The same way a beehive can defend itself against a human with a can of bugspray, really: swarm. As proven in Aliens, all the technology cannot stop them, but merely aid in possibly allowing you to survive. Basically, it all boils down to numbers. They have more, the Predators have less. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2004 Numbers sound cool. It surprises me that a Predator would even bother diving into an Alien den in the first place, but a nice visual for sure. Worst part about this movie will most definitely be the inevitable use of loads of CGI. Alien suits and models look so much better than super-smooth CGI beasties, and they force the cinematographer to actually light and compose shots well. I'm sure it will be used, but I think alot of it will just be used on the shots establishing vast Alien dens and large numbers of Aliens. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2004 Wasn't the whole Aliens vs. Predator thing foreshadowed in Predator 2? When Harrigan (Glover) follows the Predator back to his ship and finds his trophy room, there was an Alien skull above the throne if memory serves. I remember seeing it (I can't believe it's 14 years old) and giving a mental "Holy crap!" that they would have two completely different movie franchises from such different spots on the timeline converge. Still, since Predators have apparently been acting as interstellar hunters for who-knows-how-long, I guess they could have found the Aliens long before humans accidentally did. I don't know if the comics went into backstory or how in depth it went, but I'm kinda curious to see how the movies go, as in if this is kind of a "first contact" thing or we join in after the conflict has been established. dutchse.cx 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2004 In the Predator novels (yeah, there's novels), Dutch's brother is trying to find out what happened to Dutch and ends up in the whole Predator mess. I don't recall him ever actually finding out that Dutch is really dead, just that he's missing. Also ... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The Predators end up attacking New York City as a whole, all sorts of ships uncloaking and it's the humans (cops, gangs, whatever civilians feel like joining in) vs. the Predators in a fucking street fight. The Predators only leave when it starts raining, because for them that means hunting season is over. As I remember, the books kicked a good amount of ass. There's also Alien vs. Predator books and regular Alien books. The Earth Hive trilogy was awesome and S.P. Perry's AVP: Prey setup a good stroyline for the conflict between the Predators and Aliens. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2004 Well, looking at IMDB I happened to notice another bit of continuity in the Aliens series as one of the stars of the movie is Lance Henrikssen, whose character's name is....Bishop. Kind of amusing. Hey DDR at the end of Predator, Dutch is last seen being helicoptered away after surviving what looks like a nuclear explosion. The Predators hunt the Aliens as a sort of right of passage into adulthood, as the director has the film set up. For a Predator to become like the ones in Predator 1 and 2, they must first hold their own against aliens, basically needing the head of one to prove their worth. Anderson touches on this, creating one scene where you see a Predator suceeding and another seen were the Predators fail. Apple.com had a clip explaining how he is doing it and basically mapping out the entire plot of the film complete with storyboards. Well, if people can stand up to Predators (not all people, but hey, some have survived) then why shouldn't aliens be able to? I only saw the original Predator (and about half of the sequel) a few weeks ago, and I really liked it, so I'm pretty hyped for this flick. It makes me wanna see all the Alien movies as well (I've only seen the first). EDIT: I just watched that trailer/interview thing. HOLY SHIT. This looks like it could be awesome.
