Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Wow...about a whole third of the audience is cheering. In Alabama. And I only watched bits and pieces of the show and nothing after Cena/Train, but didn't Big Bad Bob give a pro-Alabama speech beforehand? Anyway, I echo LOTC's statements about Cole and Tazz. Instead of calling the match, Cole now has to make these ultra-annoying, really dorky hard-sell comments and Tazz (justifiably) mocks him for it.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 I'll admit I was laughing during the Billy Gunn segment. I'm guessing #2 will be DX, and #1 will be Chuck & Billy. Knoble owns. Can't wait to see the Rey/Knoble feud.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Liked Smackdown tonight or at least the parts I watched. The Guerreros segments were top notch and I really enjoyed the mini Royal Rumble. Benoit broke out the frankensteiner reversal to the powerbomb. I haven't seen that in a long time. Loved it. Billy Gunn's segment was fun. I'm always a mark for the over the top cocky heel promos. Papacita 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Liked Smackdown tonight or at least the parts I watched. The Guerreros segments were top notch Except for the bizarre Angle involvement. Well, you could look at it as Kurt's visit to the troops teaching him the importance of family, which is why he's so concerned with Eddie and Chavo.

I should've mentioned I didn't see the interview segment as I was watching Seinfeld on TBS. We'll see what happens with Angle but I thought that the Los Guerreros breakup was terrific. Did he? I can't recall them ever having a serious feud. I dunno, the whole "troops" explanation seemed to be where they were going with Kurt's heartfelt speech last week, but they barely touched upon it tonight, so I dunno. As weak as it is, that seems to be the best explanation for his involvement.

And the Guerreros/Team Angle stuff didn't really heat up til after Kurt's injury, so he wasn't really involved in it.

Angle and Eddy/Chavo are BESTEST FRIENDS IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! After all, don't ALL friends fight each other over tag belts for three months? And isn't a trademark of a REAL FRIEND to send out his proteges to take the tag titles from his friends? They have NEVER liked each other. Why does Kurt like them now? When did I say that they were friends? All I said was that Kurt and Eddie never had a serious feud, so nothing in WWE history that indicated that they hated one another. Now as far as why he "likes" Eddie now...with WWE, who knows, but again, I was looking at it as Kurt's experience in Iraq giving him either a new appreciation for family or leading him to go on some kind of crusade to bring family values or unity back to the WWE, which would probably lead to some kinda heel turn. If this was the case, it'd probably be more an issue of Kurt furthering his cause than actually liking Eddie.

RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Smackdown is usually always better than the spoilers sound... doesn't make it good, but it tends to be better than people going into it think. .... of course, I didn't watch it. Better beware Goodear, a few more outburts and you'll be off my writing team
Guest Goodear Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Sorry cheif. I just totally lost interest due to the Guerreros-Angle angle and The Bashams are basically my 'Randy Orton' with all the connotations within. Plus I had a ten stroke lead in a Tiger Woods tornament that held my interest much better.
notJames 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 I'm not sure the bookers know what they're doing with Buttplug Holly. They're trying to build him up as the hothead face seeking revenge on the evil champion, but everything he's done so far reeks of impotent heel. First he gets DQ'd last week and lays out Show with a chair. Then this week, after not putting up a lot of offense, he puts on a very heelish chair choke on Show for the tap out. Maybe they were trying for a sadistic "just desserts" thing ala Magnum TA in his I Quit match with Tully Blanchard, but there really was no buildup to it, and it just makes Holly look like a jerk. What sucks is there's no way to guage true crowd response, since SD! sweetens the sound on their broadcasts. But I'd bet that not many people were cheering Holly's antics, no matter how much of a "bad guy" Show is.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 They've taken the focus off of Holly's revenge and made it the basic "He's after your belt Brock" face chase. Hardcore shouldn't care about winning and losing, just revenge. (Survivor Series, his DQ against the Big Show)
Guest Goodear Report post Posted January 9, 2004 Agreed, the most they could have gotten out of Holly (being what it is) would have been to set him up on a 'suicide mission' where he only cares about hurting Brock any which way he can. Which would have made Brock's apprehension about the match all the more sensical since his character is so wrapped up in being the champion. Of course, I would have blown this thing off already on Smackdown... but thats me.
humongous2002 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 An ok show, Holly in the main event was brutal and it'll be brutal at the Rumble, Guerreros break up was handled nicely and it seems that Angle will turn heel AGAIN, and as always the fans were going crazy for Cena and Eddy, sorry but Benoit is not as over with the marks compared to these two.
