Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/news/newsboard.php?news_id=8450 Farm system looks weak... The general feeling is that WWE is no longer high on the remaining talent in their OVW farm system. The remaining talent is mostly cruiserweights, not big guys that Vince McMahon would consider bringing in and pushing. Credit: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter Will there ever be a day Vince pushes a cruiserweight?

Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Already posted. And unless its Rey Mysterio... no.
dubq Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 If you can call what Rey's getting "a push"
Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 15, 2004 Author Report Posted January 15, 2004 Sorry, didn't see it. Let's change this up then... Will Vince ever push the lightweights besides the ones that have done something in the past (like Michaels and Mysterio as mention above)? He didn't even push Ultimo Dragon though...
Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 15, 2004 Author Report Posted January 15, 2004 Yeah... good point.... ok I lose...
Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 The thing about cruiserweights is quite simply what they have in skills, they lack in personality (which makes the misuse of Spanky all the more puzzling). So you're never going to see Ultimo pushed really heavy in WWE since he's kind of bland in the crowd interaction department if he's not given 15-20 minutes. This also expains why the four 'most pushed' cruisers are Rey, Noble, Tajiri and Hurricane.
Open the Muggy Gate Posted January 15, 2004 Author Report Posted January 15, 2004 That might explain Paul London then... is that also the reason Nunzio gets to run around with the bigger guys? Same with Chavo and Eddie as well...
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 I agree with the title of this thread. They're obviously high off something else.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 What about Jericho? He was a cruiserweight champion.
Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Sorry, I keep downsizing 'cruisers' to about 210 pounds and below now since every other indy guy is like 150 pounds. I look at Jericho and think heavyweight anymore since he's relatively thick.
Lightning Flik Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 What about Jericho? He was a cruiserweight champion. He's seen as a Demi-Hoss, which makes him excempt from the normal people rule. Being Demi-Hoss allows you to have some Hossian qualities that the Almighty Hosser, Vince, loves. More or less Jericho is just to freaking good for Vince to hold down. That's about all I got. Still though, I like what I see of OVW crop, but they need to let the guys bust loose.
Guest Anglesault Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Already posted. And unless its Rey Mysterio... no. Rey is pushed?
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Cruiserweight champion, biotch, whatcha call dat? ... oh, look at all those worms... on the floor... whatever will I do with this can I opened?
Markme123 Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Like Goodear said, Jericho is a "Demi-Hoss" (?) because he isn't exactly the same size he was in 97-98. He was put on considerable muscle/mass. As has Kurt, HHH, Rey, ect.
Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Cruiserweight champion, biotch, whatcha call dat? He's obviously the most pushed of the really mini-cruisers since he's actually beaten heavyweights a time or two and even against Lesnar isn't squashed. Well he's squashed in that Lesnar eventually gets a hold of him and tosses him 800 feet in the air. But he gets way more offense than like any other cruiserweight would.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Does "pushed more than the other cruiserweights" really mean anything?
Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Nah. But Rey's a solid midcard staple... like Eddie Guerrero or A-Train.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 He's more marketable than both. Not that I'm saying he should be up in the heavyweight division, but they should maybe start pushing the division beyond evil Knoble and Tajiri. They do *way* more with the womens division, comparitively.
Guest wildpegasus Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 A little off topic , but I saw Knoble on Velocity a little while ago and he seemed to have lost a lot of muscle. Don't get me wrong, he's still in great shape but appeared to be smalller. Did anyone else notice this?
Guest Goodear Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Rey's more marketable than Eddie? Huh. I also think they can get more out of the cruiserweight division than they are but they need to use Nunzio as a more serious threat and try to get Moore over as a psuedo-Hardy risktaker. I just can't imagine Ultimo ever fitting in and I can make no comments about London since I've amanged to miss every time he's ever been on SD! since it only happened once.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Rey is way more marketable than Eddie simply because of the mask. He has the Mexican demographic as well.
Guest Quik Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 I'm trying to pinpoint when exactly Vince's big man fetish from the 80's came back to haunt us. Was it sometime after the Invasion maybe? You'd think maybe associating low buyrates and ratings with the current formula might mean something. Or maybe the fact that the only hoss who has gotten over is Brock, the guy who can.. y'know, uh, wrestle. Dumb fucking Roid-fetished sonuvabitch McMahon.
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Any time business is down, Vince will push a big guy. Mabel, Nash, Sid, Taker all pushed in 95/96 period. There's actually sound reasoning behind it, but you begin to numb the fans when you load the roster with huge guys.
Spaceman Spiff Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 A little off topic , but I saw Knoble on Velocity a little while ago and he seemed to have lost a lot of muscle. Don't get me wrong, he's still in great shape but appeared to be smalller. Did anyone else notice this? He's been like that for a while now. He was pretty "buff" when they 1st brought him on the roster, but ever since his post-CW Champ de-push, he's been around the same size he is now.
Styles Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 The solution is simple: We need another steroid crisis. Remember when the feds indicted him in 92 all of a sudden Bret and Shawn, 2 small guys became the top stars pushed, and most of the midcard was pretty average/smallish guys as well. Big roided up guys like Bulldog and Warrior were released. Hogan came back smaller and was soon pushed out in favor of a new direction. What ever happened to that story out of Tampa with the steroid doctor with names of "very well known wrestlers?" Perhaps, history will repeat itself...
