since he basically had to start over after last years Florida experiment. I do not know if an NFL team will take a chance on him as a head coach, but an O Coordinator job would be his without too much trouble.

Im glad he quit, but now I wonder who Snyder will put in there. My guess is, no coach will come in because of the history between Snyder and Head Coaches. So Snyder will just name himself head coach.

They might actually go 0-16 next year if that happens.

In the Madden series, McGinnis always resigns at the end of just about every Franchise Year 1 game I made...

I imagine Jim Fassel will take the job. They have a decent offense (need a RB) and he will help the defense which seriously underachieved.

IMO, this had nothing to do with Spurrier being a bad coach, rather it was apparent that Spurrier simply wasn't ready for the time you have to put in as being an NFL head coach. He said it himself on the way in.....and on the way out.
