NBA All-Star picks

Recommended Posts

All-Star weekend is coming up in about a month, and I was curious who everyone here thinks should be on the team.

The likely starters, according to voting, is looking like this:

East

G: Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady

F: Vince Carter, Jermaine O'Neal

C: Ben Wallace

That doesn't look to be changing in the frontcourt, at least. Jason Kidd COULD sneak into McGrady's spot, but it's not likely. I don't know when Iverson will be back either.

West

G: Kobe Bryant, Steve Francis

F: Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett

C: Shaquille O'Neal

The race for the second guard spot is tightly contested between, Francis, Nash and Payton. Everything else should stay the same though.

Keep in mind this is fan voting, not my opinion. Not that I have any major beefs with these starters, save for possibly Francis, who is having a subpar season by his standards.

Now then, here are my choices for reserves:

East:

Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Paul Pierce

Carlos Boozer

Ron Artest

Jason Kidd

Baron Davis

Zydrunas Ilgauskas (mainly just because there's no other really good centers in the East)

West

Steve Nash

Sam Cassell

Corey Magette

Zach Randolph

Peja Stojakovic

Brad Miller

Andrei Kirilenko

Players I thought hard about, but left off:

LeBron James

Mike Bibby

Manu Ginobili

Kenyon Martin (yes, I admit it)

Stephon Marbury

Okay, your turn.

I think the starters for the East will remain as is

G- Iverson

G- McGrady

F- Carter

F- O'Neal

C- Wallace

The West however is a different story, Yao will pass Shaq when the China votes are counted

G- Bryant

G- Francis

F- Duncan

F- Garnett

C- Ming

Now for my reserves

East:

Lebron James

Baron Davis

Paul Pierce

Michael Redd

Shareef Abdur-Rahim

Jason Kidd

Ron Artest

I just could find another PF or C worthy of being an All Star

West:

Peja Stojakovic

Zach Randolph

Andrei Kirilenko

Sam Cassell

Shaquille O'Neal

Antoine Walker

Corey Maggette

NBA All Star game is a joke. Pure popularity contest...I mean a player doesn't even need to be healthy to get in. If they went by stats it would have to be

East

Guards; Pierce(his numbers are actually up from last year) and Kidd(I hate the guy but he's got like 5 triple doubles this year)

Forwards; Shareef Abdur-Raheem, Ben Wallace(he's really a PF)

Center; Jermaine O'Neil

West

Guards; Cassell and Ginobilli

Forwards; Duncan and Garnett

C; Brad Miller (he's had a better year than Shaq...check the stats)

I checked the stats, and Shaq has more points, blocks, and rebounds per game.

They have the same amount of rebounds at 307 but its more than just points, blocks and rebounds

Brad Miller has 62 more assists than Shaq to go along with 18 more steals and a FT% that is .25 more than Shaq's. Brad Miller also has less turnovers in 70more minutes played.

Seeing as how Miller is the third or fourth scoring option on the Kings right now he's not too far behind Shaq in the points department with all things considered.

Baron Davis should be starting for the East at guard IMO. Him and Kidd in the backcourt, T-Mac is a great scorer but thats about it, I'd take BD or Kidd over him any day. Gotta admit, Pierce deserves a look at the position too, he's hovering around .500 with a not very good team at all.

I watched Baron Davis play Tuesday (on TV) when they played the Celts...he gave some ref a blowjob because during his lay-ups he had an out stretched left arm and yet they never called an offensive foul. Then when he was dribbling it he would purposely drive into people's arms to get them called for reach in fouls. He's the kind of player I hate...all sorts of talent but he abuses the system instead.

Also you could beat the Hornets if you employed the Hack-a-Baron system...can't hit a FT if his life depended on it.

Well, with Marbury now being on the Knicks, he obviously won't be on the West All-Stars.

I'll go with Corey Magette in his spot.

Umm, Peja Stojakovic should be STARTING this year. He has basically carried the Kings while Webber has been hurt and the only weak part of his game(defense) has been greatly improved this season. Does Kobe really deserve to start this year?

I was about to say the same thing. I'm not a Kings fan by any stretch, but the man has the second highest scoring average in the league. Also, being a T-Wolves fan, I must also question the lack of Sprewell love.
