PIXIES are to reunite for this year's COACHELLA festival in the US.

The indie rock legends will headline the bash alongside Radiohead and Kraftwerk.

All three bands will headline the first day of the festival, which takes place at Empire Polo Field, Indio, California on May 1/2. Organisers are still finalising contracts with dozens of other bands, including headliners for the festival's second day.

The news is the first official confirmation of the Pixies much-anticipated reunion following their split in 1993. Speculation has been rife for months now that the band would be playing shows in 2004, although no dates beyond Coachella have been confirmed yet, though more shows in the US and UK are strongly rumoured to be taking place later in the year.

What is definite is that the band's former label 4AD are to release a 'best of' album and DVD sometime this year. The DVD will feature eight Pixies videos, a 1988 concert taped at London's Town And Country Club and the documentary 'Gouge', which features interviews with Radiohead's Thom Yorke, David Bowie and Bono.

WOOHOO!

I refuse to believe it until I hear it from Frank and Kim's mouths.

They've "reformed" at least 5 other times, as reported by big names like NME, and it turned out to be false.

I'm still skeptical.

Who are the Pixies?

wow....that is sad

Since he's discussed them on end before, I'm fairly sure that he was being sarcastic. I didn't think that one needed to be explained, but I guess you had to get in a crack to feel good about yourself.

He's not an idiot, even if he did NOT know who the Pixies were, he would've searched on Google or something.

Remember, not everyone goes out of there way to find music, so it's not really shocking in the least that someone hasn't heard of them.

Eh, whatever.

I'm just disappointed that I live all the way in Toronto. There are going to be countless other indie bands that will be playing with The Pixies and Radiohead. I would still like to go, but I don't know anyone else that's willing to go all the way down to California.

I'd imagine they'll play other gigs in the summer. They wouldn't reunite just for a one shot deal.

I'm praying they come to the uk. If they do, I'm there!

Sadly I don't see the Pixies releasing as great of material as before. But just seeing Kim and Black Francis back together is enough for me.

I live in Wisconsin. But if a Smiths reunion/Morrissey solo gig is booked for sunday...I will have to consider a long weekend trip. I really wish it were about a month or 2 later, in the summer when I wont be workin.

...The Pixies and the Velvet Underground (though I don't see that rumor being true) are my two favorite bands of all time.

...Radiohead/The Smiths/The Cure are all Godly...

...When the fuck do tickets go on sale, and where the fuck in California is Indio?

5MoD, if you get the package deal, it's only $140.00 ... so, it's $75.00/day, or 2 days for $140.00. If I wasn't 3,000 miles away, I'd go to this in a heartbeat. Instead, I have to hope that all the bands that I want to see (Cure, AIR, Morrissey, Pixies, etc) do a US tour and come to Boston ... or at least NYC. I can make the drive to New York, but no way can I do another one to California just for a concert.

At the present time, unless something really, really DRASTIC happens, there is no way in hell we will ever see The Smiths ever again. Morrissey will not concede ANYTHING. And I respect him for it. He's not too fond of festivals in general actually, cos he's not sure what everyone there thinks of him, or something like that.
